What do you think about step through ebikes? I'm sold! Links to reviews of other Engwe bikes are in the description.
There is a stigma associated with step through bikes, it’s basically associated with being a girls bike but personally I couldn’t care less.
Yeah I like the M20 Pro and I'm thinking of a dual battery job the upgrade controller, motors brakes, suspension etcbut I'm a crossbar kinda guy, it helps to stretch a bit lol.
@@goingoutotheparty1 haha yeah the L20 is the easy life 😂
I have a several bikes a step through e bike being one of them each bike is slightly different ride posture and feel but all are fun
@@matthewgibbs6705 one for each occasion 👍👍
You can have the Throttle activated as long as it doesn't propel you faster than 3.7 mph! I was just reading all the stuff last night for my new one and come across the part about the 3.7 mph legal Throttle use! You can use it if you are older n have disabilities trying to put the power down to set off
That is actually a 48v bike with an 18amp controller that peaks at 960 watts and is rated at 750 watts continuous. In the USA this bike is technically illegal as it goes over 20mph by throttle alone. How could it be otherwise, the thing goes 25mph and flys uphill. If I were in the UK, I’d buy one in a second!! I live in the US and bought the class 2 Wired freedom (60v 2000 watts, 40mph when it is unlocked). Nice to have the power and speed if you need it.
Yeah it's good that it can be classed as 250w as plausible deniability is a beautiful thing 😂
I wish there was a way to get the wired freedom shipped here to the UK. I'd get one instantly.
@@e-VRC
As all governments know!😉🤫
Yup, except it's legal in good ole Florida. We regulate speed not wattage.
@@FloridaEbikes this is how it should be 👌👍
The front light on the L20 can also be mounted on the fork brace using the front mudguard bolt
I would just like to thank you i saw this video a year ago when i was looking for a good ebike for the uk. Bit abit pricey for me after a year its my birthday i have enough looked at current videos and the reviews are still great so you were spot on! Get mine next week!!!
I own the M20 and my wife has the L20. Your numbers are similar to what our American 750 watt bikes do. They have been impressing me on a daily basis. They do well off road and on hill climbs. They are well built machines
Glad you're enjoying them. So cool that you enjoy them together 👍👍
DO NOT BUY THESE BICYCLES...THIS BICYCLE IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL...THE POLICE IS SEIZING IT IN THE UK
Which one is better for hilly routes?
After researching we got my wife the e26 to follow me around on my Freego F1 pro and the Engwe is a horse. Great bang for buck
That was not only a great review but an enjoyable watch too. Thank you.
DO NOT BUY THESE BICYCLES...THIS BICYCLE IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL...THE POLICE IS SEIZING IT IN THE UK
@@liammalarky3483 sorry I'm late. Thanks for watching 👍🏽
it probably is a 250watt motor, but its also probably a 36 volt motor with a 48 volt controller and battery, that would make it go alot faster, but still keeps it legal, you will just burn out the motor faster
Bingo! My custom kit is the same. It can hit up to 28Mph easy.
The real motor power of this bike is 500 watts (both eu and us models rebranded as 250/750 same exact engine )wich paired with the 48v makes it really a good combo.
Is that the actual specs of the motor ?
Some parts of America remind me so much of the UK 😜
Excellent 250 w e-bike 😜 , very similar to the FIIDO T1 but that’s has a 20AH battery .
my t1 has 2x 24ah batterys and bac 855 controller 😊
I've just bought a wolf in sheep's clothing tricycle three seater that does an eye watering 33pmh, 80 miles on a single charge 48v 30ah lithium battery, equipped with quadruple rear suspension creating anti tipping, can climb 30%+ gradients, grandma loves it for doing her Iceland shop 😁
I want it lol
Hi Dave sounds pretty great e-trike that can do 33mph is sufficient enough to handle the day - night life routine.
Bet your grandma loves it going down for the shop, where did you get yours?? as my mom who is old less fortunate needs one.
