This was an extremely high quality production with impeccable lighting and the camera operators attention to centering on the subject was second to none. You sir are the next Martin Scorsese.
I appreciate the humor! I threw it together when I guy I game with needed the help and explaining it over the phone didn't work. Thanks for the comment!

@@Rapidfire-bv7lk Mate 40k people have seen this and there arent many videos available about this, you could re-do it for the views if not for the sake of making it easier to see etc.
@@Rapidfire-bv7lk ya your vid helped me out I couldn't figure it out I got it because of your vid
This took 49 grams off my controller, thank you for the raw content, this works perfectly as of 1/24/2022. Just to be safe I covered the ends of the wires in electrical tape. Warning to the people who are going to try this, be careful with the tabs by the auxiliary port between the joy sticks, I snapped one of them off unintentionally and didnt realize until I noticed a small gap. Take your time, and be gentle.
I opted to completely remove the wires off of the motherboard. I didn't experience any problems doing so.
I just succeeded at this job thanks to this video and the iFixit guide (easier to see, but not detailed enough on its own). Here's my big hint: That tape is SHOCKINGLY strong and won't let the motors go with all my strength pushing and pulling. I wedged a thin metal piece between the motor and the plastic where you can see the tape residue, then slid across to break the seal. Then they just fell out.
In the process of pulling at the thing for an hour I managed to accidentally pull out just about every other part and ribbon cable in the entire thing, but when I got it all back together it actually still worked! Hallelujah! And it's SO light now I love it. P.S. I'm even doing this on an identical gold controller :)
Oh, I also cut the wires right past the solder on the board instead, so I don't have loose cables flopping around inside. If I were trying to replace them I'd obviously desolder it instead, but like this video I'm takin' em out never to return, so no need.
Thanks a lot! Just did this to my PS4 and Xbox controller. My PS4 controller went from 218 grams --> 168 grams. A 29.8% weight reduction for something I never use! Love it. So lightweight now and less hand / wrist fatigue over long sessions. I did this with my Xbox One controller also and for the record it went from 288 grams --> 234 grams (w/ 2x rechargeable AA batteries)
My controller would not stop vibrating and i tried every possible route with it so this was my last resort and you sir are amazing for the quick tutorial Cut them damn packs off and no more issues. cheers!
Dealing with it right now
Dealing with that right now.
@@G_N_A_N Did it work?
@@G_N_A_N Glad to hear it! and good luck getting one i just got a ps5 controller and i like it, but i know with the way i play it wont be long before it starts drifting lol.
Not the greatest lighting by any means but was genuinely very helpful to make me realize I was being dumb. I recently ordered a new frame for my JDS-011 dualshock 4 controller because I snapped one of the supports for the L1 button while taking it apart and glue wasn't doing me too much help, so I was scared swapping everything into the new frame was gonna be a pain, and clearly it looks like it's gonna be easier than I thought.
As a side note I honestly don't think fantastic lighting would be all that necessary to communicate the point but it is still funny to poke fun at. Thank you so much for the video!
I ordered a AIM controller with the rumbles removed from factory. I actually find the controller to be quite cheap feeling with the weight taken out. I didn't think it would make much of a difference but it really is like 50% lighter than my other controller. I'm debating putting them back in and leaving them off.
It's amazing how much lighter they are without the rumble packs. Makes it feel like it's barely in your hand. It took a bit for my guys to get used to the weight difference so I totally understand. For a casual player it might not be necessary to do this. For gamers who play a lot it helps with hand fatigue enabling them to play longer with fewer breaks etc. Yes you can put them back in and just not hooked up. If your old rumbles don't have the 3M double-sided tape it can be purchased for a couple of bucks from most stores. Have fun and thanks for watching!
this is actually helpful video but you think you can made it again with more light? i think this is a good thing. thank you!
Thank you do much i wasnt sure if i could remove the rumbles until i saw this vid. I had a controller with stick drift(black) and one with out it(red). The red had the R2 and R1 side broken so i couldn't press on it. The black just a lottery picker when scrolling through menus. But than i had the idea of taking out the red sticks and adding to the black controller since its frame was in good shape. I follow your steps until the part where you removed the rumble instead of just putting it back together. I just took the sticks and added to the black frame it was the same thing but I just merge dome parts together. I was so happy that i had a new controller for Christmas and didnt have to buy a new one.
Still helping 2years later man thanks!
Who needs a flat prying tool when you've got long finger nails like Tarzan here!
All in all, good video. Thanks!
For anyone attempting this the hardest part by far is separating the two case pieces, damn things felt like they were welded together.
Damn ur right 🤣 feel like they are gonna break like fucking made if steel?
@@uttermostvids631 if you take it apart enough times the tabs or clips will eventually break like mine did, but the screws are the only things needed to keep everything together.
