I DON'T usually post anywhere......but........(keep in mind I am 70 yrs young)........when my grandfather needed to get rid of a stump he would dig a few holes under it filled them with corn then turned his pigs out to it. By the next day the tree stump would be out of the ground, Thank you for bringing back that memory!!
Ben, I come from three generations of loggers and own two farm tractors that I've used to clear land, build roads, and yard logs. I'm 70 years old and lived this long partly due to good teaching of proper use of a tractor. Tractor accidents are the leading cause of farm fatalities mostly from rearing up and rolling over backwards. Please accept this with my humblest good intentions. Whenever pulling with a chain, there is an attachment point on the belly of every tractor I've known. It's where you attach a draw bar. If your pulling point is near or higher than the axel of your drive wheels the wheels can continue driving while the chain holds the tractor, ending with a flip over. Without a ROPS the tractor can crush the operator. If you must use a higher attachment point you can at least run the chain down and under your box blade but you run the risk of too much stress on the box. Flip over accidents happen extremely fast and many wrongly thought they could stop at the first sign. Be careful. Thanks for your channel. I never miss an episode.
You are so right lost my grandaddy just exactly like you explained. People are so unaware of how dangerous they can be. Please be careful. We love the hollers too much.
One other safety issue I would include is to have all he boys and buggy as well, is to make sure they are wearing sturdy shoes when using an ax or hatchet on jobs like this. I'm all for going barefoot as much as possible.
I Iike her new 'do! Thanks Meg! And great job on the tree removal guys! Did you ever use your Sawzall at all? Also the Carne Assada looked bussin'!! Great music too, Meg!
I have to say this family impresses the begeebers outta me! I am very excited to see all that 2024 has to offer. One of my most favoratist homestead families!
I agree…if I’m watching something else and notification comes up for Hollar Homestead, I quit watching whatever it is I’m watching and click on the notification!!!
Mr Hollar you have an army of strong young men there. What a wonderful opportunity for your son's to work with you in building an addition and gaining skills that all young adults should learn. My father was a building contactor, zoning laws do change but the skills do not and are priceless. The thought process is so valuable as you work backwards from what you want your finished project to look like. Much respect to you Ben for taking time to teach, your legacy is sitting at your kitchen table.
Totally agree..they are who they are with no apologies and we as viewers are so blessed to share a little space and time in their world…they are the real deal..and I love absolutely love and respect them! Blessings🙏🏻🫶🏻
Buggy was absolutely adorable in her little dress and pigtails. I like her in pigtails. Here’s a thought, worst case scenario, if you need to what about just cutting the trunk down as far as you can and then just let it burn down as far as it will and then just cover it up good once it’s below ground level. I’m sure you can keep it burning down low enough you don’t have to worry about it getting close to the house since it’s down in a hole. Plus you can just keep a hose close by. One man taught me a trick to drill a bunch of holes in the top of the trunk and then pour vegetable oil into every hole and let it soak it up and to do this everyday for a few days and by then it’s soaked up enough of oil it will keep it burning until it’s completely burned down. You may not want to do this to this trunk since this is a timely manner and may take a good few days to finally totally burn down but if you ever have any others in the yard to do it might be a good idea.;
You guys should try to make some mushroom totems from those smaller trees you felled. Once a oyster mushroom sets up into the wood, you'll have mushrooms for years.
Buggy your dress and hair were so pretty. Congrats on the new baby coming. So exciting, very happy for you. You family is so real. Your family works together, cooks together, eat together, plays and prays together. Thats the way it use to be in the world. So blessed. Admired by so many. Thank You for sharing your life with us.
I really enjoy watching your family. You work together, laugh together, eat together and I'm sure your worship together! You guys are raising those babies of your right. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
I am so impresseded by how little tiny Buggy is always in there working hard rather it's helping mommy inside cooking or outside helping daddy do whatever he is working on! She is a beautiful little girl and has more work standards that a lot of men! God bless you all, in my prayers daily🙏❤️🙏
Ben, save your back and use your neighbors backhoe. In half an hour your stumps would be out of your way. No roots to worry about or get in the way for your piers for the addition.. Put your blood , sweat and tears into the interior of the addition. Don't waste your energy on getting the stumps out of your way. Yes a camp chef stove is great. But the homemade wok is awesome.