What tricycle is it though?

EXCELLENT review. Loved watching it, Definitely swaying me to e-bikes.
(If the seat was a little bit higher your knees will hurt less?)
Thanks very much. Yeah I definitely have my seat too low. Welcome to the wonderful world of ebikes 😊
I do think the speed limit in the uk should be at least 20/25mph depending on the rider, but that's me that olso depends where I'm riding
Can you please tell me, where to clear the 'Trip-Counter' in the display ??? It always shows the value of the whole driven distance ?!?
Yea, they do need to look at this, power and ability to get up hills with larger folks on and equipment etc puts the base 250w bikes with the dinosaurs, we need at least 500 and throttles to make these bikes easier and safer to use
Totally with you on this. No reason all bikes can't be 1000w but limited. They don't have to accelerate crazily either as some people think they must if they're that powerful.
It's very hard to find the torque for the L20 which is most important for climbing hills. I suspect it is between 40 and 50 nm when a Cube bike with a Bosch motor has 70 to 80 nm. It is however more than twice the price. It's almost as if Engwe and Ado etc hide the torque figures.
@@MikeBrown-dk7or According to Engwe the torque of the L20 is 50 nm.
@@PHOT0GUY And will only climb 10 deg
Looked at loads of reviews of ebikes. Im 61 with a bit of arthritis. Your review was great. Sandy Lane done it for me. Love it to bits as does my housemate. Loads of people ask about it.Thx for the £50 code too. Keep up the good work.
I love a utiltarian e-bike especailly as things like aero and weight become less important. Assist speed of 15.5 is fine for me it's about 60% of my non assisted speed and I usually cruise about 16mph analgoue so for me it's about eliminating the hills and allowing me to not question adventures and taking stuff to work. 20mph just causes too much strain on my compenents and it stops becoming an assist and just becomes the primary power of motion which feels disengaged and defeates the point of being on the bike for me.
Very true!
By the sound the bike is making I would say it is a planetary geared motor which gives more torque than a basic hub motor and this can be up to 3 times greater.
Showing better performance on hills. Planetary geared motors will need maintenance before a hub motor. There is always a sacrifice for basic power.
What sort of maintenance, Brian, my friend?😊
What a superb video! I used your code and bought one as a result :)
I never noticed the L20 when I was hunting for a EBike and went for the Engwe Engine X 250 and what a blast and getting my NHS friend to look at this model to get and I love the look of the Olive green and love to get one to match my folded up bike and a side note many thanks for making my mind up on the folding fat tyre bike I bought with your reviews
Glad I helped. I still haven't tried the engine X but from what I gather they're basically the same power and spec wise. I do love a step thru with BMX handlebars though 😊
@@e-VRC when you did the folding EP2 Pro and the engine pro set up did it and big respect for doing it in the rain
Probably on the pavement or in a bike lane with most of the other people who use motorised bikes. Is it a lack of physical fitness thing or just cba getting insurance, taking a test and riding a proper motorbike? I suppose ebike users would have to be accountable then and that wouldn't do.
Great review mate, thanks for this. I'm going go car free this year, so I need a do it all bike. My back is a pretzel so the step through option is perfect. Thanks again.
Cheers glad it helped 👍 good luck with ebike life 🤟
Great review
My question is brakes,i thought disc brake ether had float caliper or floating disc. This has neither, and its single piston so in affect bends the disc, or am i missing something.
+ The front cable is to short its pulling the sheath out the housing when turning the bars to the right.
Your reviews are very good. I'd love for you to do one on Engwe's Engine X to see how it compares to this L20 and the Engine Pro. I know I don't want either the 750w EP2 Pro or Engine Pro as I don't want it confiscated and to be fined etc. I'm 16 and a half stone, and need something that's going to get me and some cargo up the steep hills hereabouts. The Engine X is marked as having a 250W motor but it can be unlocked as can its throttle. I'd love to see you put it through your hill test.
