Lamarck proposed that animals adapted to their environment through the use and disuse of certain features, believing that acquired characteristics could be passed on to offspring. However, subsequent research and evidence, including the discovery of genetic inheritance, have disproven Lamarck's theory, highlighting the complexity of evolutionary processes.
