Welcome to Matt's Country - Thanks for dropping in. Coffee and tea over on the table. Please bring biscuits next time!
These are my countryside experiences, shooting guides and hunting lessons - shared to help as many people as possible.
UK Fieldsports, pest control, gun knowledge and maintenance, field craft and whatever else I decide one morning to teach.
With respect to the late and very great Oliver Kite, who's Kites Country was a timeless masterpiece, and of course to Jack Hargreaves, the master of one take. Both bright stars of their time. Both dearly missed.
I will attempt to show you good people what I have learned along the way too. Though not with the style, class or skill of those great men.
One of my favourite sayings is that "To be an expert you need to have made every possible error and learned from those mistakes". I make mistakes regularly, and while I'm not an expert yet, I'd like to help you guys with what I learn.

Matt's Country - Feather Sticks for Fire lighting
Matt's Country - Eps 37 Feather Sticks for Fire lighting.
Perhaps you don't need loads of newspaper or firelighters to light a fire. Perhaps the ancient art of Feathersticking will be your new favourite fire lighting skill. Kindling is needed, but how to get it to catch from one match? Well with a sharp knife and a few minutes practice, you can turn some of your kindling into Feather Sticks.
Please give it a try - please tell me how you get on too :)
Thank you all for your support. One take, no edits.
Happy New Year

Matt's Country - Episode 30 What a Spring Powered Air Rifle ( a Springer) looks like inside. This is a Weihrauch HW30 S. The principle is very similar for most spring powered air rifles. The Spring powered airgun has a piston that fits tightly in the cylinder, and is pushed by a spring. Hence.. Springer! The trigger holds the piston back after you cock it. When you squeeze the trigger, the pist...

For droop on my HW90, I use a full length Sportsmatch AOP56 fully adjustable mount. Shimming is not the right way to do it.
Very interesting. I’ve got a synthetic HW30 on pre order and tempted to colour up the stock. A nice camo effect would look good l think. Thank you for your vid and have subscribed. Best wishes. 👍🏻🇬🇧
Hi Matt, Just came across this video so probably resolved by now. I had the same issues with two HW35s. I have a 1988 HW 80 bought new, just fitted a vortek kit and seal. What a huge improvement. Back to the 35 problem. I tried all sorts. A good idea is to get a straight three foot rule, place it on the breach block accurately. This will tell you whether the barrel is out of kilter with the mechanism or the barrel droops. Also if the barrel has ever been changed and the serial no. is not near the manufactured date it may not be accurate. Hope this helps.
I'll give it a go and try not using newspapers. 👍🏻
Which is why the HW77 is the gun that will still be the only thing around except locusts after nuclear war, not the 80…in my probably ignorant opinion!
No, I think you are pretty much right on that. But it's so slow to load when hunting it's nearly useless for second shots. However...it is a cracker :). 77's and Locust
Lovely figuring on that bit of walnut.
thank you and yes..it's very pretty
👌ive just cone across your channel 👍 brilliant thanks very helpful 👌👌👌👌
Well thank you Phil.. I am very glad you 're enjoying it. I hope you stick about :)
Excellent video Mat, I think this will come in extremily useful. Cheeers mate! (P.S. could you do a video on starting a fire without matches/lighter/flint and steel?)
Thanks Fred...glad you enjoyed. But no I am sadly not competent enough to be a flint and steel kinds pyro. I do collect fluff...... and have a dabble occasionally with a spark.. but I'm really not that good!
A dab of thread locker fluid or nail var ish on the threads of the replacement stud will help prevent the stud from becoming loose, through of course the bipod will also help to keep it in place.
I'm not allowed to play with fire, apparently I have issues....
This is true... issues you do have ;)
@mattscountry363 Yes, the two are not mutually exclusive...
Ms. Breeze is just curious to what Daddy is doing.
Hiya Dan :) Yeah actually the Spaniels were just wanting the damn fire lit, and none of the filming it nonsense!!

Was an essential this morning !!
German engineering. Built , then a lil bit more.
I'd not come of an H.W80 springer for a pcp. Respect to those PCP people, but i just love spring guns.😊
Worth owning both though, right?
@mattscountry363 yes. Very much so. I'd love the best of both worlds. Hey, have a lot o good luck.
@mattscountry363 absolutely buddy.
Made a massive school boy error with my hw30, bloody de-cocked it incorrectly.. knocked safety off , pulled trigger and BANG while the barrel was broken..😢 held the barrel and no injuries but now its all grouchy and twangy when its shot😢 and ideas what i could have done to the poor bugger? And what to maybe check for if i open it up?
great video, thanks mate!
Thank you for your kind words
Im from Philippines,im only had this hw100kt here in Philippines
What was the point of removing the barrel in the first place? I see another spring replace without removing it. ?
Very good video well explained. I'm a complete beginner and wasn't sure if fitting a bidod was a case of drilling holes into the stock (something I absolutely wouldn't want to do). Are bipods available which just clamp onto the sides of the stock?
Beautiful gun that mate love it
Thanks...and yes.. really is
At what point did you remove the safety pin and the safety pin spring?
This is the easiest way I’ve ever used. Thanks!
Ah I'm glad someone else found it useful. Now the game season is back in full swing I hoped this video would pop up for a few country people who were prepping game birds :)
Excellent tips - Keep up the good work.
Thank you Steve. Appreciate your kind words

How about we get the lead mold aye how about making our own lead pellets and sell em on the black market. Somthing i heard on the war of the worlds music l.p. lol
Talking sense. I now want to stock pile lead pellets.
I bought a KT s/h which was 6 years old owned it for another 6 years never had a problem, no leaks. Had it tuned by Ratworks, Tench regulator and lightweight cylinder fitted and it made the gun even better. I now also have a 100bp which is also a great gun. I ve owned Daystates and Steyrs and the HW is just as good as them and a good deal cheaper
I have often pondered getting a BP.... it's quite a temptation actually
When putting the spring back in put one of the pins in first instead of the grub screw, then put the grub screw in then remove the pin again so you can get the trigger unit in. Much easier than struggling to to get screw in when trying to compress the spring.

