Thank you FRANCE 24 for showing us about Somaliland. Many people confuse Somaliland with Somalia. Somaliland was british protectorate while Somalia was Italian protectorate. Somaliland got its independence in June 26 1960 while Somalia got its July 1 1960 and they agreed to make what was called Somalia Republic but after people of Somaliland experienced unjust system and a long inhumane genocide done by Somalia regime, Somaliland broke-away from the war torn Somalia in 1991 and Somalilanders built their destroyed country back from zero without any support from outside and in 27 years they are enjoying peace and prosperity while Somalia is failed state and not functioning even with the support of outside world with 20000 troops from different African countries in Somalia. Somaliland has its currency, its anthem, its flag, its passport, their leaders are democratically elected leaders ( parliament, president and vice president). But still the world hasn’t recognized Somaliland as a country and they don’t have a seat in the United Nations even though they fulfilled all requirements for an independent country which is unjust. Somaliland locates in an alarming region which needs the outside world to give attention and to work with Somaliland. Thanks again FRANCE 24.
But u do forget that Somalis didnt just join eachother on the 1st July 1960. NO way that never happens in history when people have to fight for their indepence. The struggle was long and it began diplomaticlly since 1943 with the SYL.
This women skips a lot of important details…..that more than half the territory she claims “Somaliland” owns want nothing to do with them. Sool & Sanaag residents want nothing to do with “Somaliland”. It is literally one clan (Isaaq) that wants their own country and subjugate every one else.
