This is exactly the wagon I need for my new 1960s layout, so glad I watched this, just the inspiration needed 👍

Good to see you back on the work bench! Looking forward to all the delights the future holds.
Re the colours, having watched all your stuff it all looks good, blends in to each other nicely and that is probably the most important thing is creating a cohesive look to the whole train and layout more broadly. We are our own worse critics

Glad to see you didn't pull an IC82 on us and leave, you both been uploading for the same amount of time and one left for two years and as of now not returned, and the other despite having millions of jobs to do still give us content...
Clearly this shows the better person here
Keep at it and remember, enjoy the hobby and spend as much money as possible

Good job, i think your freight cars look exceptionally realistic, i am from the USA ,not highly familiar with UK or European rail equipment but i enjoyed watching videos of model railroading all around the world. Like you well said art is objective.

Great video thank you. After watching the video I did five bachmann models the same way. They made a great addition to the layout.

Good to see you back at the bench old chap 😎 good way to ease back Into it - and yes - I completely understand what it's like having that pile of shame of projects... So far fine Includes:
    Weathering 4 Megafret wagons
Weathering the rest of my pc wagons
Finishing the hard standing on my engineering sidings...
    Grass, grass, grass... Etc
    The list continues 😬😬
    Any road, welcome back!

Good video and bob on with the wood colour and weathering, when many people try to model wood they end up with a colour like my Mum’s old walnut sideboard.

Years ago I had the same ideas about wood colour!
I've learnt as much as anyone else via the Medium of UA-cam 👍

Morning Mr train Man. A much needed wagon building video 👍🏻 I must of missed this one while I was on holiday in Spain 🇪🇸 🤣 Hopefully your mojo is back and you can start on the new layout again with some videos 🤩

Got a few days off so hoping to have something new to upload soon 👍👍👍👍👍

Have you ever tried spru cutters (as I see your using a Stanley knife to cut the plastic pieces off the sprus). I thought I would never use them and the cost of buying them put me off but in reality I use them all of the time now. I just thought you may find this helpful.
Great video thank you very much. I really enjoy your videos as they help keep me motivated. Not to many British Railway modellers in Western Canada.
    All the best, Richard.

I use the Stanley Knife as a general purpose tool all the time. The only time I use something else when it doesn't fit! 😂
I have other tools but prefer the BIG knife. Personal preference 👍

Do any English freight wagons have trucks for the wheels? I enjoyed watching you build these wagons--we would call them gondolas, as you likely know.

    • @Samstrainsofficially
      @Samstrainsofficially 2 роки тому

We would call such a thing a bogie wagon, bogie bolster... search those terms and you'll find many examples of british wagons with trucks

    • @jamescraft672
      @jamescraft672 2 роки тому

@@Samstrainsofficially Thanks. I'm not surprised, but most of the model wagons I've seen on videos are short, without bogies. I love the differences between British and American jargon.

@@jamescraft672 there's a whole world of it, brake vans, cabooses to you can be toads due to the telegraphic code send between staff, you get wagons with all sorts of fun names like crocodiles, loriats, ballast wagons with names of fish for some reason dog fish, salmon etc. Vans called minks, siphons etc.
There's probably more than a few videos someone could produce just covering names of wagons and naming practices.
Suspect a lot of it comes from the level of variety and making it easy to identify them, rather than needing to know them just by numbering sequences you can know by name and then narrow down by number to find the wagons you need in a train. That would be a neat way to explain why it turned out that way

Another great video. Just a heads up - it's not white paint in your varnish, it's chalk. All paint (including varnish) starts of as gloss, to make it satin or matt, chalk is added. What's happened to your varnish is that previously it's possiibly not been mixed throroughly enough and you've now ended up with too high a density of chalk in the vanish that is left in the pot. This means when the varnish dries out there is too much chalk and you end up with a white crust. You can see this as it's built up in the deeper recesses and angles of the model where the varnish has run and is thicker. You don't get this with paint as the pigment hides the chalk, but you do get really thick gloopy paint. I also found out the hard way many year ago.......

Excellent video, I have bought one of these to try and want to build half a dozen or so without the bar. Am I right in thinking there were loads of these up to the 80s or was a different wagon?
I'm Russ by the way, Matt Smiths mate Stowmarket driver check out my layout channel if you are interested some weathered minerals using techniques I've got from your channel
    Cheers

These wagons finished in revenue earning service in the early 80’s. Coil traffic in the late 70’s. Many remained in departmental use, carrying sleepers track parts and concrete troughing into the 90’s
I’m sure we’ve passed each other somewhere 😅 will have a look at the channel too 👍
