Not sure what would stop anyone from doing REHIT on many types of quality cardio equipment. I use my Echo bike for a similar workout (for a third of the price and no subscription fees to boot). If I wanted subscription fees I would join a gym. Always love your reviews and insights Coop, but I think pricing and value proposition should have more weight in your scoring system. Just my two cents.

It's designed for people who need external structure
For someone who as you say can do it on your own, it's not needed, but for another person it may be just what they need

    • @Orpheus_03

@@avinashtyagi2 Not sure what you mean by external structure, but my Echo bike has structure built in as well, including pre-programmed template workouts, and audible beeps for when you need to go hard, etc. But my comment was just a suggestion that price/value should be weighted more than other aspects in his scoring system. I think Coop naturally does that kind of assessment on most equipment he reviews, but for this particular piece of equipment I'm not seeing that consideration. Thus, my suggestion was to hard-code the price/value score so that it holds more weight in his scoring system and thus has more bearing in the final "Coop score." Again, it was just a thought.

Without having read the research (and let’s be honest, I wouldn’t be able to interpret it properly), I’m skeptical, it seems almost a bit “6 minute abs” - is it burning the same amount of calories as a 45 min job or just has the same cardiovascular fitness benefits as said jog? Because with how sedentary people are, they probably need the straight up caloric expenditure in their life.

Hey Hudson, our co-founder Ulrich Dempfle answered this exact question on Dave Asprey's podcast recently - it's very difficult to imitate REHIT on a regular bike and this is why.
For REHIT, you must exercise at your maximum level, which requires application of precisely the right resistance, personalized for your capabilities (which is higher than most people assume). CAROL's computer-controlled brake system applies the resistance fully automatically, at the right speed and the right time, in a fraction of a second. In academic research, a lab technician using specialized equipment ensures that riders are performing REHIT according to these requirements, but in real life it was impossible to achieve before CAROL.

@@theCAROLbike so you are basicly saying that you can only archive the precice result you are looking for by applying the precice inputs in the correct order?
but what about the range of results that are acceptable? i am 100% certain that you can archive 95% of the same result with most high watt exercise bikes.
whats left? paying around 2500 bucks + a sub for 5% of the results, or 0,4 additional weeks of training before archiving the promised 12% increase in vo2 max? 0,4 additional weeks translates to 16 additional minutes of effort for the same result.
so you are implying that it would be wise to spend 2,5k to safe 16 minutes?
my time is not worth that much.

Sooooooo Carol is saying we just need to do two 20 second all out bursts on our Assault/Echo/ Airdynes with some rest in between? Sweet that’s a lot less grueling work than the 50 kcal for time or the 3-8 20 second all out bursts than i’ve been doing on my fan bike. I’ll be more likely to hop on for 2 bursts than I would for more work. I only end up getting on mine about once a week. I swear I get a little PTSD just looking at my Airdyne, lol I try to avert my eyes from it most of the time I’m using other equipment. Nothing gets you panting harder than an fan bike HIIT workout. I wish Coop had put out his thoughts on if he finds the fan bikes are more exhausting than the Carol sprints. The fan bikes get your arms/upper body more involved than the Carol it looks like.

@@bmp713 I'm coming up with an equipment wishlist/budget for a future gym endeavor. I don't want to spend so much that I fill a class with these, but having several in the cardio area would be tops! The resistance is super consistent and there were lots of resistance options (unlike an echo bike which has 1 option). I def felt a major pump in my quads, which is what I'd usually want before starting a lower body workout, with no stress on the knees. I'd probably want to swap the saddle though as a personal preference.

I had one of those seats and it caused uncomfortable inner thigh rubbing and because its so soft it caused my nads to go numb. solution bought 2 new seats, first one being too narrow (had to learn about the sit down bones).

I do not believe that doing a ten ish minute workout is "just as beneficial as a 45 minute jog." You won't burn the same amount of calories, that's a fact. I don't think you would build as much muscle endurance either. It would be reasonable to think that you would just get better at sprinting and performing high intensity movements, which is good, but does not compare to steady state cardio. Just my two cents.

Hey there! The CAROL bike measures each rider’s maximum intensity based on their fitness level and prior performance on the bike, so it will push you as hard as you can ride. REHIT was developed in the lab, studied by scientists, and perfected by CAROL for use by anyone at home. We’ve collaborated directly with Vollaard and Metcalfe to make sure CAROL makes REHIT accessible to everyone.

hiit workouts are overrated. Multiple studies have shown that although you burn more calories in a length of time, you tend to exhaust yourself and coast or burn less throughout the so it ends up balancing out often enough. Also, if you are training to build muscle, it may impede your bodies ability to recover for at least leg training. Although i think it's great to get that heart rate up regularly for health reasons, I just don't Hiit should be treated like the best thing since sliced bread. I would also say, if fat loss was the goal, and one was currently quite out of shape to begin with. I'd say stay away from it and stick with better food and steady state cardio for best results. This thing looks cool but monthly subscription is a little out of line. That's like video games with a pay to win system or micro-transactions within the game. the whole point of home gyms are to get away from fees.

    Exercise is medicine
Once people recognize that, it’s easy to understand why dose is so critical.
The data is clear on short bursts of 100% effort.
The most common comment here is, “but I can do that on my own.” Ask yourself an honest question. Are you doing it?
    If so, great.
99.9% of you aren’t, even if you think you are.
This device could fundamentally change medicine if used properly and by the masses. Kudos to Carol.