@@astoraan6071 yes lmao kinda sad that the engineering to hold this together is so good
@July ye it’s possible. I’ve taken mine apart more than 10 times now and the only thing that you risk breaking is the tabs. But they don’t serve any purpose because the screws alone can hold the controller together. On the newer controllers the tabs aren’t even used for anything they are just a flat piece of plastic. Just be sure not to pull so hard that you end up with the two pieces flying off because you’ll rip the ribon cable. Hold the controller between your knees when you pry it open just to be safe. It’ll sound like you broke something but you won’t.
The rumble packs feels like it’s welded and not stuck with double sided tape
That Water spot makes me nervous. I'm glad you didn't short circuit your board.
Depending on how new the controller is will depend on how important it is. I've removed the plastic housing on older controllers without an issue. Infact it made it easier to put back together. However if you have a newer controller the plastic is a little more important. On newer models the plastic housing holding the rumbler helps keep the board and buttons secure. I personally would put it together and see if it rattles inside by normal movement. If not you should be good! If it does than it might be possible to super glue the rumble housing back in place. It won't be perfect but might work. It's cheaper than having it plastic welded or replacing it. Hope this helps and have fun gaming!!
Ive did everything but the rumbles didnt come out it is very hard and its glued really good
Oh my lord, wish i coul hire you to come to Norway and do mine 😅
Rappin_For_Legends _ Yeah and a lot of people are really simple also...just like this person who want to hire someone to do something that my 12 year old daughter is capable of doing
I apologise for not being very good at this stuff, i hope you will forgive me one day. Enjoy you're evening.
Sorry!
will the controller work with out them ???
Very helpful...thanks.
I swear this 3m tape is stronger than super glue 😅
Damn that part with the touchpad got me stressed. Thank you so much
Bruh that was so easy
The touch pad can be a real pain as the ribbon isn't easy to thread through it. But doing so is an accomplishment in itself! Lol
Rapidfire 1976 damn can’t believe that was 1 month ago
Now i use the rumbles whit a ramdom battery that is pretty funny
What does the rumble do?
Can u pls help me?
@@Freeza97 vibrations
I was raging on a game and I smashed my controller and the motor came off the thing that is holding it in place
You're not the first bud. Good thing is it's only a small piece of 3M double-sided tape that holds it in place! Lol
Rapidfire 1976 yea tru
I smashed the controller and the whole black plastic thing came off
At least you still have a controller, smashed mine to bits... its in the trash now :(
Demonic Dismay do u have another one?
VIdeo is too dark...
When I plug the battery in the area with all the microchips by the power plug in the circuit board gets really really hot. When I press the home button the light does not turn on. Any help please?
You’re plugging the battery in the the wrong way. You have the polarity reversed. That’s why the boards getting hot and the lights won’t come on. There’s voltage running to the board but it won’t properly power things because of the reversed polarity. You possible just fucking destroyed your controller. Especially if you left it plugged in for any length of time.
Get a toothpick and tape and tape it to the ribbon and feed it through that whole to get the ribbon through hole easy
The light on the controller comes on for a split second when plugged in then shuts off.
The light will not come on when not it's not plugged in
My dumbass read the comments of how peoples controllers basically got fried and i decided to try this. I clipped them and my controller still works. I've dissasembled a dualshock 4 a total of 2 times and succesfully clipped them. They should watch a tutorial on dissasembling a ds4 before even trying the simplest of mods such as this
Got them out
welp , now i can't even turn on my controller .. guess i messed up at some point .
Have u fixed it mine is doing the same
@@Cisco.v3 i fixed mine by pressing the reset pad button (if you look on the back of the controller is the controller it's the top right hole where you can stick a pin inside to push on plastic that pushes on a green surface button pad) ,, it was impossible because inside inside plastic was bent while i tried prying the controller open. (as it is bent i can't just close up the controller then put a pin in to reset ,,, so i just ripped off the small plastic stub ,,, i will forever need to open up the controller if i want to reset it, but at least it doesn't become not functional after i reset it (while open) )
Your situation could be different tho.
What if one of the cabke breaks from the rumble parts?? please answer me
Bruh good vid and shit but I’ll just cut them off 😂
What happens if the whole plastic thing holding the rumbler comes off with the rumbler
Thats what happened to me. Thats why I looked this up 😂
Cant you just cut the wires off?
"as you can see.." No. We can't see. Because you are doing this in the f-ing dark & the auto focus on your flip phone is on & set to "Most Annoying Focus".
Then look for something better dickhead

@Rapidfire 1976
I notice one rumble has larger/heavier motors than the other. What If I just wanted to remove the bigger one? Would I still get a little rumble?
I'm curious on the differences in regards to rumble when removing either just the small one, or just the big one.
Curious, if rather than disconnect that ribbon cable that was hard, you just ciut the wires to the rumble packs and leave them in?