The engine x is the same as the ep-2 pro basically. The engine pro is the bike you want if you are trying to get a lot of weight up a steep hill.
Thanks! I think the Engine X is a similar situation to the L20 where it will be faster and more torquey than the motor badge would suggest. So depends on whether you want cargo or folding. I prefer the L20 shape.
I still have 2 of their bikes to review I might ask for the X when I'm done.
@@e-VRC According to Engwe the L20 has a maximum instantaneous power of 500w and a torque of 50. The Engine X has a maximum instantaneous power of 800w and a torque of 55.
Couldn't get the link to work but purchase an L20 because of your review... Its fantastic and am going to get two more when they are back in stock, cheers.
Nice one. Yeah it's great. Thanks for the heads up about the link I'll check that out 👍
I think the Uk limit should be raised to 20mph and a throttle allowed... But i doubt it will ever happen.
We can hope 🤞🤞
Agreed, it'll be a cold day in hell before they bother looking into their 4th 100,00 signature petition.
It's a ridiculous law. My folding road bike can hit 22mph without much trouble. And I've been on a 16lb carbon road bike that hit 33MPH. This 15.5mph law makes no sense..
@@fender1000100 its to keep the scared curtain twitching daily mail readers voting tory, they think all ebikes and scooters are ridden by 14yr old gangsters whilst vaping
It'll never encourage car drivers to switch over to a "green" transport that does half the urban speed limit.
It's silly cos I'm 54 and can maintain 20-22mph on legs all day. Even got stopped in my youth for doing 37mph downhill, in a 30 zone.
what's the most powerful foldable bike you would recommend?
Probably the Pvy z20 plus 1000 but there is a z20 Max coming soon.
Saving this for my dinner time today
How was dinner
On a normal MTB i pedal to 35 km/h, and my current e-MTB cuts off at 25 km/h and then e-brakes to slow me down when i go over. So i think 30-35 km/h should be standard/top for e bikes, not 25 km/h which is slower than i would ride with no motor on it.
I was going to go for the Engine X ,,, but this has just changed my mind, the speed combined with the bmx bars I'm converted,,cheers bro excellent vids👍
Thanks for watching 👍 The engine x is a similar situation where a more powerful bike is classified as 250w so is also pretty fast. Just a case of which form factor you prefer. Both are great.
@@e-VRCi have Engwe x26 1370 watts 😃
@56679076 how long does sport mode last for on your bike? Does it lock you out of sport mode after being used for a certain amount of time?
@@e-VRC max speed 50km/h, last time with main battarey 27km and 40% left after ride
You can use cruise mode, you need to hold booster aprox. 8 seconds to get it on 😃
The bike could still be limited to 15mph but the regulations need to allow more torque for climbing and a speed limited throttle if they want us out of our cars. The current 250w are not useful enough so sadly i choose any of my three gas guzzlers for most trips
they probably don't want them "useful". everything is a scam. people who are in charge for all of this are flying private jets
Thats what they want. Everyone on powerful ebikes would be less tax money and less oil use.
Big question here...
Fido t1pro v engwe l20 for food delivery?
😊 ♥️
those handlebars on the my engine pro would look great
Agreed
What is the price?
I think the uk limit should be 22 mph with throttle and maybe 500 Watts
22mph what's that I can ride a bike nearly at that speed you want 30mph when you need it. Mine does 50mph great it's like being on a motor bike I don't do that speed as battery would go quick normally 34mph even 30 mph is fast people don't realize you can get from a to b in no time all my kit include lights £895 big difference
I don't really think I matters to much as people will always unlock them to go faster
What a clown world when a normal street bike can pass you at 40+ km.
I have a few e.bikes the slowest one does 15.5 and the quicker one does 28+ and have never had any problems with the police
@@matthewgibbs6705 Trouble is mate…you’ve been lucky…they can absolutely can throw the book at you with £5000 fine and 6 licence points. It has put me off risking it.
