This series has been far more interesting than I expected, and if you also like Jesse and his takes on things then it's definitely not to be missed.
Absolute fantastic miniseries. I come back to it every couple years and it is always entertaining
Looking always great!
Take care, and all the best!
Federalism: "Justice and the Rule of Law are to be ABOVE politics." -- John Adams.
John Adams was the only Founder who was absolutely opposed to slavery. Franklin made the claim but was willing to compromise. See "1776".
Oh neat. So slavery went away when Adams was President, then?
Love the podcast
Hate the podcast.
@@malcolmjelani3588Who cares?
The Constitution IS NOT "too hard to change". Only those who know nothing about it, over against the constant threat to the rule of law of politics and hyped up political violence. And that is the argument also used by right-wingers against the "Liberal" civil rights period of the Supreme Court.
What?
Jefferson was able to study silence, and read and write in his leisure, because his slaves did all the real work.
Adams was well aware of his vanity. He also categorized "jealousy" -- a face of which is vanity -- as the incurable human flaw, on which he based separation f powers as a constitutional fundamental. See Massachusetts constitution, which he wrote.
Franklin and Jefferson weren't going to go to England -- because they were having too good a time partying in France.
But note: John Adams lead the movement for independence from Britain -- then negotiated the peace with Britain.
John Adams should be on Mount Rushmore -- remove slave-owner Jefferson.
Adams had a stunningly productive career of service to the country without the self-interest.
This stuff is better than Sominex.
IIn "176" Franklin characterized the Royal Governor of New Jersey -- one of his sons -- as a "bastard".
In actual history Bostonians were not sexual "Puritans" as depicted in myth. In Boston were three hills -- "Trimount"' "Tremont Street". On the first map one of them was discretely named, "Hordam" -- the non-discrete word, "Woredom". Boston was a seafaring town, and that hill was where the whorehouses were located, ostensibly for "visiting" sailors to "come in".
At the bottom of that hill was "Scollay Square" where the burlesque theaters -- strip-shows and vaudeville -- were later located.
And see "1776" in which during the song about who would write the "Declaration," Adams says, "I too burn!" -- to which Jefferson (who wants to go home and get laid) reacts with surprise.
Wasn't Martha Jefferson dead by this time? And Deborah Franklin died 10 years ago so Frankling was a widower.
Yeah, Jefferson, as a phony "populist," was "perfect" for partying with the ultra-decadent French aristocracy.
John Adams helped get ships from France by, intentionally or not, being the "bad cop" against Franklin's ineffective diplomacy whenever he actually engaged in it.
He did NOT fail as a diplomat in Holland. Look at France: Franklin and "populist" Jefferson hobnobbing with the supremely decadent French aristocracy not actually doing any diplomacy.
I'm the only person who wants Jesse to tf.
ZZZZZZZZZZZ. BORING
