An excellent question! This is the answer I got from the designer: "you can keep moving at max speed with each additional movement." So it would appear that the last space of the movement track is meant to be able to hold multiple action markers.
Thanks for doing this video, Rodney. I got this game semi-recently and it looked so daunting after opening it, but you make games so much more approachable.
Rodney! Thank you so much for doing a video on this game, as I picked it up at Gencon. I played my first game and all of the players were confused on how to use movement.....now I can teach them !!! Thank you so much! Also, I wanted to say how much of pleasure it was to see you at Gencon, I too, have been a long time watcher and this is only my second comment.....you always do such a great job so I never have to ask questions in order to start playing a new game. Kudos to you, keep up the good work, and I look forward to watching many more in the future!
Well, you might not comment a lot, but when you do, you make it very nice! So glad you've found the videos helpful Christine. Hope you had a great Gen Con :)
I really like the theme and design of this game. Also, a game with lots of counters that comes with trays? How revolutionary! (although it might explain the price tag)
Thanks again Rodney! Was excited to be a small part of another successful crowdfunding campaign for you. Pay day is tomorrow and have this reserved at my FLGS to pick up and will be teaching/playing at our weekly game night. As always this video will make it much easier for me as I forward them out to everyone attending as homework. lol No questions this time but am looking forward to more content from you this year!
Two questions: * Is moving the raider trucks optional? I seem to recall another video saying that it was a required action whenever you land on their corresponding spaces. * What's to prevent you from drawing a faction job from a capital, leave the capital, turn around, come back and get another one with your second outpost action, then wait, next turn, do the same, basically camp that place and discarding the cards that aren't private Priority First Class, rinse repeat and thus just hoard faction jobs until you get all private Priority First Class contracts on your hand?
It's been awhile since I shot this (and it can be tricky, because sometimes I get updated information from the publisher at the time that can contradict what was in the rule book), but the rules are written as if that movement is not optional, from what I can see, looking at it today.
Another great video. You make it look effortless, teaching games! I got Wasteland Express for Christmas and I'm hoping to play it today. Just had to come watch this first ;)
Just a couple of questions! 1. How do the raider trucks move? What are the rules behind their AI? 2. Does the economy/market restart at every round? Thank you! :)
Hey Justine, are you referring to this for Question 1: ua-cam.com/video/eajj-mfvzEA/v-deo.html&t=778 As for the other question, it's been awhile since I shot this one, so I don't recall, but there is an index in the description of the video that might help you locate the section of the video you need. Hope that helps!
My copy is getting delivered today so this video is going to be very helpful in getting this game to the table tonight. Thank you very much for your rules videos they are the best.
Hi Rodney, I have a question. This relates to the faction job you showed at 25:50. If I had a Food Cargo, and delivered it at Dispatch, do I gain Scrap equal to whatever Food is current listed on the market board? OR, do I receive only what is listed under the "Reward" section of the card and ignore whatever Scrap I'd usually make from the delivery?
+Otherspersons Sorry I can’t answer this right now. Currently travelling and not near my copy of the game for a couple weeks. You might find an answer on the forums on Board Game Geek though.
As you are fulfilling the requirements on the card as part of another action, you will still get the benefit of that action. So you would gain scrap equal to what is shown on the market board and then gain the benefit of your Faction Job. The only time you wouldn't gain a benefit is if the card specifically say so, as the card on the left at 26:02 does.
Thank you for your response Pep. I went to BGG forums as Rodney had suggested, and there it seems the consensus that completing a Smuggling run (a faction job with an envelope in the upper right corner) does not gain you any extra Scrap beyond the Reward listed on the card. The reasoning given is that when you complete this type of job, you take an Outpost action instead of a regular Deliver action. And in turn, the delivery does not fulfill the demand, nor do you adjust the market, nor do you place your "Not Welcome" standee on that space. Basically, it seems that because you don't fulfill demand, and you take an Outpost action instead of a Deliver action, you don't get any scrap from doing the actual 'delivery'. You only get Scrap when you fulfill demand, and when doing these types of contracts, the rulebook specifically states that you do not fulfill demand. I searched for an answer from the designers, but unfortunately couldn't find one. If you can get a concise answer, that would be great. Thank you for your time.
Hey Rodney! What mat do you use under the terrain tiles? It looks like it helps them to not move around so much? Mine were pretty rebellious and didn't want to stay in place on our table! I'd love a recommendation on a mat that works! 😊
I shot that long enough ago that my memory is a little fuzzy now. I know it wasn't a playmat, but it was probably some black cloth wrapped around a piece of wood I had :)
At first I thought this game would look so complicated to play! But while watching this tutorial, a lot of it is very similar to Dead of Winter (a game I own!).
Can you choose to evade a raider t position yourself better and then choose to engage combat the same turn, or MUST you decide initially which you will do?
If you enter a space with a Raider during your turn, you are allowed to try to evade it. After movement, you are a allowed to take a second action. That action could be Combat against the Raider you evaded.
