He didn't really though? I think that's a bit of a false narrative. Jefferson's targets have been very consistent all year. Sam made a couple of his worst throws and decisions in that one game vs the Jags - got an unlucky rebound, not his best placement on another throw, but he targeted TJ just as much in that game. Was he forcing the ball to him too? That rebounded pass to Jets was almost identical to the penultimate play in the Packers game. No one complains about forcing it to Jefferson when it works out.

Darnold throws such a tight spiral all over the field. I think that really helps the receivers. Even when he's a bit off target, the ball flies the same so they can anticipate it.

Not many people can do that stuff in the crunch time when the pressure is on. When you find someone who can you go with it and see what happens, worry about the little things later! Analytics can’t help you determine heart.
None of these great reads, pocket presence and accurate throws could happen without some stellar play on that offensive line. Sam is comfortable and it shows.

O line is great, but he's also making throws that only Mahomes and Allen have the arm strength for. When the pocket breaks down, he also shows that he can move and make throws (like the game winner against Seattle) that only Mahomes, Allen, and maybe Herbert have the arm strength to make. We talk about a comeback story, but he's still young, and making throws that only 2 or 3 other qbs in the league can make...dude looks elite.

The Vikings offense reminds me of the Norv Turner offense with 20+ yard routes and 6-7 step drops. But it works. The Vikings are very aggressive on both offense and defense. Sometimes they forget to run.
The reason Sam is having a great season is…because he is surrounded with a great coaching staff. Sam has a great offense that has tons.of talent. Not to be a dick, but we hadn't beat anyone of significance till we beat GB. We have yet to play PHI, to beat DET, we lost to the Rams, and in my opinion, though I was wrong about the GB game, I think i'm calling this one correctly: this game is the Lions to win or lose, their offense is a force to be reckoned with. Vikings D has to play their game of the season to win this.

I was all caught up in a big job change during the pre-season, so I didn't even know about JJ's injury until the first game of the season. I didn't get to watch the game; I caught the highlights on YT. I was surprised to see Darnold in. That was when I first learned about JJ. I didn't really know who Sam was, so I wasn't disappointed but not enthusiastic either. It has been glorious seeing him have a career season under KOC. I'm so happy for him and everyone in Purple & Gold.

He's got better weapons plain and simple, any decent QB should thrive in that offense, only reason they don't take it all with a good QB is because that division is the toughest in the league this year, imagine Jackson or Joe burrow in that offense?

Why do you not think he was good before? Right place, Right time, right team. It has been said that teams have ruined far more quarterbacks than quarter backs have ruined teams. With the exception of San Fransisco, every team Darnold has been on has failed him. It's not that he wasn't good. He was a very high draft pick. Weather previous teams had bad organizations, bad coaches or bad teammates would take more looking into, but Sam Darnold has always been good.

That first touchdown just has me like wtf are you doing defensively. You play if your going to do cover 3 buzz then why isnt the safety playing the middle 3rd. It seemed as if hes playing a half when he should be more in the middle. Why not run with that guy crossing deep thru the middle. Zone when played wrong is a death sentence
@bignems314 oh for sure definitely a factor however that had nothing to do with the safety on the other side of the formation that was lined up directly across from nailor to start the play. That's the guy that should be middle field
It was tough to tell if that S should've been over the middle or if the CB/S on the other side of the field needed to get more depth. If it's the S that you're talking about that messed up, then he was favoring Addison (which if defenses are doing that now the Vikings are really scary)

If you have a legit 1st round talent why would you pay a 27 year old over the 21 year old and over adding two offensive lineman for 15 million each and a couple corners and a nose guard. The vikings are second in dead cap and will have over 100 million in cap space this offseason but we are low on draft capitol. Pretty sure the team would be better if Darnolds 40 or 50 million was replacing Bradbury and Engram and Risner and not just for next season but for the next 15 years. In 5 years I will still be a vikings fan and is Darnold at 32 going to have a better future outlook than a 26 year old McCarthy? That is hard to believe
@@PotManPotMan His arm yes, not his ability to throw over the middle of the field. McCarthy is one of the best in college history over the middle. Also look up the stats Nick Mullens put up last year when we were full of injuries and we were in the possible playoff hunt until the last few weeks. Our team is much deeper now than last year and if McCarthy can give us more than Mullens gave us we will be better than we are with Sam. Last game Tom Brady said it best, Darnold was 3 throws and once with bad hands in the pocket from blowing out the Packers. Darnold plays risky and that is part of the reason teams come back on us in games. McCarthy has shown no evidence of doing that in his career

It was tough to tell if that S should've been over the middle or if the CB/S on the other side of the field needed to get more depth. If it's the S that you're talking about that messed up, then he was favoring Addison (which if defenses are doing that now the Vikings are really scary)

Chase do you think JJ McCarthy has legit 1st round talent? If you have a legit 1st round talent why would you pay a 27 year old over the 21 year old and over adding two offensive lineman for 15 million each and a couple corners and a nose guard. The vikings are second in dead cap and will have over 100 million in cap space this offseason but we are low on draft capitol. Pretty sure the team would be better if Darnolds 40 or 50 million was replacing Bradbury and Engram and Risner and not just for next season but for the next 15 years. In 5 years I will still be a vikings fan and is Darnold at 32 going to have a better future outlook than a 26 year old McCarthy? That is hard to believe
Coming out of school, Darnold was far more talented.
@@PotManPotMan His arm yes, not his ability to throw over the middle of the field. McCarthy is one of the best in college history over the middle. Also look up the stats Nick Mullens put up last year when we were full of injuries and we were in the possible playoff hunt until the last few weeks. Our team is much deeper now than last year and if McCarthy can give us more than Mullens gave us we will be better than we are with Sam.
Last game Tom Brady said it best, Darnold was 3 throws and once with bad hands in the pocket from blowing out the Packers. Darnold plays risky and that is part of the reason teams come back on us in games. McCarthy has shown no evidence of doing that in his career
Because Mccarthy is 21 like Sam was. Why ruin a guy when he's young? The front office will do what's best for the team.