If a plug is just 2 pin then it is just a live and neutral pin. You can buy a 3 pin plug with a plastic earth and wire the live and neutral in then you have a nice 3 pin plug.
Rear suspension is a must unless you like your spine to be the suspension. Also I just don't have confidence in these bikes from China. The quality issues will eventually show up with no way to get parts. Batteries on these bikes are usually low quality too. I'd get an Ariel Rider Grizzly if they were available in the UK.
I just got mine, and did nowhere near the claimed range of 140km ! False advertisement from ENGWE. I know range can vary from rider and conditions, but I got only 40km out of this bike... and only 25km on max settings...... Very very disappointed... All the rest is pretty good, except some gears jumping but this I'm sure I can adjust... I will be writing a complain to the company, FALSE ADVERTISEMENT by ENGWE! You are right ! CHINA
I’m happy riding mine at 25mph max speed on open road. 10-15mph on sidewalks to avoid automobile traffic…
This bike has a lot in common to the RadRunner plus. I got the lower model of RadRunner 2 and I love it. The hills in my area that used to give me issues basically have melted away with that ebike. It is properly set to Canada's class 2 specification with a 500w motor and 32kph/20mph limiter on it. Would be nice to have the US limit of 750w but I feel bad where you are you are limited to only 250w. That said with the speed you were getting you clearly were doing more than 250w and it shows. In your own test data it kept up with another 750w bike.
Yeah i think this is there version of the Radrunner basically. I wish all 250w ebikes were done like this. Basically a lot more powerful but limited in speed.
Correct, the website (now) also mentions the 750w motor
I hope you're able to do a review on the Vitilan U7 2.0 which looks very similar to this but with hydraulic brakes and bigger battery and 'possibly (given the l20 is only L20 right ?!) a bigger motor. kind regards and thanks for the great work
How can it be powering you over 20mph when by law assist supposed to cut out at 15mph this must be illegal.
Everything is illegal wake up
Jobsworth
That's a nice bike but I doubt it could negotiate the hills where I live in Cornwall ? I think I would need something designed for off road.
This would be absolutely fine. I live in the lake district and ebikes smash the hills here and the hills are big
20mph limit would be so much safer as then you could travel same speed as cars in the city.
I do, and still almost get sideswiped by drivers doing 40mph. If the legal limit is good enough for ebikes, why do car manufactures make cars that go 180mph? One rule for car, another rule for bikes..
@@fraserthomson5766ebikes are the only vehicle type that have power AND speed restrictions. You have learner motorcycles as well with power restrictions but they can go above 70 which is as fast as you can ever legally ride so it doesn't matter. The 15mph limit is just awkward and holds up traffic everywhere.
The idea of an e-bike is that it is a bicycle with motor assist. So it should be used in places where one would ride a normal pedal bike. Is it safe to ride a pedal bike in the city? If not then that should be addressed.
@@HenriZwols usually no, it's not safe in the city on a bike.
@@JudeTheUA-camPoopersubscribe Then the city council should address that. Increasing the legal speed limit for e-bikes for safety reasons will only benefit those who can afford an e-bike, further increasing the divide between the haves and have-nots.

20mph is a good speed 👍
Most people who have used an ebike would agree with that, but the ignorant masses who have never used an ebike will ruin things as usual.
The max speed in the uk is 70mph, if your so determined to force limited speed on ebikes, insurance license etc then you must then consider all cars have limiter fitted to 70mph, after all they are already on HGV PCV and ebikes, its time then to fit them to cars.

Hi. First time viewer simply because I'm very interested in buying this very bike. And BTW I'm almost sold but I need your confirmation on something, please. I have an existing ebike which is lousy on any uphill climb, so after 3 tries I stopped using it - but I need some form of exercise for me knees.... except uphills. At least they seem to know a bit more about power than the UK.
