Did you put a clear coat back on or just leave with single stage paint? How is it holding up to temp and sunlight? I worry about pealing is why asking..
For any of us that drive old vehicles .... we just try to keep them looking good ....... a lot of us can't afford the vehicles we want and we certainly can't afford being raped at body shops and mechanical shops to have work done .... I have worked 40 plus years in the automotive industry in Toronto and the GTA and have learned enough to order parts and do it myself .... Cheers to backyardmech for doing and being just that ....
No way I could tolerate all the wire brushing, spraying, wiping, chipping and sanding. A heftier sandblaster, (with good flow at 125 psi), and the wheels would be ready for prime/paint way quicker and easier. And tires do fine with a sandblaster with a bit of care. Tape off the tires with wide masking tape, prime and paint and you're done.
heads up, brake pads don’t contain asbestos anymore
My "REAL BUDGET" starts at Dollar Tree...Sturdy brush, putty knife, oil drain pan (today it's my wash bucket), bottle of Dawn, box of SOS pads, bag of Sponges, masking tape and box of Whoppers or Raisinets ($8) Go to Walmart...2 spray cans of 2X Rust-o-leum silver metallic furniture paint. ($9) Rustoleum is my primer.
next time take the wheel weight off first
Alrighty so I used a wire brush and Limeaway (calcium lime and rust) on my rusty wheels… they looked brand new in about 3 mins each
You said on a budget. How many people own or have a sand blaster in their garage?
A garbage bag works a bit better for covering your tires, just FYI
That rust paint can lid needs some rust paint as well
Asbestos was phased out of production back in the 90's from brakes and all stock was ordered purged then also.
I want one of those sandblasters now. Etching primer helps to hide imperfections. Its my go to.
Great Job.Very helpful
