My grandfhater was part of those 44 argentinians killed in action at Mt. Longdon serving in 1st platoon. He was drafted by the government, leaving my dad of 12 years old without a father.
My dad spoke finally last year with one commrade rifleman of my grandfather, spoking what he saw of my grandfather death during the battle: killed by artillery strikes.
Really sorry for dad and my grandmother... she never marry again.

A ver..

Great video. I was a 19 year old RAMC medic training in Aldershot when this all kicked off.

Absolutely speechless and in awe the whole way through this. I usually pause stuff to research a place, date, event etc. but in these guys manner of speaking it's all laid on. Jack Higgins described Paratroopers of all countries as having 'a kind of arrogant self-sufficiency' and you certainly get that impression from these men. Simply the best soldiers in the world. Any Ex Paras reading this, I hope you are safe, as secure and happy as you can be and I wish you long years.

Psychological trauma sets in during sleep after such an experience. To shed it, it is essential to have a long, thorough shake, physically - you'll find details in Peter Levine, Waking the Tiger. We now know how to shed the reflex reaction causing PTSD if that doesn't happen, we don't know how to shed the trigger, though.
Personally, I passed out top of the 1978 TAVR Platoon Commanders Course at the School of Infantry, so I'm very sympathetic to the views of the fog of war reported. I'd actually been attached to the Battalion at Osnabrook for a couple of weeks just beforehand, arriving during the bare-arms stand-to, and was privileged to be allowed to shed my crap-hat during the border patrol which followed - someone must have liked our style in dumping our civvies in the Mess hallway and joining you lads, from our side, if the Russians are coming, what better company to ride to Valhalla alongside? Technically, casevac management was part of the Platoon Sergeant's job, alongside replenishing ammunition, feeding and watering, and general management of the Toms - the Boss is involved in getting the next attack planned.
At a higher level (I ended up a civvy filling a Staff Colonel slot on the WEU Crisis Management team for 20 years) you will get priority treatment asap - which means once the objective has been reached. Here, the section was hopefully 2 subsections, 8 riflemen and a 3-man Gun Group, the rifles in 2x 4-man groups, each of 2 2-man buddy teams as described. It was impossible to stop the covering rifleman going to help his buddy, so covering them was the duty of the other 2-man team. Yes, that's a third of your section gone instantly, but that phase of the battle is generally quite short - the hours mentioned was a product of the extra onus of a far larger battle than expected. Personally, I'd probably have used POWs to do the humping, under the vengeful eye of the casualty's buddy.

Got any more like this? Very interesting to watch. I'd particularly be interested in a AAR from Rick Joly

These guys are really something. What they all went through we will never know. I know some of the soldiers experienced PTSD after the war.

They did not show this on The BBC . what comes across to me is the importance of" Reece intelligence" and the lack of Medics for a company strength , it was only that "The Toms" Had basic First Aid knowledge that they did not lose more Men ! !

This was only a platoon, not a company report. 1 medic for a platoon was unusual back then, they usually did not have medics with the platoons but set up an aid post at company level.

Roy Brookes: It's not really designed for mass consumption...too much military spk for civvies to understand it. Without the Paras the Argies may have held their ground far longer.
