    I think it's an easy fix. The A7C II or A7Cr allow you to pick whatever lens you like using and have a far more compact carry and still get amazing AF and results.

    You make a good point at the end, depending on what system and lenses you use, you can still treat your more modern camera as an EDC, instead of buying into a whole other camera. Youll get all the reliability and QOL stuff and honestly won't take up that much room. Like an A7CII or XT5 are both crazy small

    I had a Fuji X100F then an XE4, with the 28 f2.8 then 23 f2 lens, as an everyday camera because taking pictures with a phone doesn't suit my expectations.
    I could never get used to the Fuji autofocus system, my shots came a lot out of focus if I used continuous AF, even on static subjects.
    I ended up going with a Panasonic GX9 with the 12-32 kit lens, and this works for me!

    My everyday Cameras are Sony A7RIVA and A7RV, the last two years, I nearly always carry these two Cameras every where I go ! Fx today I went for a walk at the Harbour and through the small streets of my town, today i chose to bring a 21mm, a 35mm and a 110mm, I did not use the 21mm, I used most the 35mm, but some times I used the 110mm. I love to vare which Lenses I bring. Last year I visited a big city in an other country, I decided to go simple and light weight, so I took me 21mm and my 55mm, it was perfect ! The few times when the 55mm was not long enough, I just used APSC mode or cropped in post. I have only the very best prime Lenses, I prefer compact Lenses and I also like manual focus Lenses, I have 14, 21, 24, two 35, 55, 65, 85, 110, 135 and 500mm Lenses, so I can select for where, when and why.

    Main camera is Sony A74 with 3 different lenses. Everyday and travel camera is a Fuji X-S20 with an 18-50 2.8 for day shooting and a 35mm 1.4 for night or low light shooting. That little Fuji became my favourite camera after Pentax, Nikon, Sony, Fuji cameras. Small, good grip, perfect battery life, after 3 firmware the focus is pretty good too and excellent video capability. I have a question too. Nepal or Vietnam?

  • @HJ-nh1wl
    @HJ-nh1wl 6 місяців тому +1

    Yes, I do have an EDC (Every Day Carry) camera - Leica X1. I bought this camera back in 2010 (less than a year from its launch). A Leica with APS-C sensor with 12 Megapixels and Leica Elmarit 24mm (equivalent to 36mm) f2.8 lens - delivering absolutely pin sharp images with ‘The Leica Look!’. Back then, this cost me £1400! Never ever regretted it, even today in 2024!
    There’s an old adage …. ‘Be happy with what you’ve got and work within its limitations - but, go and make images!’
    Too many people today are ‘pixel chasing with ‘instant response’ cameras’!
    I’m now 72 year old photographer - but I still practice photography at the pace of a film camera from my back in the day, 40+ years ago! Yet, I still deliver exceptional images (good enough to be included in a presentation), more often than not but with envy from younger photographers! Indeed, fewer images but with some thoughtfulness (eg composition, subject matter, etc.) than 1000 taken on a 60 megapixel camera with continuous exposure shooting mode!
    Just saying ….!
    Very interesting video - lots of food for thought! Thanks!

    I have 3 cameras, all are RX model, the RX100iii, RX10iv and then RX1R.
    I have the 100 3 years before the other cameras, it fell a couple times, the flash broke but still works.
    I bought the RX10 for the sheer flexibility of its lens
    And then the RX1R because I feel skittish about huyibg into Mirrorless, APS-C or full frame, because I fear buying lenses will be such a money sink for me no matter what. (I know myself).
    Been rocking the three for nearly 2 years now still didn't regret my choice as each cameras have their own use case which really doesnt overlap each other.
    The RX1R is my slow camera where I actually learn how to use camera the most. Back button focusing, manual focusing with oVF, using manual trigger, etc etc. It feels like a good old camera and I love it.

    As an a7iii owner I absolutely needed an everyday camera and I bought the rx100v, the main factor was pocketability, not having to carry a bag for it and it does what it's supposed to do, I'm happy with it. The issue is I would still like a 3rd camera, somewhere in-between, with interchangeable lenses and a bigger sensor (APS-C or full frame) that I can easily toss in a bag/backpack when I carry one and not make it too heavy. For traveling I don't really like carrying the a7iii with all the gear every time and the rx100 sometimes isn't enough so I'm looking at something in between

      I hear you on adding the RX100V to your A7iii. These are two different types of devices, with each providing it’s own experience. Joy of photography! For your 3rd in between camera you are looking to add, (APSC), are you looking to stay in Sony to share interchangeable lenses with your A7iii or go with something else? What are you going to do with your RX100V if you add the APSC camera?

    First off, I'm not a professional photographer. I have several older Canon cameras and am very familiar with the problem of having too much gear and struggling to make decisions, which is why I'm currently getting rid of some equipment.
    Back when my son was born, I got the RX100 Mark 3 as my "everyday camera," and even today, it's the one I often grab. It's small, compact, easy to toss in a bag without much thought, and it takes fantastic family photos for me.
    I would never want to part with my fast lenses, but depending on what you like to photograph, a compact "everyday camera" can definitely make sense.

    Hi Pierre you can set back button focus by using AF/MF control hold on the AEL button, I believe. I could be wrong since it's been a while since I touched the RX1. You set the ring to MF and the C button to AF/MF toggle. You stay in MF by default and when you want to focus you press the AEL button.

