Indeed. All the fights are still a bit over the top but, you expect that with a film. What works in real life doesn't look good on film, usually. But they still somehow managed to make something that is exciting to watch yet seems like moves a real fighter might use in combat.

The more I repeat watching this the more I saw how brilliant it is, try to watch the fighting skill of each swordsman and you'll see how amazing those executions are.
This is my second favorite movie in the history of Anime. Akira is obviously my number one, but the music, story, and plot to this was so damn good I cried a few times.
Most days my recommended is full of random trivial and forgettable junk but every now and then a shining gem appears. I've never heard of this anime but now I need to watch it immediately
Impressive, so much emotion, power, conveyed without the usual overpowered evolution, magic blasts, laser cannons, etc. No English subtitles, but I'd love to see the whole film.
That final fight, my god. The shear symbolism alone is amazing. Nanashi is the "Red Devil", he's fighting a dark mirror reflection of himself. At the end, Nanashi and Lang trade swords, he finally slays the monster that wielded that sword that executed the innocent.
I get chills every time I watch the final fight. It's one of the absolute best, most realistic swordfight scenes in any form of media, anime or otherwise. A real swordfight between two very skilled combatants is super-messy and chaotic. A skilled swordsman who has respect for his equally skilled opponent isn't going to go in flailing, they are going to be constantly moving around and looking for some form of advantage. The whole fight is a masterpiece.
This is actually a movie and its actually starting to get pretty old. Its called Sword of the Stranger. Its free in a lot of places I believe its on netflix. Its a super emotional movie and the ending is nearly guaranteed to make you tear up. Ive rewatched it maybe 5 times now lmao.
How many get emotional with this fight scene? Its so beautifully animated and dramatized that it's hard not to get a tear in the eye every time I see it.
Sweet. This really gives great aesthetics into the animation with the chosen environment. I really enjoy how they have the dust and snow are used in the battles to showcase how quickly and impactful they are in their fights
Yo how have I not watched this film??? The animation and choreography in the fight scenes is straight up dope. Looks like I found me another one to add to my MAL to watch later.

uncletigger Yeah. If anyone hasn’t watched the movie yet, don’t read this. It’s quite poetic. He has it tied to the sheath as a pray like you said because he once had to kill two young nobles for his duty as a samurai. Now he finally unsheathes his blade to save a boy of the same age. It’s basically redemption, but unspoken which shows good writing. I love it!
uncletigger I have not. Unfortunately, I haven’t done much reading. I have done a good deal of writing though. Mostly on D&D adventures and a book I’m writing on the side. Me and a friend of mine have actually been working on a huge story for a while. I would share some of it, but that would be a lot of paragraphs and I’d rather just show the first chapter in a video, or something
No wild and crazy sword styles or magic abilities. Just pure skill and this fight scene proves that you can do a good anime without all the craziness with it
One thing I feel goes a little underappreciated (or at least I haven't seen anyone mention) is how good the animation is in terms of conveying meaning. For example, I have never watched this show before and this is the only context I have of the show, but when who I assume is the main character here unsheathes his sword, I can still tell that this action is very important to, and likely holds some sort of symbolic meaning to said character (probably hasn't unsheathed his sword for an incredibly long time, perhaps due to a promise made to a friend/mentor or something similar).
I remember watching this and saying that the action was so intensely good he hasn't even drawn his sword yet... can they even top that? Then he draws his sword and I go HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! EPIC!
That duel with the blonde swordsman is one of the best fights in the history of anime

