Great video! I'm 66, my first hike in the Grand Canyon I went rim2rim, down the South Kaibab and up the North Kaibab. This was 2.5 months ago. The last 5miles were very tough, but I'm so glad I gave it a go :).
Go for it! I did it in November; super hard but obviously doable. I did a two-part podcast of the whole experience; you can find it at The Grand Canyon Hiker Dude Show wherever you get podcasts if you’re interested. Let me know if I can help in any way. 👊😊
Around every corner or switchback is a different view. Ooh Ah Point was very windy when we hiked a few years ago. If you get there really early, the buses are empty. It actually be extremely hot. We went down in the middle of June 2019.
I really enjoyed this video. Your idea about taking a taxi was really good. I am planning on going to Skeleton Point and back in April, your idea about going three more switchbacks to a fantastic view was a good one and I will definitely consider doing that. It was a shame that it was overcast when you were at that viewpoint because the colours were muted.
Brian, great video! I worked with your brother and you at TPC back in the day and have bumped into you on Black Mtn a time or two. Your television experience really shows. Thanks for putting this series of videos together, I am getting curious about R2R2R so that’s how I came across your videos. Take care!
Thanks, Ben! Be sure to check out The Grand Canyon Hiker Dude Show podcast on Apple or Spotify; tons of stuff on R2R2R. You live in AZ, so do it in November! Trust me on that one. Always here to help if you need anything. 👊
After all the videos on the hikes in Grand canyon, this hike definitely looks the best. I'm planning to go hike down to PR then up Bright Angel. Hopefully by the end of the month.
Awesome! It is incredible. If you don't know, Bright Angel is closed until 4/15/24 for the waterline project, so down and up SK is the only option until then.
Thanks for the amazing guide!! Can’t wait to be hiking out there! You didn’t encounter any mountain lions coyotes rattlesnakes or any danger while hiking the canyon in general?
Thank you! I’ve encountered one rattler on Tonto, but it wanted less to do with me than I did it. You do hear about mountain lions from time to time, but more in the remote areas rather than the main trails. The corridor trails are generally safe; they are heavily traveled and you’re rarely alone for long. It’s just the coolest place imaginable to hike. Hope you get there soon!
I would say two liters in the cooler months, and I personally stay off SK in the warmer months (unless I'm hiking out in the dark) because it's too dangerous with the exposure and no water availability. Bright Angel offers those safety nets that SK doesn't.
Planning on doing NK to SK, Oct 23. Unfortunately Bright Angel closes Oct 21 for construction. I keep thinking I should go South to North instead of North to South. Any thoughts?
Finally great informing video to the black bridge thanks

That’s an amazing first hike, Rick. You jumped right in! Congrats on your incredible accomplishment. Bet you’re already looking forward to next time…
@@GrandCanyonHikerDude Absolutely! Definitely considering r2r2r, gotta try it before I get old :).

Best hiking is down South Kaibab and up Bright Angel. Bright Angel has watering stations.
thanks for your video. Great footage and commentary.
Really amazing video. Stunning views and scenery, but I loved your narration, enthusiasm, positivity and charisma. Fantastic watch
Thanks so much for the incredibly kind comment! :)

So true, SK will make you lol
Cool video. How much water is recommend to hike up South Kaibab?

@@GrandCanyonHikerDudethanks for the info. My understanding is only SK is available right now.

Hey man, are you from around there?
Phoenix area.
@@GrandCanyonHikerDude I’ll be there hiking tomorrow morning if you want to get a hike in and some content
Can't you just walk the 4 miles from the bright angel trail head to the south Kaibab trail head?
Absolutely! Totally a personal thing. Lots of folks do that to make a true loop.
@@GrandCanyonHikerDude cool. It just makes since. And after 51 miles , what's another 4?
