  • I promise, I did this for you. I did this for all of us. I have seen a ton of ads about the Gillette Labs Heated Razor and just had to know...Has the Cartridge caught up to the excellence of the safety razor? Is the cartridge razor ready to take on the control and epic shaves that come with using a traditional wet shaving set up. I went in optimistic. I might have buyer's remorse after getting the heated razor from Gillette.

I bought this today. I have super sensitive skin, I can't use normal shaving techniques without getting folliculitis every single time. I have to use oil, not foam or gel and I have to use hot blades. I haven't tried it yet but this sounds promising to me. I will give it a go. Got a great deal on the razor and the blades. If I can shave without constantly having to heat my razor under the tap it might work. I never get shaving spots or folliculitis since using oil and heat. If I get spots, this fails.

So, he just bought a good bit of refills (I think 30, 40, can’t remember) and sent them together as a present. It saves me the gas money of stopping by the store where I buy my groceries or prescriptions. Now, should I use TOBS, a tallow soap or a vegan soap? A brushless cream for a pre-shave, or oil? Badger, boar, or synth? Heated Perrier in the bottom of the scuttle so the bubbles give off more heat than plain old Evian or Voss? Rex Ambassador for the first pass, 6S for the 2nd, 6C for the 3rd and Fat Boy for pickups, and which of the 20+ varieties of blades should I choose for each one? It’s funny. When people with the proper knowledge try out a cartridge razor, they go back to canned cheap goo (by the way Proraso’s canned goo in yellow, red and blue is superb) and review their cartridge razor instead of using similar shaving gear and prep as when they use a DE razor. Why ? Because they want to remind themselves of how bad their shaves were in the old days ? I use a Fusion 5 and many DE razors, Fusion 5 for the first pass, the DE razor for the second pass plus touch up and get awesome shaves that way.
Why is it that DE and SE razor fans love to talk down on cartridge razor shaving, when most of the male population do excellent with electric shavers and cartridge razors ? Thumb strop your cartridge, apply a proper shaving soap build with a shaving brush and apply your proper DE razor shaving technique to a Fusion 5, and you’ll get EXCELLENT shaves.
Yeah you need to rinse a cartridge more often to avoid clogging, but once you learn to thumb strop it and shave with the right technique - nothing beats it.

    Couldn't be better explained.
150$ hahahaha! We both know what's a high-end razor for that budget.

Lots of bucks for a cartridge razor. Back to the future!

Like all of us, I migrated from carts to DE shaving. It took some time to learn the skills, but the shaves I get now are far superior to those I used to get from the carts (Mach 3 was my preferred system). BUT wet shaving takes longer, and even slight inattention can lead to nicks and irritation. The acid test for me is how a razor performs on my neck (because shaving one’s cheeks is easy as, and good performance on cheeks don’t mean nuthin). Did the heated razor give you an irritation free shave on your neck? If it did (and you said it shaved your chin well), then it’s a thumbs up. I must say, your face didn’t look irritated at all! As for the cost - man, wet shaving is a money pit! If we only used one DE razor, one brush and one soap at a time, then maybe… But we all know that’s not how we ride. In summary, I’ve only ever heard good things about the heated razor, so it might be worth getting one to include it in my rotation. I’ll think about it…. Cheers. 👍🪒

Chin did good. Got some tugging on my neck. I’m all about spending the money, if it’s worth it, I just don’t know if it is. If you’re interested I might be interested in sending this your way if you’re in the states 🤷

Sorry, Greg, I’m about as far from the States as you can get (Perth, Australia). If there was tugging on your neck, though, I think I’d have to pass on the razor anyway. The search for the perfect shaving implement goes on…
