I sincerely appreciate these updates, Stephen. It is always great to get an idea of what my catesetums should be looking like and/or doing right about now. Compared to last year, this growing season has been awesome and I'm really expecting some 1st time blooms from several plants this fall. Boy flowers, girl flowers, doesn't really matter to me this time around. I'll take whatever they give me 🤗 In fact, the anticipation is killing me!

Thank you for this video. I have 4 young catasetums from SVO this year. One actually has a spike, so I’m pleased about that. They are on my sun porch which usually cools down now at night since I live in MI. Also, no bugs other than spiders and an occasional ant. I’m watching them for the changes you discussed, and appreciate the time you put into keeping us informed!

Hey Stephen, really appreciate the videos! My little collection of 7 plants from Fred C are doing well in their first MN summer. I had a few bloom over the summer and it seems the growth suffered a little but the rest are looking great using the PET method.
Wondering about your hanger, is that basically a closet wire shelf on a couple of T or U posts? I could do something like that in my side yard though the plants would get full sun most of the day which may be tolerable at my latitude. It would definitely allow me to add to the collection lol!

Since acquiring over one dozen Catasetinae, Autumn has certainly shifted from being a pumpkin-focused, leaf color change season, to a catsetum/cycnoches/Monnierara-centered wait for all these lovely plants to yellow, bloom, and go dormant. In my mind, fall will now forever be the CataSEASON :) Thank you for this video

Similar to blossom rot on tomatoes. That too is caused from a calcium deficiency. When the plants a nutrient rich, they automatically become more resistant to bugs

    • @ramonafrances4364

Is the available calcium being absorbed? Some calcium types are better than others Is the ratio -compared to other nutrients in balance. Too much of one kind can cancel another.

    • @SVKLOrchids

Thank you for this wonderfully informative video! I'm relatively new to Catasetum types, and find your videos so helpful. I've had my (only) Catasetum from SVO for 3 years now and no spikes or blooms yet. Last year I really thought I'd get a spike because the newest pseudobulb (the third one on the plant) was pretty huge and fat. But no luck. This year's growth is even huger (now the 4th on the plant) and appears to still be in active growth. I'm in Philadelphia, PA and keep my Catasetum on my roof deck with lots of sun and good breeze. I grow it in semi-hydro, and have slow release fertilizer in the little plastic cups as you use. Seems very happy and grows quickly in the summers. Is there anything I should be doing to trigger a spike? Or just more patience and TLC?

I have a new monn.mill magic and its started yellowing it's bottom leaf and I noticed the other leaves are having some yellowing but very light sooo I did a big no no and pulled on the plant to see underneath the pot and low and behold my roots are soggy and falling off.... What do I do???? It's was sent to me in pure spag and in that pot.

Thank you so much for your videos - I'm always learning from you! This year is my first growing season, so I'm pretty nervous. Two of my catesetum [in PET, THANKS TO YOU] have spikes and dropping off 1-2 of their bigger leaves, do I continue watering as normal, which for me is constantly moist? Also, at this time, they're both outside in my balcony - when would be the best time to bring them indoors without compromising the spikes and blooms? As always, thanks!