As regards your braking ... you might want to adjust the Front / Rear bias

Which bike is best for food delivery L20 or L20SE
Hello !
Wich one you prefer ? Engwe L20 or Ep2 pro?
(I do delivery job sometimes)
This one looks really good. Might wait for some of those upgrades though.
I'm waiting to see if an upgraded one available with hydrologic breaks otherwise would get someone to do the job for me.
If you keep it legal and not have the throttle - can it be manually peddled beyond 15mph ok? Down hill I assume it would go more
Which would you choose between the Fiido Titan or Engwe L20 for daily commute to work? I have some steep hills on my route.
What’s the range on this thing on max PSA with some throttle given it wise about as much as the engine pro and doesn’t look at being very skinny any rough estimate of range and relatively flat streets? Still think it’s way overpriced for what it is? Was thinking about it because you’re less likely to get pulled over on this, I suppose, but I think they just want you to buy the 16 amp battery to be honest, but with the 13 amp any rough estimate of a range
Very informative video. Sold it to me.
So if I was to purchase and move 😉 to the USA. How would one go about unlocking the throttle etc
This video shows you that it's very easy to change speed limit. If you want to enable the throttle function, there's an easy to find video on that too....

I really like the way the battery easily lifts out of this bike for a change, but i wouldnt swap it for the Engine Pro. I took the rear pannier rack off my bike and it looks even better. Cheers! It is mega easy yeah, there's a video on their site. Annoyingly there's not much L20 stock at the moment. The ep2 pro is great but I prefer the L20.
I have the ep-2 - I'd weigh up how much you really need the folding feature as it kinda messes with the geometry of the bike - a bit narrow/wobbly/funny handlebar angle, and it's pretty heavy. looking at this L20 I'd happily have bought it instead of the ep2 - i like the front rack and green colour more
Hmm. Looks OK, but after a bit of digging I discovered that (unsurprisingly) they are manufactured in China. This gives me some safety concerns regarding the battery. Are the batteries UN38.3 type tested, for example?
When chargingI sit the charger and battery in a metal wok under the fire alarm just in case lol
Is it possible to upgrade the display on this ebike? If so do you know which ones are compatible?
How does it do getting up kerbs? Does the low build mean it catches? Does it have a decent walk assist so I can wheel it up a step into the house? If pedal assist is so slow, how does that work on a hill start?
Should bounce up kerbs no problem. Yeah hold down for wall assist. There's always the throttle on hill start but if not using it just remember to be in gear 1 when you come to a stop 👍
Great review mate!!
What do you think of pedaling? Did you ghost pedal a lot or you could actually feel you were pushing something?
I find that ghost pedaling gives a bit stupid feeling and afraid of that..
You can definitely help. When i got to 29/29 mph i was definitely helping. Cruising at 25 you don't have to help but you can always knock it down a level and help it out. I don't mind ghost pedalling I just need to remind myself I don't need to be whizzing around real fast. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Thanks for the answer mate.
So it didn't give a 'stupid feeling' most of the time for you..at least resistance of SOMETHING was present even on low speeds.
@iakobkv271 yeah it's a case of being able to choose to or choose not to.
Forgive my ignorance, but how do u unlock the full potential, is it as easy as pressing a button in the control settings?😊
Throttle is the holding handle thing in the video. Then increasing speed limit is done in the computer it's quite easy.
It looks just like the Fiido T1 Pro, which looks just like the Radrunner.
The Fiido is better IMO so I bought one - (bigger battery & hydraulic brakes).
Radrunner was one of the first ebikes I ever saw a review about cool bike. For me the Rad and the Fiido definitely look a bit more 'workhorse' and aren't quite as cool looking as the L20.
Hi there
Love the review. If i was to.love to the US and unlock it so the throttle becomes achive etc isnig eash to do?
It's easy to turn the throttle on and off.