Wholeheartedly agree! Ben's plan is totally inadequate IMO. Could use another room for office/editing/homeschooling and/or additional storage. Sometimes good enough IS NOT good enough. I believe this is one of those times.
dude, don't even try to dig those stumps out! get that backhoe. also, with a large family like yours, you can never have enough space! good luck and God bless!
That Buggy is a glorious beam of joy and light in your family. What a blessing! Your sons are equally impressive and gifted young men excelling under the leadership and tutelage of Godly parents who choose to prioritize family. What a concept, huh? LOL Believer or not, Godly principals work ... always. Carry on folks. You do it so right! ❤❤
Those tree stumps look so innocent... but they sure can prove to be so very challenging... Mother Nature sure knows what she is doing when she goes deep... To support her trees, which give us so much precious oxygen. And Thank You for the cameo of Millie, she really loves her family... And so do the rest of us... that includes the little one on the way in..!
I can sympathize with yall on digging out a stump by hand. It is definitely a job with a hand rake, hand shovel, iron digger, and small battery operated chain saw! It took a couple days! It was a huge loctus tree that fell on our house. Luckily it only tore up the rafters and didn’t puncture the ceiling! God is GREAT!❤
I always enjoy your channel and it is because it is so good watching a family work together. Buggy look so beautiful in her dress. Keep up your entertaining channel
Morning Beautiful Family from up on the mountain in Sparta, NC where we have a dusting of snow and maybe some snow showers today! Wow, taking those trees out really opened up that area!! Nothing like having a few children to help😊. Buggy is so cute!! The tacos look great...Buggy says drink some water😊.
We have had the camp chef for years. We use it for canning. Works great, house doesn't heat up and the Hubby and I sit and talk while waiting on the pressure canner.
Princess Buggy and the Stump Snatchers! My favorite sandwich lately is to toast some sourdough slices, or buns, mayo, mustard on top, then spread rillettes on the bottom, add some sliced ham and a couple of dill pickle slices, and provolone cheese. My version of a Cuban sandwich. 😁
So glad y’all are starting on the addition. Moving in great direction for Buggy, bigger pantry and new can be with mom and dad and also would be nice for another girl for buggy to have a girl playmate in the future. ❤❤

What an exciting time with the new baby and new extension. This time though you have all those strong Sons to help. This is going to be a great skill learning experience for them. Meg is going to be so happy with her extra pantry space and Buggie will love having her own room.

I was feelin for you while you were working on that stump. That is Hard work! I love that the whole family gathered during the process, makes working hard like that a little more fun.
The first time you dig out a stump your respect for the wind goes way up when you realize just how much it takes to pull a tree out by the roots. Buggy looked so adorable in her girly girl dress! If you ever need a side gig, making those tractor disc grills would certainly be a good venture! I would definitely buy one.
That was a lot of chopping & digging! Way to get it done, guys! The addition will be worth it. Thanks for sharing & showing your creative cooking. Blessings to all!
Ben, you like the pressure of a new addition to the family! I started watching when the you were working to get the house done before Buggy’s birth ! We know you’ll get it done!
So nice to see all the boys helping and yes, even Buggy too. Glad you have such able boys who chip in the hard work. Very exciting.....can't wait to see more! Dinner prepared by Ben looks awesome. Great family ❤
Outside entrance to the laundry room with a utility sink will help with keeping the mud and dirt down in the home. I love watching your progress. I’m not far from you, near Stuart, Virginia.
A simple solution to pulling the stump is to use the stump as it's own fulcrum and the tractor and chain as a lever. I've been doing it for over 6 decades and it works wonderfully.
It's wonderful watching you and seeing all you've accomplished since buying the property. It's also fun you haven't changed your music choices as sometimes I hear a piece of music and remember it as you were driving off pulling the trailer! How far you've come!
That was some hard work! Nice to have your own crew when they are needed. And, the boys are learning a ton about removing trees, stumps, and all of the rest. I’ve been following y’all since you were traveling around the country. You’ve come a long way in more ways than one.