Did the optic creep backwards? In my experience with spring air rifles the recoil moves optics.
Hello JR - good question and no it didn't. But this is quite a low power springer and recoil movement is minimal. On a big springer it might need checking a few times. I used one on the HW80 25 cal and that was OK too, but still UK Sub 12 fl lb
Does Weihrauch manufacture their own Bipod to save the hassle of washers etc.
Good question and no, not to the best of my knowledge. Thanks for asking though!
Totally different approach, but you've inspired me to look into getting the synthetic stock on my Stoeger X20 camo dipped...
If it's a synthetic, you might well be brave and go a for a paint job yourself. If you start with a base green as an example, then pick some leaves from a tree to use as stencils, then spray over them with different shades you might get a good camo pattern. But a dip would be ultra nice and top grade
Thanks for this Matt. Always good to follow someone else stripping a gun for the first time. My 30 is the only gun I havent tuned as yet so stripped it following your video in readiness for a Welsh Willy kit and a set of Britseals.
Well thank you for you kind words, and I'm glad I may have assisted you in some way :) Good luck with your kit fit... would be nice to hear how it goes, so if you have time, please do come back here and tell me :)
do you still use it and is this uk version or fac version?
Hello and thanks for asking. Yes I use it regularly and it's UK Sub 12ft lb.
Recently been researching this issue (no expert) but i came across the 1 piece sports match hop19c mount, pre compensated for barrel droop. Has an arrestor pin also.
@@mattscountry363 Grazie
Hi Matt, what pads did you use to extend the stock? I have the same synthetic one on order which I’m looking forward to getting. My only concern is how long we’ll be able to use lead for. I’ve read the baffles inside the moderator act like a cheese grater with anything other than fibre wad.
Hi Chris - I used the spacers that came with it. Hopefully yours will come with them too!!! Keep me posted...would be really useful for everyone who reads this to know. I'm really not sure about lead free alternative and on this gun so far I have never shot anything other than lead through it. 3" of No 6 :)
@@mattscountry363 thanks for the reply. It’s great that they come with spacers given it’s effectively a low end/budget gun (in the US).
On next weeks show, we'll be looking into how to wear your hat! 😂
now THAT is an idea..... and how to balance biscuits upon the brim!!!
@@mattscountry363 it can only be fig rolls
But the real question is … today’s show was brought which biscuit ?
Now you see... I was sorely tempted to go with Ritz cheese crackers... on account of that boot smelling quite cheesey...but Dignity and Valour...you know....
I never knew I didnt know how to tie my laces....
But you didn't....did ya? Not properly.....not like your ballet shoes... with all the ribbons
I would buy it in a heartbeat, if only it had a 'classic' stock. Too bad I'm oldschool.
The do a more traditional stock for the HW100... and I thought I'd prefer it.. but the Thumbhole has amazed me. It actually does allow more control. It's quite a surprise tbh.
Well explained.
Well thank you for the kind words :)
Well that was simple. Thanks Matt. Much appreciated 👍🏻 #subbed
Thanks for the sub! And glad it was helpful :)
Good morning Matt I have another question for you about my PCP and has something to do with air pressure the recommended air pressure for the gun in the manual says 250 bar. Any place else that it talks about pressure it says 230 bar now my concern is with the FXDRS classic, that’s pretty narrow margins on a small tank what the problem is when I refill this thing in a cool environment the pressure is 230 bar that I go to but it exceeds 250 when I take it out in the heat comment please
Well there are two different cylinders for a DRS. The METAL cylinder is 230BAR max. The CARBON cylinder is 250BAR max. I can't advise on your temp variations though, as I haven't had mine go so high from ambient temperature effects. If it's changing that much, fill it less so it doesn't exceed spec. Safety first, always.
Excellent vid! It has inspired me to have ago at replacing the spring in my HW30. I'm in the UK but it has a German spring so is very low power, about 4fpe. Do you have any reccomendations for a de-greaser?
I use Brake Cleaner . Works a treat and a spray can of it lasts a fair while for basic airgun work
Something I've found useful for reassembling mechanical things is to remember to take plenty of photos as I disassemble them and to be organised with the screws and small parts by keeping them in labelled trays, polythene bags etc. The HW30 is an excellent spring air rifle.
I agree fully and I do exactly that...normally.....but this damn UA-cam stuff needs recording on my mobile and I don't have another camera. So you get to see me make a total fool of myself without photos :) Zip lock bags are good. Magnetic trays make me happy too
I have a FX - DRS - classic why is the shot speeding up as the tank is coming closer to empty
interesting question- how much is the pellet speed increasing?
@@mattscountry363 75 fps
Nice, whats the lowest number shot allowed in UK, can you buy like 00 buck?
Yes, though we call those "SG" shot. However...no use in a 410 ! But for a 12b, ...yes