Does the Carl Zeiss badge on this lens and the other indescribables make this popular Zeiss 35mm worth the extra money?

    When I want to do my best work, I have a complete Nikon setup and a complete Canon setup (with backup cameras for each). I will use one or the other or both depending upon exactly what I am doing. As far as an 'every day' camera, I don't really have one. I *do* have a vacation camera. It is a Canon 5D Mark II (and a Canon 5D Mark II infrared converted). So why a vacation camera? If it gets lost or stolen or dropped overboard into the Pacific Ocean or falls into a volcano.. No big deal, just go get another one (too bad about that card full of pictures, though). It takes great pictures and I don't need blazing focus speed because I don't do sports or street photography and I have some lenses that are fast focusing enough for wildlife. I watch this channel to learn more about street photography to see if I want to get involved and you have other really good photography tips too.

      Thanks for sharing. The small size, image quality, jpeg engine, and minimal distortion from the 40mm ff equivalent lens makes the GRIIIx a great everyday camera. I’d love to experience it one day. There are a few knocks against it though.
      Tricky auto focus-Many recommend zone focusing. Whats this like?
      No EVF-LCD only way to frame a shot, eyeball exposure, or check focus. Is this manageable in bright sunlight?
      Fixed LCD- Can’t flip screen to frame low angles, or check if in focus if taking selfies.
      40mm not great for selfies-hard to get self in shot and environment, forget about getting two people in the shot.
      How do you actually carry it? Do you have a case for it? Does it go into your pocket? Small bag on your shoulder?

    I would agree with you for the most part. But I have a Z8 which is massive compared to something like a zf. I still take my Z8 out whenever I can. But I wouldn't even think of taking it over the zf for everyday use, it's a no brainer. I think your issue lies more within having a fixed lens than your camera itself. I plan to slap my 50mm Voigtlander onto a zf and call it a day, but I'll never be restricted to just that on that camera. I think it's an easy choice to take something like a Z8 out for work, and the zf out for everyday use. I love the Z8 but it is the most cumbersome MILC I've ever used. And I've used of different ones across brands.

The updated version is super great and super flexibel. I also love it. I have also an RX100 V and this is still really compact. I know that it is technically not possible but guess you would have such a compact format with a 35f2 and even if it would have just an APS-C sensor this would be a really everyday pocket camera. So for the 1.500 you paid and not the 4.000 you have to pay in Germany it is a nice camera.

      My EDC is the 2020 A7C with the 24 mm, f2.8, G & 50 mm, f2.5, G Sony lenses. Wondering how you walk around everywhere with the relatively large 24-70mm zoom lens. Doesn't that lens ruin the compact aesthetic of the camera?

    But sometimes you don't want to have your very expensive camera kit (in my case also really heavy Z9) with you all the time. I often do roadtrips and the chance the camera will get stolen is - sometimes - very high. So my everyday camera is an old Sony A7 + 35mm 1.2 MF lens and it's awesome to give yourself the time it needs. I also got a Fuji X-T100 with the magical 23mm 1.4 and the film simulations are so much fun ... i don't need RAW and 45mp / 8k video in my free time. So I´m really happy with that set of cameras / systems and it was a good decision to have a real heavy workhorse like the Z9 just for work and much smaller and lighter bodies for hobby. Sadly Sony never had such a body in their portfolio ...

    Thanks for this m I’m still using the original rx1. Related to some complaints, to each their own, for me…No crop mode? Who cares. Cropping in camera is irrelevant. Colour science? if you edit, load some colour checker profiles if you want accurate. As much as I like the pop up, the tile of the add on is great, though it could fit tighter.

    Pierre can buy a few of them, you sometimes work really hard for ONE. Don't buy what it's TRENDING but what you need for YEARS.
    Seriously, people need to calm down with those popular trends, like we got a few months back with compact cameras, and Fuji X100VI and now, everybody is quiet (lol)

  • @AnnaVahtera

    Did you miss the point of an everyday carry, or do you REALLY take your 70-200mm every time you go out the door? Shopping trip? Getting more gas? Driving to get your kid from school/club/friend's? You always grab your full gear?
    The point of an everyday carry is that it doesn't leave you. It lives in your pocket or handbag or purse or whatever you carry. It's always with you.
    The choice isn't "I wish I had my 70-200mm/2.8 instead of my everyday carry, why did I buy this?" It's between "I didn't take my 70-200mm/2.7 because it didn't fit into my pocket. I'm glad I brought my everyday carry, even if it isn't the best camera in existence."
    Unless you literally always carry your full photography gear with you, the argument of "too much choice" is a moot point.

    • @Cthames123
      @Cthames123 6 місяців тому

      I agree 100% with your sensibility of what an EDC should be! The giant zoom lens relation made isn't a good example and that would no way be apart of my everyday set up! But at the same time I can relate to how the EDC can be such a strong capable option with all things considered, (including portability) that it could contend with the notion of bringing it over a larger more capable in some way setup.

    • @AnnaVahtera
      @AnnaVahtera 6 місяців тому

      @@Cthames123 The point is that you can bring *both*. The everyday carry should stay in it's place regardless of if you bring your large gear or not. It's not "which one of these" it's either "EDC or nothing" or "EDC or both."
