    Thank you!! I was playing pressure passing all through blue belt and now I’m heading back to speed passing at purple so this video really helped me.

    Great video as always! Could you please make a video about passing lapel guards, how you attacks a lapel player etc? It would be great because there are a lot of videos about lapel sweeps etc but not many on how to pass, how to apprehend this type of guards. Thx

    Jon, excellent video as always. This is a topic I’ve studied extensively and still never thought about leg height dictating the pass.
    Would you be willing to do a video on hand/finger care? My fingers are annihilated from spider and collar sleeve and I’m only a blue belt. Would love to use a lot of your guard material but my fingers hurt all the time. It can be tough to even finish a collar choke because of it

      Yeah I can definitely do a video on this it’s a super common question and there is a lot of different aspects to it, conditioning, joint strength technique, and training habits, I will definitely do something on it soon thanks!

    Could you do a video on how and when to take the back when your playing on top. Also how to keep control of it

    Another great video that puts a lot missing pieces of the passing puzzle together for me. How do you approach passing people that are sitting up with their feet on the ground without giving up grips? Thanks!

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  5 років тому +1

      Andrew Charipar realistically there are some good options you can try but most of the time a good guard guy will get some grips before you pass, so it’s easier to try to force him to play a guard you prefer to pass rather than avoiding all guards together. So if he plays de la Riva well approach with more toreando and hips back if he plays spider well keep your arms away and enter with your legs first more it’s hard to explain through text hope that helps.

    Awesome man, what do you think of the concept of making the knee cut more of a pressure pass? Cooking them until they give the pass? And mixing both speed pass knee cuts with pressure? I'm starting to think that I like to do more speed type knee cuts at the beginning of a fight to tire them out then nearing the end of I haven't passed yet going to more of a pressure style knee cut where you pressure to get into good position to finish

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  5 років тому +1

      KingsSVR yeah you can definitely cook people with the knee cut realistically I don’t buy into the idea of pressure vs movement passes there are just different passes and they all function differently. People have a tendency to want to put things in boxes but it’s not really a useful way to look at things in Jiu Jitsu in my opinion

    What are the benefits of a shallow lasso vs a deep lasso?

    Not so far as asking you for a video since that would be too big a thing to ask for. But could you give me a suggestion to pass inverted guard? I have no idea how to start passing inverted guard.

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  5 років тому +1

      Bunny Azorth By inverted guard you mean they are inverted with their feet facing you and no grips? Or you mean reverse dlr?

    • @bunnyazorth945
      @bunnyazorth945 5 років тому

      @@JonThomasBJJ Sorry for not being precise earlier. I meant inverted with their feet facing me and no grips. Also, I feel it's even harder in nogi where I got less grip compared to gi, but it's another thing, right?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  5 років тому

      Bunny Azorth can do a video on passing inverted guard for sure it’s a common question

    • @bunnyazorth945

      @oki doki Get out of here with that inverted shit. Nobody wants to play with guys like you. Joking aside, I don't see many people play inverted guard at high level making me wonder if it's easy to deal with and I just suck

    Sensei, I love the pass where you push their legs all the way up until it reaches on the mats, then placing the knees at the back to prevent them from getting back their lower back on the mats (the only difference is I start at double under position). But lately I'm having a problem dealing with them as they start using their shoulder to move away (like shrimping away with the shoulder) and then take the advantage of slight scramble to recover their guard. I always end up being on the double under pass position again. And it's a pain doing it again and again as it tires me out really fast. Do you have a suggestion on how to prevent them from moving away? By the way, when I do the double under pass, I'm grabbing the belt/pants on my partner's hips and kinda lift them up as I stand on my toes to make the same effect as pushing their legs all the way up.

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  5 років тому

      Lou Lamperouge multiple ways of dealing with this problem, but I feel if you developed a strong toreando and knee cut people would start lifting their legs more to avoid it and expose the double under way more
      Often

      im a bigger guy in my gym... but i feel the knee cut is one of those passes that can be high pressure or high speed ... it a versatile pass.
      but im only a purple belt... so im open to be taught

    Don't do this to a training partner unless you know they are super flexible, it's a herniated or bulging disc in the neck waiting to happen, if not that time, eventually with wear it will happen and recovery time is really long with possible surgery.