I remember when I worked at a movie theater they showed this movie for one night only. I went with my brothers since it was free for me and family. Anyway, there was this group of weebs who everytime someone was killed or died, they laughed so loud the whole theater was drowned in it. Kind of ruined the experience, especially during the serious parts like this. I get they were awkward 17ish year olds, but I would have been pissed if I spent money.
Bee R ee Oof. That sucks. I hope you got to enjoy the movie at a later date. This movie is golden.
I myself watched it on Funimation on my own, so I was able to get completely immersed
That dog was a good boy!
It was so good on so many levels, we need more like it!
I have no idea what this is or why youtube recommended it to me, but that dog. That is by far one of the bestest boys in all of fiction.
This was such a great anime with a good story. The fighting just cherry on the top
This was a hype fight, and the dog is amazing.
How am I just now seeing this?!?! The animation is beautiful!!!
this is the one of the best anime movie... 👍👍
Me too bro, I’m floored at the detailed frame rate, and it’s older, this new stuff is SUCH LAZY ANIMATION (some say, they are underpaid.) but how is that possible when America watches more anime than Japan?!
@@7eamGhast 70% views are from illegal source. Also, in case of most shows the studio does not hold 100% of the profit.
Mahdi Akhyear very valid prospective I overlooked. Interesting conundrum.
@@7eamGhast ??
u mocking?
Ever heard of kissanime.com ?
It generates more views than "crunchyroll" and "funimation" combined.
Even with premium membership, some contents are region locked and most vpn's cant override that,
So there are lots of ppl who just ignore all that trouble and stream from illegal sites...
You'd know if you'd live in one of these countries where online transaction are troublesome
The more I repeat watching this the more I saw how brilliant it is, try to watch the fighting skill of each swordsman and you'll see how amazing those executions are.
Incredible to watch fight scenes like this with no ridiculous level 1 million nuclear blasts and faster than light movement BS.
If you haven’t already seen it you should watch Vinland saga, it’s really good
@@codex-_-8789 Cheers. Been meaning to get around to it but I like the hype to die down first :)
You're going to love Samurai Champloo.
Is it?
Can we just appreciate how cute and OP the dog is?
Dude I loved this anime. I watched it on a lark having never heard of it or the director and I was really really impressed. Lot of
Yojimbo vibes
Damn I wish most anime’s actually had a straight forward fight like this instead of needing to take 10 minutes explaining a technique.
This was simply legendary. They should put out a movie for it
@Ryan Ntawiremera élève that's the joke
This is the best anime film ever made I could watch this everyday for the rest of my life
You gotta love anime THATS ACTUALLY ANIMATED. No corny still frames or reused assets.
You gotta love anime fans who don’t complain about every single living thing
are all of you asking what name of the anime is when it's in the description and the name of the video
It is for me, the best sword anime. No magic, just sword and skills.
True that... and it's more bone chilling the the regular magical whizz maybe it's the choreography
The best is afro samurai
That anime might be the best I've ever seen. So perfect, so ....just perfect
How did i miss this anime. Feels like a new ninja scroll, my all time favorite anime along with nausicaa.
It's the fucking music man. So good.
i just loved the blonde guy. the whole movie along
After watching this movie like 10 times, I don’t even need to watch this video over again I just instantly liked it 😂
Sweet. This really gives great aesthetics into the animation with the chosen environment. I really enjoy how they have the dust and snow are used in the battles to showcase how quickly and impactful they are in their fights
The doggo inspired me more than it should have.
Was hoping ninja scroll bamboo forest fight scene would have lasted as long as this.
Yo how have I not watched this film??? The animation and choreography in the fight scenes is straight up dope. Looks like I found me another one to add to my MAL to watch later.
Random UA-cam algorithm. Seems I gotta check it out. Looks pretty badass😁
Its one of my best anime movies! Pieace of art indeed !!

'2:53-2:59' - the act that we all were waiting for a long time. I have watched many sword fighting anime, but this movie is one of the best. I am 40+ now, but still, I want to watch it again. ❤️❤️
So this is that new game ghost of tsushima everyone keeps telling me about. Looks great! I'll definitely pick this little gem up soon. Thx 👍🏻
How is youtube reading my mind... i was thinking of this film a few days ago but never searched for it...their ML Algos are predicting my behaviour with incredible accuracy, i feel like a lab rat.
Roger M. Don’t worry I don’t even know this and haven’t been thinking about it yet I got it recommended
I'm most likely the only guy here who dl this movie the day it was out on tokyotosho, around 13 years ago.
this is some scary ass shit
He didn’t even unsheathe his sword for the first guys
I didn’t realize it until THE END!!!
Well, the dog took down half of them 😁
uncletigger deep.
uncletigger Yeah.
I am truly mesmerized by the majesty of samurai sword play. This anime was a sweet treat when I first watched it. Thanks for the fight scenes.
No wild and crazy sword styles or magic abilities. Just pure skill and this fight scene proves that you can do a good anime without all the craziness with it
Dude Reminds me of Jubei from Ninja Scroll lots of heart and determination.
Yes. I thought so too
He is jubei the ⁰ Generic hero and Japanese apology is jubae
Is it a coincidence that I was recommended this after finishing ghost of tsushima?
Anime name?
@@Truth_teller_indian sword of the stranger
Sekiro time.
Nope it's not. UA-cam knows everything you like... dont know if that's a good thing or bad thing yet 🤔
Honestly, this is such an underrated film. Excellent animation and fight scenes.
I agree this movie was awesome from start to finish
Blonde guy: "fucking plot armor..." *dies
Mc: "hmph"
I remember watching this and saying that the action was so intensely good he hasn't even drawn his sword yet... can they even top that? Then he draws his sword and I go HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! EPIC!
Imagine having your arm broken at the elbow and still do backflips and shit. I'd have cried.
The Chinese expedition team all use extremely heavy painkillers except blonde one, they don't notice their wounds even on the verge of death.
This implies a total conflicting of force, power and resilience a truly exposition of a brilliant tactic and game plan! Bravo!
I think that's the best way for animators to go if they are going to make Vagabond adaptation