Buggy's hair style is great!!! Stay funky buggy!! And that was a beautiful dress! Reminded me of a cloggers dress. That stump was hard work and y'all worked so hard for it to be holding on so good. I hope you have a great day and congratulations on the baby!!
Waiting for your vids each week I go back and watch the vids I need to see about growing certain things or whatever. I spent the last week rewatching your entire trip to find your home in NC. To see your journey mentally, emotionally and physically is just amazing!!! Cant wait for the new home addition as well as the new baby. I’m telling you that I am team girl. It took you landing in NC to get a girl and now you are rooted…. So its a girl!!! 💕
That was/is a big task, but you will win. What a full day Buggie had, Helping pulling sticks, having a princess make over then back out helping the boys! 💕💕🌻🌻
That tree removal was really really a lot of work!!! Watching y’all work on that exhausted me😵💫😵💫😵💫!!!! There was little Buggy pulling a big branch across the ground all by herself💜! She looked adorable in that very pretty dress🥰🥰! I live in Cali and my mouth was watering during that whole cooking process! Great video y’all…love how you all pitch in to get the job done🤗🤗!
Love carne asada tacos! We like to eat them just like you! Buggy looked so adorable in her cute little dress! Great team work with the stump! Hope you can get them out!
Sir Ben, you are a bit of a tree afficiando. - Do plan for some tree or big shrub replacements on that hillside. Nothing too tall but shading, probably deep roots rather than water seeking sprawling roots, etc... Trees and thier roots do good things for the soil ecosystem and micro, climates in thier vicinity. They also take up a fair amount of water.
I had a 30-40ft. black locust tree on my back hill. When i had it cut down we had the stump ground down and couldn't move it . I started digging on the high side and found 22 - 2" roots coming out the back of the tree. The only way I could've gotten the stump is cutting all those roots out was with a saws all. Wonderful tool that is.😂😂
Love your videos guys tell you all the time love love love your videos. I always learned something when I watch your family❤ buggy is beautiful she’s so beautiful😊
Want to thank you for your videos. Also for not making us hear chain saws for 15 minutes, great job! Only watch you tube, no network brain washing. Keep it going. We will watch.
Your family is beautiful. Your sons are an absolute credit and your beautiful daughter will adore her new brother xx. Yes my 5 grandberries think you are having a boy xx
hey ben, meg, and fam, long time watcher, first time commenter. we found a great way to kill stumps. drill some holes straight down as deep as you can with a 1" or larger bit and fill with epson salt. it can take a season or even a year, but you'll find the stump and roots hollow out with rot WAY fast.
Ahhh, the lovely stump. Hence the reason we have a saw (not a mulcher)we use on our skid steer that cuts large trees even with the ground. No stump grinder needed. Y’all put n a gallon effort though. 😊 Hey, Meg could use that camp stove for canning too. Yum, best kind of tocos!
About three weeks ago I caught cold and those loooong days when I was drinking teas etc I came across and was binging your videos. Looking forward to your new projects and adventures years to come. You guys are awesome! Love watching your family work together and get things done. Keep up the awesome videos! Carne Asada for the win!
🎉 congratulations to you all. Wow I’m so pleased for you. I’ve been thinking 4 weeks that Meg had a glow about her!
Your family is beautiful. Your sons are an absolute credit and your beautiful daughter will adore her new brother xx. Yes my 5 grandberries think you are having a boy xx
hey ben, meg, and fam,
long time watcher, first time commenter.
we found a great way to kill stumps. drill some holes straight down as deep as you can with a 1" or larger bit and fill with epson salt.
it can take a season or even a year, but you'll find the stump and roots hollow out with rot WAY fast.
Them trees would make lovely firewood for the greenhouse wood burner next winter
Ben... That camp chef griddle is the Bomb to me. I have never used one. But it looks like something i would lo-ove!... Now ive got to find me one!
Thanks for bringing us along on your project! Fun! Looks like nice weather there in NC.
For me Meg you are super woman really and I love watching Simple Living Alaska too.
