In Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light-and life-to the streets of London.
“Mary Poppins Returns” is directed by Rob Marshall. The screenplay is by David Magee and the screen story is by Magee & Rob Marshall & John DeLuca based upon the Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers. The producers are John DeLuca, p.g.a., Rob Marshall, p.g.a. and Marc Platt, p.g.a. with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer. The music score is by Marc Shaiman and the film features all new original songs with music by Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. The film also stars Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks; Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks; Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and introducing Joel Dawson as the Banks’ children, with Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins; and Meryl Streep as Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy. Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the PL Travers books and Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes, Jr., the retired chairman of the bank now run by Firth’s character.

Mary Poppins is not only "practically perfect in every way", she's also painfully aware of it...and bristles at the notion that anyone would deem her otherwise. She'd generally be deemed egotistical, and yet manages to make her stances fun.

I used to watch the original Mary Poppins as a kid and I’m actually quite excited to see what they have in store for the new one I love that they are bringing back the original 2d animation with the live action since not a lot of movies do that now in days
I dunno if I can name one in 20 years that has.

Syauqi Abdurrahman she was absolutely stunning in this movie and she improved so much since her first musical. Really appreciate it. Let’s not forget Julie got her Oscar for the role of Mary Poppins as well, which would be fantastic for Emily, she really deserves it. She’s amazing.

People say Julie Andrews was the perfect choice for Mary Poppins, and at the time, she was. But it seems like Emily Blunt has made this take on the classic character her own. I can’t wait to see it.

That's becsuse Emily's is more book Mary than taking on the Julie's version.

Agreed, I rather have a soft reboot/sequel then a "live action" remake. Which now it doesn't even matter since they are remaking Lion King with CGI, which what the hell is the point, it's still a freaking cartoon.

I’m so excited to see this movie! I know Emily is doing her own Mary Poppins, and not trying to make a shot for shot exact recreation of Julie Andrews, but I loved how Julie’s Mary could be strict, but was also very joyful, While Emily seems really uptight, and isn’t smiling at all. I liked Mary when she was a little softer, and didn’t have to have such a neutral face.
The movie has a darker tone, so it only follows the lead character should be more serious.
Not to mention, Blunt also read the original books by Travers! Her version of Mary Poppins in this film is a lot closer to the original than how Andrews portrayed the role in the 1964 film.

Watching Mary Poppins Returns reminded me of my childhood, when, as a kid, I was bewitched by the music, the songs, the musical numbers and the characters of the original Mary Poppins! This new movie made me go back to that time, to that feeling and that for me is an incredible achievement! Thank you so much!!!
