Just did this hike yesterday with my family and it was beautiful! I am definitely not what anyone would consider "physically fit" but I took my time on the way back up, pausing a bit every few switchbacks to catch my breath. Just be realistic and tackle it a section at a time and you'll do fine; it was a very rewarding initiating GC hike for a novice unfit guy like me to breach the rim and get a taste of the canyon. It took me ~20 minutes to hike down to Ooh Ahh point, and about an hour to get back up. On the way up we were passed by a horse and mule train taking supplies down. It was impressive to watch these horses, with riders, walking down the stony path.

Amazing views on that trail. I was lucky to have the chance to hike this one while working near the GC last year. Probably my favorite hike in the area. Especially if you are there at sunrise or sunset. Thanks for the great tour, and nice job filming. Cheers! 😍😊🥰

It's also worth mentioning to make sure to fill your water bladders at the tap just before the trailhead, since the trail has no water until you get to phantom ranch.

Your videos are awesome. I am wondering if you have other Arizona hikes or hikes you might suggest in warm climates in November

@@Hikingguy Awesome! Looks like my wife and I might opt for the San Diego area. She likes seals and the ocean. I will look through your videos and see what I can find for stellar hikes.

Really appreciate all the info you are providing here and on your website. Will be doing this exact hike to Phantom Ranch the first week of April 2020.
Just wondering if you have done this hike in April and what the conditions are like then...ie hot, cold, snow??

Nice, you'll love it. I did a R2R this past May (and doing one next May too) so have a decent idea of April. It should be cool / cold at the rim, then nice and temperate at Phantom Ranch, prob in the 60s-70s. I've also had snowstorms in May on the South Rim, so just be prepared for anything.

How early did you start in the morning? I want to catch the sunrise up here and will be going in early November.

Find out sunrise for the day you are hiking it and take the shuttle that gets there before. Give yourself 30 mins or so to get there.
