I just did it.. an hour ago... I recorded it and as with everything it was one take, no edits and frankly it was both exciting and bloody scary. Video will be up soon as I stop shaking. I have renamed THIS video because it was a bit miss-leading as I didn't actually do the job on this one
I say go for it what can go wrong ? plus you can always go over it with a darker stain, ya never know it may turn out better than you thought. I also have an 80 bought in 84 so mine is a mark 2, still in great nick for its age and packs quite a punch. As for the silencer, i think if memory serves me well is an early Webley one but i could be wrong.
You're bob-on. On every count!! A fellow HW80 owner.. you're right about staining over it if I hate it... and you guess very well on period silencers!!!!
Thank you very much for the video.. Great work on the stock can't wait to see the results. Would love a explanation on the V glide and what they do to it. I am in Canada where there is little known about such things lol.. I have a HW97 that is 17ftp.
Sadly the Venom Lazaglide that I have on my old 80 is no longer available. The piston was entirely re-machined, with some beautiful brazing. It's stroke is shorter and the entire thing runs on PTFE stud/bearings. The cylinder is sleeved too. Because we have a 12ft lb muzzle energy limit, to speed up the lock time would also have increased power., which we can't do. The beauty of the HW80 and 77 was the enormous cylinder but to keep its UK power down the factory used a very slow spring. So Venom shortened piston travel, speeded it up it and reduced swept volume. It's quite a gun.. and is many decades old :)...like me... :(
@@mattscountry363 The reduced cylinder conversions of the 80, started by Venom, continued by Dave Pope's (RIP) son, Steve (RIP) who founded V Mach are some of the sweetest shooting air rifles that you can have. Unfortunately, with Steve's passing a few years, there are no more new V Mach 80's being made...however there are a few other tuners who have taken on the mantle and build similar reduced cylinder conversions.
You can do it! Go for it Matt, looking forward to seeing how it turns out 👍
Still not plucked up the courage!!
Go for it - Weihrauch even produce a special addition - I think it was an HW 77 - in a green stain many moons ago. Keep up the good work

Definitely do it, think it will look well with the grain showing through.
If the grain were more striking, I think you'd be spot on... but it's a very dull piece of beech sadly
Definitely! Do it Matt
I'm building up to it, Roger...!!! Steady as she goes