Help please,...! Firstly thank you for your fantastic reviews..I'm a 63 year old living near to you in Kinver....so hilly! I'm loving the L20 and wanting one..a discount through your you tube makes it £950 UK pounds from Poland.
My question is...Do you think, or do you think they will bring a PRO version with Hydraulic Breaks? As much better for my arthritic fingers...
This bike would be lovely for me to get out for picnics by the river. And shopping over to Stourbridge along the canal..
My current 250w Halfords citi folding is just not upto long journeys..and a pain up hills.
Be lovely to hear from you...
Take care Jim
Ooh good question. I can ask them. I asked the same question about m20 pro and they said no plans. I'd say check out the one in my latest video but i bet you like the look of the step through.
These bikes need some easy quick way to reset the controller. I' love to ride it unlocked but i don't want it taken of me because it's got too much power not because i'm going too fast. It doesn't take any mistakes by the rider - if you commute the same route over and over people can target you and make complaints. Believe me
Yes! I've been saying this. Like a panic mode, hold down 3 buttons.
If you keep it limited to 17 you'll still have the power an 17 isn't too bad you'll get away with that. Then throttle can be turned off pretty fast.
On the verge of ordering one for £999 by Klarna. I'm the perfect world I'd get it through the cycle to work schemes instead of Klarna and save about 30% but I personally don't know any suppliers which sell these great models instead of Halfords type ebikes
That could be the answer to my bike packing woes
Can I hang a normal bike seat for children 4 years oldat the back of L20? . Child weight is 16 kg.
Hi mate nice video 👍
Whilst cycling does it charge the battery?
What’s the battery range on a full charge ?
Cheers! Nah it doesn't charge when cycling. About 13 mins in I talk about the range. Lots of things to consider.
only 23miles
I used to have a Raleigh Wildcat and a Raleigh Vektar in Black as a kid that I subbed Streethawk and even had custom sticker placed saying Streethawk lol, I would have loved this electric battery on that. In fact I think somebody needs to turn them into E-Bikes they would be epic.
They are so cool! You know I was having a similar thought not long ago. We used to call them 'computer bikes' and most had the sound module on the handlebars. They would be so cool as electric bikes.
Will you be trying the L20 boost at any point?
I'm 52 riding 100-200 kilometers per week on my mountain bike on all sorts of terrain, I really hope I never need an ebike but this does look fun.
Awesome! Maybe if you ever need a little push like a coffee in the morning 😂👍
No matter what age you are, ebikes are more fun than push bikes.
Hello,
Could you please let me know what the mileage was after you unlocked the top speed. Thanks 😊
Zero
@@e-VRCSorry my English seems to be no good. So I will correct myself with new question. What range of mileage you did after unlocking the max speed of 25km to 45km. Thanks
Can you attach and pull a loaded trailer ok so you think?
Hi thank you for the video how do you think it would be for the beach saltwater and sand ? FISHING
Hi there im after an ebike to commute to.from wrk also i need the rear back carry basket what would you recommed also ill.be nipping out of wrk for materials etc the trip per day will be rougly 8miles himmiway zebra type of bike im after cheers
You guys got it rough over there. I just finished converting my mongoose fat tire bike into a 5000w monster.
Nice where is that?
Hi! Do you still have it? If so, how has it held up? Battery, engine, gears and breaks?
Cheers
@@MrDavidschutzer I swapped it with esk8 youtuber ASeSkater. However I've had a few Engwe bikes long term and they've all been great.
Hopefully there were no breaks. A broken bike is no use.
Great review and if I hadn't bought the engine pro, which I love I would get the L20 the pink one of course, keep up the good work and I look forward to the next video, and I think the ebike speed should be increased to 20 and a throttle should be allowed its dangerous without...also if you have any recommendations for 20 by 4 tyres for my engine pro I would appreciate the advice thanks
Thanks! (Sorry i missed this) haha I'd love the pink one... you got a burst tyre?
How is it going uphills?
