      Scuba what gear do you recommend me bring from home? Everyone’s telling me to slide rig off the beach but I’m being a few of my SP MINNOWS and Kast masters.

    i took my 2 piece 8 ft ugly stick to Kauai in '18. just tied the 2 halves with string as a carry-on. No problem. overhead compartment. Not even sure what TSA compliant means

      TSA is strange. I guess it depends if it's an international flight, if you're a gold member, etc.

    Actually, I did that once with a pretty expensive Shimano rod (seashore fishing rod), not connecting it all the way because it was a too tight fit and thinking it would be okay, and the rod cracked right on that area after only a few casts. Not a sound you like to hear, trust me, specially when you're casting 150gr. at a beach with lots of tourists walking around. Not even talking about my own skull possibly being split in half. LOL Then a fisherman - with 40+ years of experience - told me it should ALWAYS slide entirely over that piece but when it's a very tight fit - which sometimes occurs - you should use some petroleum jelly to lubricate it and make it slide in as far as possible, without locking it up. Low and behold, it works perfectly. No locking up and no more cracking (Shimano replaced the cracked section for free, thank goodness). Apparently, brandnew rods sometimes come with that problem, a problem that seems to disappear after a few weeks-months of use by itself (depending on how much you use that rod). No idea why that is.

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  4 роки тому +1

      That happens from time to time. I cut a small section of medium grit sand paper to evenly sand the inner piece. BE CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS. This will solve your problem. Then use water to clean the dust off. Not all production rods will be perfect. Greasing it will create problems.

    • @TheOpelkoenjas
      @TheOpelkoenjas 4 роки тому

      @@ScubaChris I actually never had problems with greasing it. Been using that greasing trick for years now. But when taking it apart I always make sure to thoroughly remove the grease before putting everything away, so that no sand or dirt/dust can get stuck into it. And before putting it together again and applying a tiny bit of new grease - it really doesn't need much - I wipe it down again, just to make sure there's no abnormal abrasion happening.

    Do they have 8 inch round kind..sorry thought that was rod cases...

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  2 роки тому

      They don't get that big as it would be too massive for a "hand carried" cabin piece. Plus it'll be too long. Walmart has those black expanding plastic rod cases.

    The Okuma Nomad's are great, well built rods. BUT, they're Way! To stiff for the designation. Okuma has lost all sensitivity in the tips. The ML 7' spinning rods are closer to a MH in all other major brands.

    • @ScubaChris
      @ScubaChris  5 років тому

      The surf rods are, because they're surf rods. The SST's travel rods maybe more of what you'e looking for? It helps finding a store that has them. Physical inspection is important.

    • @RH-qk5lt
      @RH-qk5lt 5 років тому +2

      @@ScubaChris No. ALL Okuma Nomads/ Nomad Express are way to heavy powered. I specifically said spinning rods. I don't own any Okuma surf rods so I can't compare those. Almost every review you read echos my opinion about the Okuma Nomad Express rods. There's not another manufacturer that is as heavy as Okuma. So when you're not complying with what little manufacturer standards we have in rods, Okuma is wrong and they should change this. They're great, well built rods but they're to heavy. As far as "physical inspection", that would be fantastic! But some of us live in areas that makes that impossible since no one carries a large (if any) selection of travel rods.

      @@RH-qk5lt The SST Travel Rods are for spinners. And assembled aren't any different from the regular 2pc SST light spin-casting rods. I already mentioned this. I've seen and handled over a dz of them at the expo/trade shows. 3-4pc construction. I never requested them because i have regular 2pc SST rods. If i travel i take my beefier Nomads (as you pointed out). I gave you the correct answer to you question as i've personally handled them.

      @@ScubaChris The Okuma Nomad Express is also a spinning rod and is the only rod I commented on. And they're way to darn heavy for the rating! Which is exactly what I said in my original post. I never mentioned the SST's. But since you brought them up now, if someone is looking for a 4 piece travel spinning rod for inshore fishing, the Fenwick HMG is slightly a better choice due to there superior reel seat, better tip sensitivity , you get a 2 tips with the HMG and I personally like a cork grip. Which you can't get in a 7' medium action SST. And lastly, I never asked a question? I made a truthful comment about the Nomad Express, One that's not sponsored by Okuma. In case someone watching your videos is considering buying a Nomad Express. So I'm not sure what answer you gave me?
