No one covers fundamentals better than you, Jon
Thanks so much, these big principles make such a huge difference!
When I got my blue belt recently, I openly thank Jon for all the great videos he put out on BJJ fanatics FB page.
You going to do a passing instructional? @@JonThomasBJJ
Holy crap professor, I can't tell you how much I love your channel. I've paid for instructionals no where near this good.
Thanks so much! Put a lot of effort into these!
My guard passing, as well as when I’m playing guard, has drastically improved thanks to your videos.
Thanks so much buddy means a lot to know it has made a difference!
best gi videos on youtube.
Thank you for making the complicated simple to remember and systematize
This video just blew my mind whenever I would roll I wouldn’t take the flattening out the shoulders into consideration
Yeah once you understand that idea it makes so many things intuitive
@@JonThomasBJJ yeah I would say so do you think you can make more videos on open guard
Love these videos! I really like that you tackle the fundamentals to address different situations instead of just teaching one movement. I find that a lot of BJJ youtubers tend to teach a single movement and don't address any sort of counter movement which makes it hard to apply in live rolling. Thank you!
Yeah that’s something I learned after in my career the big principles when you can find them make all things come together naturally.
Jon, you seriously do a great job explaining and breaking down the process. Thank you.
Thank you means a lot! Put a lot of work into these videos!
Jon! This is another fantastic video. So many great ideas expertly delivered 👏👏👏
Thank so much Ryan!! Bit of a niche topic but I felt it was important. Happy you liked it
Recently moved back to Gothenburg and was going to pick up training after a decade away… A pleasant surprise you teach at my old academy. This is a nice step to jump starting my bjj brain. Let’s hope there are some room in the classes!
Oh that’s great! It’s a wonderful city! Of course you are welcome in class just message me on IG and let me know we will make sure you get in to the class
Great content as always!
The detail in insane. Thank you !!
Thank you Jon , much appreciated
No problem happy to help!
this is gold, tks professor
Super useful
Thank you, Jon. I'm a blue belt and just had a big aha moment related to this. I rolled yesterday with a brown belt and he was giving me side control, north south, kimura, whatever I wanted, and a few seconds later he armbars me. I thought I was in a good position but I guess I wasn't pinning. He was monitoring exactly what he needed to allow himself to move. So I retract my endorsement of "position before submission" and declare my allegiance to "pin to win". There are too many in-between-positions and I can get to a position but not be in control. So I don't want to base my game around getting to a position. I'll focus on what I can pin and progressively try to pin more.
Yeah sometimes these core principles make you have a huge aha moment and changes so much in your game!
I love the video a lot! And I am not training BJJ but Judo and still can learn so much from it. Thank you!
Incredible video, Jon. So many immediately useful concepts I can't wait to try! He's done it again! 😂❤
Thanks so much will for all the support
Super helpful concepts. Thank you so much for this.
No problem happy you liked it! It’s hugely important!
Thank you!
Happy to help’
Nice
Hey, Jon. What about visualizing your steps. When passing guard and thinking about what to do next. That’s where I struggle.
Great video! So much info and great mix with the sparring and competition footage!!
Thank a lot! Always working on evolving the content!
I would love to see some standing up tips because personally I'm shorter and sometimes not as strong as the others so I tend to get thrown around, and I would love to prevent that 😁
That was awesome Jon, especially for us 140lbs guys!! ❤
Yeah for small people these details matter so much!
This was excellent! Thanks Jon!
No problem thanks so much for the support!
Amazing content as always Jon, great overview 😊. As far as ideas for videos, the natural one is defending side control north south (I definitely struggle more with those than mount or back)
Another great explainer. Thank you!
Means a lot thank you!
Great video!
Thank you so much!
Awesome fundamentals and concepts as always! You're one of my favorite channels. Thanks for all your videos!
Thank so you much, these simple core principles are so critical but not so obvious until you learn them
thank u
very helpful
Happy to help!
Excellent explanations here, as always! Fantastic video, Jon!
Thank you so much!
Thanks
Hey thank you so much for the support it means a ton! Hope all the content has made a big difference for you!
Hi Professor! I recently started BJJ and these instructionals have been an invaluable learning tool. The principle based approach helps so much. Thank you!
Do you have any instructional videos on getting out of an opponents full guard?
A tip which may be hard to visualize lol but I'll try is to when in gi grab the other persons belt or pants and post on that then move one of your knees into the center of their but and post the other leg out and push away from them until their guard slips then you have openings to pass guard 😁, hope that helps

Ok Jon 😅 I’m officially looking into your instructionals! Based out of Oslo… have u any plans to visit ?

I don't have time now but let me tell you that this miniature is hilarious!
Hahah it was a fun one! I like it a lot!
my man, your a genius
Thanks for the support
Wow grabbing the Gi and pulling them into in side control, why didn't i think of that?
Hey Jon, I have a question. How do you make the transition from gi to no gi? And what part of your game changes/is removed?
Hi coach, does your advice change at all for smaller individuals? When viewing your technique in side control, you seem so far over to the far side that I imagine a guy like me would almost 100% get "big boy" rolled. Thank you again for the amazing content!
I weigh 68 kilos or 150 lbs and I use it on 100 kilo people all the time. It’s actually much harder to roll you when you are far over them because you can just post on the mat. You usually get rolled from being too tight and riding in your arm controls trying to cross face, if you have chest pressure you will have more free arms to prevent from getting rolled.
@@JonThomasBJJ Thank you coach, look forward to trying to smash big guys. =D

Escaping bottom side control or north south
Gonna do a video related on it soon. I have some side escape videos already worth checking out too
Great videos, great hair. A man bun. however, might clear the view on much needed details. :)
And just as I wrote this, the hair is out of the way. Thank you for that.
Haha absolutely a huge help. Also gonna cut it a bit shorter soon
Yousef with his famous invisible belt 🤣
Hahah no one knows his true belt

Please make a no gi content.
The “like so” virus is spreading
Haha I think I started saying it because of Andris Brunovskis
