    Terrific video both on Cyc. cooperi needs but also the type of research one can do to understand the species we grow! THANKS!

    Hortus orchis, I just checked them and loved it. How odd, with all the research I make this site never popped up 🙄 It makes me wonder what other gems I am missing. Thank you very much Stephen and a happy sunday ❤️👌

    Great update and discussion Stephen and I have been doing everything perfect for my cooperi but the new growth has outgrown his tent ⛺️ 😀 I am going to have to put a bigger bag on him and I did give it a sip of water yesterday for the first time.....I have to get the growth going good before Feb. ...hahaha

    Great info Stephen.That was a deep dive, but like to see what diff. sp. entails, and already seeing the challenges of trying to grow dis-similar species in a relatively small space...great job!. Re; Schomburgkia do not like temps below 60...ouch...They do not!

    Thank you for sharing this very informative video. Sadly my growing conditions would never be appropriate for them. I have three humidifier’s running but my humidity is only around 40 to 50 percent. They are pretty orchids. 🥰❤️

      @@SVKLOrchids I live in Ohio. It’s cold 🥶 in winter so my furnace runs a lot. Summer is hot and dry. Fall and spring can be rainy then my humidity is much better. I grow my orchids indoors. Never outside.

    Very informative! Thanks for the update! I too have been very curious what causes the bumps. Some years I have them some I don't. Weird. 🤣

    Fantastic video Stephen, with some great insights how to grow these persickety ones. Love your cooperi! 😍 I only have the Cycnodes Wine Delight and decided not to get more due to their challenges. You mentioned the edema, I have quite a few showing plenty of edema after moving them inside to my grow shelf. I was feeling a little embarrassed because I thought in my newness to growing catasetum types and using coco peat this year, that it was from overwatering later in the season. Not the issue though hey? My Wine Delight made a rather stunted growth after the initial leaves remained curled up (before watering commenced) and I left them alone thinking it would sort itself out, but it didn't. I made a few attempts to release the leaves by carefully sliding something thin down along the leaf and it slowly did release, but the plant remained rather stunted in it's growth. It did decided to throw a spike which I've left to develop. This was on a pseudobulb that had been cut last winter to removed rot, so that it had enough humph to produce a spike was surprising to me. We'll see what happens next year. Thanks again Stephen.

      @SVKLOrchids  2 роки тому +1

      I hope that wine delight does better for you next year! Do you think it could be a low humidity issue?

      @@SVKLOrchids Thanks Stephen! I meant to include my humidity in my initial comments. I'd have to say no, because my humidity is between 60-75%, with plenty of air flow with fans.

    Gorgeous blooms, love it! I actually like this one more since the colour is darker! It is interesting that you still left the mother plant horizontally on the pot. Are you going to separate it later this winter?

    • @SVKLOrchids
      @SVKLOrchids  2 роки тому +1

      No, I’ll probably let it continue this way until that horizontal bulb dies. Then I’ll have two plants of this one.

    20:15 "this is jungle" - well, it used to be. As you can see on Google Earth, there is a tremendous amount of deforestation taking place for the purposes of agriculture. Sadly, this is not going to end. I suspect the native habitat of Cycnoches cooperi will be mostly gone by the middle of the century.

    Do you think the bumps can be caused by a lack of humidity? I've seen indoor growers in more northern climates having the same issue while it is something that has never affected my plants in Florida.
    The deforested areas are probably agricultural (not the legal kind).

    • @SVKLOrchids

    Great information. Are all orchids capable of producing male and female flowers, or just this species/genus? Love the color and shape.

    • @SVKLOrchids
      @SVKLOrchids  2 роки тому +1

      No, most orchid blooms are “perfect” in that they have both male and female parts. Only a handful of orchids have such strong sexual dimorphism. Early taxonomists often described new species when looking at the two flower types and were baffled when they later bloomed as something else.