For the Faction Contract "Communication Lines," the reward is, "1 trailer + 1 mod + 1 temp mod." Can you choose ANY permanent mod, regardless of price? Can you take a Digger if the Big Dig contract is in play?
I do by best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!
So is the bonus action only used for contracts that say "use a bonus action"? Or, is it kind of like a grande worker in Viticulture where you can copy an already filled location and take the action anyway? Example: You've used all of your outpost action spaces early in the round. Action 4 you don't have much going on so you move to an outpost and stop. Action 5 comes around, could you use the bonus action to take a third outpost action?
The Bonus action is only for actions that require a "Bonus Action" specifically (you can't use it as an extra, bonus wild action). The use of the term "Bonus" here is probably not the greatest, as it sounds like it's an "extra" action. It probably could have been called something like "Quest Action" or "Reserved Action" or something like that.
Watch It Played Yeah I think Special Action would have been a better name if it's only used for certain missions. Thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it
Hi Rodney. Quick question. If I attack a raiders but fail, (thus not moving the token to the pillage spot) can I engage in normal combat again? Or are we límited to 1 combat the entire round regardless of the result.? Thanks in advance
I'm pretty sure the first time we played, someone stored Artifacts on empty slot spaces, not storage, so I was surprised to see that here. It will be fun to give that player a hard time about that next time I see him haha
Hey Rodney, long time lurker and first time poster, how do you feel about the gameplay to time balance of this game? It seems like a meaty one and looks like it has the potential to overstay it's welcome at the table if it's overly prone to action paralysis or players who need to be somewhat constantly engaged.
Hey Jay, this would fall under the category of an opinion, which I avoid in my videos. There is enough variance in how every game group plays, that I wouldn't feel comfortable commenting on this in a general way. I really think the point at which a game has 'overstayed' it's welcome is going to depend on how much the players playing are enjoying their experience. Sorry I couldn't assist on that one, but thanks so much for being a long time viewer! I hope you'll consider commenting more (and I'll try to provide better answers :) ).
Respectably so, I am very interested in it from a components and play standpoint but, I suppose my question was geared in such a way that I might have to try and homebrew solo play into it as many of my fellow players are more Euro or quick card game focused. The game looks fantastic! Second question, I know Gencon is the bee's knees currently, were you thinking of visiting Grandcon in Michigan this year? I try to attend smaller conventions and it would be really neat to bump into you if you were.
I have a question regarding "actions" . Let's say I have all my 5 unused action markers. I use my first for movement and then use a 2nd for movement, I then slide my 2nd movement marker over to delivery; I know I loose that first action marker and it goes to "used". But I still have 3 unused action markers. Can I use those to move again?
Watch It Played , wait I'm confused now lol. In my original comment I asked if I can move , move again to keep momentum then make delivery. That would then end my movement because I made delivery but I have 3 action tokens left. You said I could move again but I comment above you said one movement per turn. So I'm not sure which it is. Haha. Sorry, I'm prolly misinterpreting
Question> Mechanically i understand the "non/welcome token" to avoid using the same trade route and forcing some wandering of the map but thematically? Why suppling a location should make the carachter unwelcome?
They address this in the rule book (but I left it out to save time) - essentially, you bargained so well, and your wheeling and dealing was so aggressive, that the seller is not going to want to sell to you again until he's had some time to cool off a little.
Hey there Akis, I believe this is covered in the video (I'm always happy to help with things that may not be clear, but if the video covers it already, then I have to direct you there - it's too hard or me to remember all the rules across all the games I make videos for). I have an index in the description of the video for you to look up specific rules you might be wondering about.
The rulebook doesn't seem to talk about the specifics of these scraps. But as far as I can tell, they are all types of washers. 1=Flat 2=Square 3=Likely something used in Ikea Furniture
Steve Gale The rulebook includes some lore which states that one of the factions actually mints the coins. A name like "$crap" makes it sound like something salvaged, but it seems it is produced as currency and just resembles washers.
Rodney, Terrific job as usual explaining a complex game. Kudos! This channel has become an addiction and quite dangerous to the wallet :) This game is on sale today at Amazon 58% off.
Maybe you've been missing them? We wrapped up Stuffed Fables play through just before Christmas, and Sagrada in November (and so on). Just make sure you're subscribed and click the "bell" icon if you want to get all notifications about new content on the channel.
If I have taken 3 movement actions without any other type of action previously, since all the numbers are covered, do I have to pass on my next turn?
An excellent question! This is the answer I got from the designer: "you can keep moving at max speed with each additional movement."
So it would appear that the last space of the movement track is meant to be able to hold multiple action markers.
Wish more publishers would make their games with tray when they have so many components. The set up became so easy.
In this game especially. With so many pieces, this makes it so much faster.
Thanks for doing this video, Rodney. I got this game semi-recently and it looked so daunting after opening it, but you make games so much more approachable.

The trayz do a very nice job of keeping everything organized and helping with the setup, to be sure!
A welcome change from game boxes that just end up being full of ziploc baggies if you don't want to spring for third part custom inserts.

Hey Pavel, can't help you there, that's more of a question for the designers.
