I am a local and big fan of the Bucs. I do like the Glazers but they are some greedy owners. I guess they all are. They have screwed USF Football so bad on ticket sales, parking and concessions. Hillsborough County paid for this stadium and the Bucs get all the revenue. Then we paid to build their practice facility. Pretty sure it will be the same the next time. TB Rays deal is even worse for St. Pete. These commissioners need to learn how to negotiate.

They should move the Rays to Bradenton. They could buy the old DeSoto Mall for a dollar, and transform that entire area from a homeless camp to a really cool entertainment district.
Going to a Ray's game from here is a major pain, requiring a trip over the skyway and then trying to park. If you have bad weather (see hurricane season, also known as baseball season) you stand a good chance that they close the Sunshine Skyway which means that you get home by going over to Tampa and then running down the interstate 75.
Bull. Bad idea for St. Pete, and nobody is going to come there.

Tampa situation is one-fold. You have an ownership that's strangely pretty much satisfied with their current stadium situation. The NFL likes Tampa Bay with all of its amenities - attractions, beaches, hotels. As mentioned by Ginger, it hosted all of the major football sporting events in the last ten years. It's not a small market like Jacksonville, more of a growing medium size market near another growing medium size market - Orlando. Tampa Bay media market is actually 3 times the size of Jacksonville. I guess their local revenue coming in is okay with the NFL. The fans dont seem to care about getting baked in the September and October Sun.

This stadium as it is, is fine for a Superbowl. It's September and October when the Sun is blazing, and the field turns into a frying pan where the stadium needs rethinking. Shade would be nice, but we need to maintain the natural turf.

I would definitely like to see the stadium preserved with the right renovations if possible. If it's a massive project like Jacksonville I wonder where they could relocate for a year. I'm thinking it could be between the Florida Gators stadium and Orlando's Camping World Stadium, home of the Florida Citrus Bowl. If it were to occur simultaneously with the Jaguars project it would be best to not share the same stadium with their league rivals unless an arrangement were to be made like the Giants and Jets in New Jersey or the Chargers and Rams in LA. If there's no way around it then Orlando would be better since it's mostly vacant apart from a handful of events throughout the year.

The major issue with trying to add a full cover for the stadium is that Ray Jay sits snuggly between Dale Mabry and Himes. There is not a lot of space to build out. You forget since it's been so long, but Ray Jay looked HUGE when you were sitting in Tampa Stadium the year before it opened. I'm sure it can be doneb but it will take a great architect. 1. No matter what the pirate ship stays
    2. If they want to do anything with the pirate ship they can make it bigger with bigger cannons, either way the pirate ship stays
    3. An extendable/retractable roof is pretty much the only way to go unless you want to build a completely new stadium in a completely new location and that would cost BILLIONS. That would mean a massive tax increase to pay for that shiny new stadium, I just don't see it, we are not talking about "The Big Sombrero" of the Hugh Culverhouse days (the dark days as it were).
Yes it can be miserable in the August to October months, but after that its not bad at all and you have to fight the conditions of that day just like many NFL players back in the day had to, its classic in that sense.

It just kills me how this guy gives his opinions, like he is an engineer. For example, "I don't think you could add overhangs to the upper deck, I think it would look really cheap and poorly done." And he talks about certain designs being "really simplistic and very expensive." I mean, how many stadiums has this guy renovated?
Ok, I can give an OPINION also, but this is from a REAL fan from the beginning. To me, it's much more important to renovate to continue attracting top talent to want to play here and stay here. Big events are nice, but building a dynasty is on a completely different level. I believe we are in a really good place right now. Many want to talk bad about the Glazer brothers, but Darcy is actually running the show and doing an AMAZING job. Jason Licht has become the top GM in the league. So lets give the top brass whatever they need to keep great players wanting to play here.
We don't need new seats, the ones we have are just fine for a 3 hr football game. Lets use seat money on climate control. But however they accomplish that, it needs to support natural turf! That is a absolute MUST! We have to keep it the best playing surface in the world! Players love it! I also believe that players should have their own small room behind their locker that they can access 24-7. If they want to show up saturday night and stay till game time or after. It's their own personal quiet space for them to study, rest and prep for games.
Each player should also have their own "family sky box." It doesn't have to be big, just a space to call their own on game day. I think renovations should be more geared toward attracting players than making revenue. Put a consistently great product on the field and the revenue will come with it!

After seeing the home team just win the super bowl on its home field ,do we even want another super bowl here when odds are someone else may win it? That felt like a Mic drop moment where you it's like , we good! Would make no decisions centered around more super bowls here

I must be old the original stadium was only 3 years old when I was born. Seen lots of concerts and games there. The old sombrero was 31 years old when it finally closed and Raymond James is only 26 years old. There talking super bowls well you can just forget about most of the stadiums when it comes to that no roof and snow and ice plus 20 below. That doesn’t leave the nfl with as many options for super bowls. Besides it’s Florida it’s hot all year round. I would rather be hot then freezing my a*s off

You mentioned Jacksonville. They're renovations of their stadium is absurd . Did you realize that the base of their stadium is the old Gator Bowl; built in 1948?
Ray Jay's Pirate Ship is part of what is described as an "Old Florida Fishing Village" , like Cortez, Florida.
They should build a new place. Ray Jay is virtually inaccessible on game day for the average fan. It's out past the airport and also has totally shitty parking.
Renovations are like putting lipstick on a pig. The place just sucks and is just not a good place to watch football.
This is coming from a guy who has season tickets to the Eagles at VETERAN'S STADIUM, section 737, Row 11, seats 13 & 14.
    Ciao

I like that Atlanta stadium roof option they didn’t utilize. Hire the Architects to modify it for RJD.
Cost of construction in Atlanta is roughly 30% more than Tampa, so about 1 billion for that sliding pavilion roof from the Atlanta rendering you showed.

This is all false and not even on the agenda for the Tampa Bay area. There's only 254 million in the budget for the region, and right now the only plans that are being considered is the building on the new Rays stadium or the renewal of the beaches. That's means that the 20 percent it takes to start construction on the stadium is too much for the budget with the beach clean up in addition. Idk who's telling you this nonsense, but a new stadium is not going to happen for a very, very, very long time. FACTS
