Thank you for sharing . Every time I hear this it stirs emotions that I can’t explain . It goes deep . The synchronisation of the two of them together dancing is superb . It’s like they were one . I normally view the video as a whole..watching her face etc but this time I looked more at their muscle and movement they blended together even tho apart . Excellent.

I’m so glad you are getting into peak Kate Bush years! This album’s second side is a suite of songs called “The Ninth Wave “ it’s one of the most powerful listening experiences you’ll have, I hope you get to listen to it. It’s about a girl swept overboard and lost at sea....

I loved this song as a kid. I was 13 in 1985. I was thrilled it had a second life and reached #1 am over the world. She is a Legend. Her Discography is amazing. She writes and produces her own music.

The Drama, the Atmosphere, the drone of the one chord floating through this entire song . . . one of my most favourite songs of all time. It puts you in a place and a time and a mood.

Kate Bush was and is anavant-garde artist. This song was her most commercial, it played on the dancefloors, with the higher volume bits, I love her music so much and her statements....

True Story: Kate wanted to call the song “A Deal With God”, but was talked out of it by her label. They thought people would expect a religious song.

Kate Bush is not your typical songstress...powerful voice, somewhat elusive. She goes her own way. My favorite Kate Bush song is "This Woman's Work". Her voice in this can give you chill bumps. Maxwell does a worthy cover of "This Woman's Work". His falsetto is something to behold.

A true original - a musical genius. By the time Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour discovered her at the age of 15, Kate had already written over 250 songs. A brilliant and innovative composer, lyricist, singer (with a 4-octave voice), pianist, dancer, mime, choreographer, record producer, video producer & director - she even helped develop the first cordless headset microphone she used on tour. Hugely influential, Kate was one of the first female musicians to take total production and artistic control over her work. She’s been a real pioneer for women in the music industry for the last 40 years. First woman to have a #1 self-written song in the UK charts. First woman to have an album debut at #1 (her third lp, “Never For Ever”). She has had 25 Top 40 singles, 10 albums on the Top 10 Albums Charts, nominated 13 times for British Phonographic Industry awards and 3 Grammy awards, an Ivor Novella Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, and appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 for her honored services to music. Not to mention she's one of the most respected artists and producers in the music industry. In 2014 she returned to the stage and sold out over 100,000 tickets in less than 15 minutes (a record for the Hammersmith Apollo). Her 22 performances were highly acclaimed and she became the first woman to have 8 albums in the top 40 charts at the same time (third behind only Elvis and The Beatles).

Some context for you Kate Bush , was first writing music & songs by around the age of 11, with her brothers. One of whom , knew a friend of Dave Gilmore from Pink Floyd
He met Kate when she was around 17 years old , and after hearing some of the 100 or so songs she had written by that time!!. He took her to a recording studio to professionally record some demo tracks.
One of those tracks was Wuthering Heights , which she released as her very first single.
It was the first song , written by a female artist to hit #1 on the UK charts.
In 1978 Kate released two incredible albums
    The Kick Inside & Lionheart
She then followed up in 1980 with her third album Never Forever ... this is where Kate's work really started to develop into her unique sound.
Whilst her first two albums are classics & are both excellent. They were very much a more traditional sound (apart from Kate's voice of course!)
With Never forever, Kate started to experiment with snyths and sequencers particularly a snyth called a Fairlight , which Peter Gabriel had been using alot.
It enabled Kate's imaginaton to run wild!
    The next two albums
The Dreaming & Hounds of Love , are brilliant examples of Kate's genius! She hears melody and atmospheres in such a unique way.
Many fans were disappointed with The Dreaming, as they felt it was way too strange! But I adore that album....
She took another 4 years to make an album.
But with 1989's The Sensual World. Kate showed a more personal & mature sound. For me it's her most complete album to date . Whilst its not as experimental as The Dreaming or Hounds of Love , it is a sublime and gorgeus record. Theres still some strange stuff in there too. But mostly its a very seductive record....
There's much more to say about Kate Bush ...but mostly , she is unique & extremely brilliant!

Kate is one of my favourites. She's written some of the most original music ever. She definitely is in a category on her own. She wasn't aiming for "hits", and no matter how weird her music, she got a lot of radio play in the 80's. Please, listen to Rocket's Tail from the Sensual World. If it doesn't bring tears to your eyes I'll be surprised!

  • @markjohnson4217

She was signed when she was 16 years old. EMI gave her 100% creative control as part of the contractual agreement!!! In 1977, 78, in the UK, there were no women who exclusively wrote originals, none who had written a number one charted single and none who produced themselves as she did starting in 1982. She had written 200 songs by the age of sixteen, she won a British Award for best song lyrics for a song she penned when she was 11 years old!!
    Everything about her is bewildering!!