I did this and now my controller won't turn on please help
Did u reconnect the battery cable and the little dark tan ribbon cable and the long white one if u did unplug them again and blown into the lil plug outlet and plug the connectors back
If u dont plug in the long white cable and the battery one im sure it wont work but i dont know if the lil tan one matters thats for the touch pad
How do reinstall or reweld the black and red cables into the pins ? i open this controler to swap certain part to my older controler but notice the red and black cables where removed ?
fucking legend.
I did this and now my controller has insane stick drift that points upwards. How do I fix it?
My idiot friend thinks if you take out the rumbles on a controller it will fall apart
tried this... now my controller wont turn on
Mine too
Same here
this video is why we need the dislike count back. Damn you, youtube
can I just cut the wire?
Yes you can cut the wire to make it quicker.
@@Rapidfire-bv7lk so you cut tge wire and it still works fine?
What does removing the rumble pack do?
No vibration and makes the controller lighter
It gives you aimbot and wall hacks.
AND also extend the battery life
How else cheek the comments to see the review
I actually want to make mine rumble more not take them out. Do you know if it's possible to make them vibrate more by adding some more weight to them to imbalance them some more or something like that?
I'm curious to why you would want more rumble?
@@jeremiahbourne4449 Hey mate, it's because I was playing PGA 2K21 on master settings and when you're putting it vibrates when you've pulled the putter to the right strength but it only vibrates a tiny bit for like a split second on hard settings and the way I was holding the controller it was hard to pick up so wanted it to vibrate a bit stronger. But yeah, for most games it vibrates plenty hard enough.
@@28russ oh right! Did you ever figure it out?
@@jeremiahbourne4449 Nah mate, never did. Just had to try and get used to it. So I just suck at putting on hard mode lol.
@@28russ I'm looking it up to see if it's possible. People on reddit seem to gravitate to one reason someone would want more vibration. They really need to get there mind out of the gutter haha
I do this same, but acciendtally, cause the analog drift
Doing this shouldn’t affect your sticks, maybe they are just dirty try taking it apart and cleaning the sensors.
Does this make it lighter?
is it possible to remove these from the ps5 controller?
How can I re attach the rumble wires ?
Ssgss-Spidey the wires can be reattached with a solder gun. The task is relatively easy depending on skill and proper tools. If the wire is cut in half than you would either have to solder them together or use a wire crimp. Either way it is reversible and at minimal to no cost. Thanks for watching!!!
Why do u polish ur nails?
Video is way to dark to see what you are doing...
i did this and realised my share button was gone
Why the hell did you destroy good ps4 controller the point is to fix things not to damage them.
There are a lot of people that play long hours and removing the rumble packs make a huge difference in weight and reduces hand fatigue. It's not for everyone which is totally fine. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@@Rapidfire-bv7lk hand fatigue? Holding a controller? What kind of pansy
TheBanjoShow yes holding the same object for long periods of time and ya know
Hey bro, I accidentally pulled the black cable of the right motor off the motherboard, how do I stick it to the controller?
Dale Lio unless you are wanting to reattach the rumble pack you should be fine.
Rapidfire 1976 My controller doesn’t vibrates anymore :( but thanks for answering :)
Dale Lio the reason it doesn't vibrate anymore is because you removed the rumble packs from it which makes the controller lighter and reduces hand fatigue while playing. Most competitive players don't use rumble packs or turn the option off as it affects the game play.
Rapidfire 1976 I just accidentally removed the black cable :(
I think he means that he accidentally ripped the black wire and he wants to put it back in. If thats the case you should solder the wire back to the motherboard with a soldering iron. Remove the ripped part first and reatach it. If you have any questions please look up for a tutorial. Ifixit has one on how to replace the rumble motors.
Why remove it ...
Why would anyone want to remove the vibration motors? They can be deactivated via settings wtf
For light weight
usynlig37 i am going to modify my controller i need to put switches and sruff there the motos take too much space
LoL.. my controllervibrates nonstop
AgentSabry are u sure its your controller... jk
@@AgentSabryFN might be Parkinson's disease.
Mine vibrates non stop too. Got a massive static electrical shock one day and it initiated the rumble pack. It hasn't stopped since. I just cut the wires. Problem solved.
they don't come out
They aren't the easiest to remove and I understand not wanting to push hard and risk breaking something. Try a screwdriver or something thin to pry it apart. That 3m double sided tape can be a real pain at times. Hope this helps!
@@Rapidfire-bv7lk Thanks! Now i removed them. But im unable to reassemble my controller because i'm not good at these things 😁

you do realize that controller vibration can be disabled on the system settings menu rite this is completely unnecessary
Brad Paine Jr. The point of this video is to make your controller lighter to reduce hand fatigue from long hours of gaming. Yes you can disable the vibration in settings and I said that as well. Sorry you missed the point of the video.
