    I bought some MIP heavy duty rear drive shafts/axles, on the recommendation of everyone. The axles broke twice. 1st time was when the car started wheelieing on 3s. 2nd time was just driving up and down a dirt trail behind my house. I'll never buy MIP again. 70 bucks and they didn't last two weeks. My stock plastic shafts are lasting longer. MIP should be ashamed.

    Aluminum/steel/titanium also puts more stress on the plastic parts. If they are strait up attached to the plastic it will snap much easier.

    6061 and 7071 is the purity and hardness of technology aluminum. Aluminum is not an alloy. It's one element, an alloy is two or more elements combined.

    • @nobsnospam2368
      @nobsnospam2368 3 роки тому +2

      BS. 6061 contains magnesium and silicon which is why it was called Alloy 61S at first.
      Never heard of 7071. If this is a new alloy please post a link.
      If you mean 7075 then that the same as 6061 with even more Zinc, ti, chro and other metals in trace quantities. It also requires less heat treatment than 6061.
      6063 is the most common form of Aluminum but has less strength than 6061. Mostly used for roofing/siding or complex extrusions that do not need structural strength.

    I can hope for a professional opinion on this.. tires & hex hubs? Plastic or aluminum? Ok to get tires with plastic hubs & mix w/ an aluminum hex piece... Tires that can hold out ? Am I the only 1 that thinks proline sells you their tires with a pussy plastic hub? I did my best to make sure the hex piece properly mates with the tire hub & it stripped out in no time flat... I'm not even the kind of guy that likes to create jumps & jump my RC to the extreme.. The only kind of jumping I like to do is off of slight variations of short grass terrain on a good open field. I just like to ride for fun & now I'm going for switching from proline trencher tires to Traxass Sledgehammer tires.. My problem with the tire falling off on 3 separate occasions... it started with a 10 year old driveshaft blowing.. replace the shaft by the pair.. Trencher tire hex shape hubs torn... ahhh.. My Traxass Stampede 4x4 vxl also sat in the dust w/o being used for 6 years & now I'm sucked back into this hobby & spending too much money on new parts but before the install I need tires that can hold out for me sold as is on a 3s motor. I had each rear wheel tire falling out

    What’s kept me weary of using steel gears is steel against plastic can sometimes be a bad combo. As in should the plastic gear, maybe leading into a transmission locks up, the outside steel might very well strip the plastic of all its teeth. If there’s anything I am missing or could avoid that please comment as I’d prefer to have a “bulletproof” tranny than a halfway upgraded tragic possibility. And of course aluminum would be my go to on most parts, especially those which are threaded to avoid once again, stripping the plastic. On my (life size) Ducati I have a lot of Carbon fiber fairings, and for the most part they’ve been great and reduced weight. However if it’s left in the sun too long for too many times, it will lighten the shades of the part. Also I rear ended a parked car once, luckily only moving at less than 10mph, and my front headlight shroud broke. And once carbon fiber breaks, it’s done. And to top that off, to replace just the single part was nearly $500. The gas tank alone was over $1000. It’s taken time, but nearly the entire fairing is carbon fiber. Anyway, for R/C, I’d say it should do very well even against crashes against pretty much anything, as I crashed a 450lb motorcycle against a stationary car and only cracked one piece. So a far lighter car, and quality CF, you should be fine. And like he said with great weight loss.

    Thanks for this Bret, I just ordered some parts from you guys last week. Great service arrived 4 days later. Just waiting on my stimulus check for some more and a new truck. I have noticed that my front steering has gotten a lot more play in it than it had three years ago. I've replaced the portal bearings and that has helped. I am waiting on the portal drive bearings to come in to complete it. Being stuck at home gives plenty of time to service our vehicles. Buying a few parts along the way helps pass the time.

      Could be a gear stripping out or maybe the slipper is too loose? Sounds like you're losing power though. Maybe inspect the pinion and spur gear and ensure the teeth look ok and not chewed up. Then maybe check the slipper nut and see if it is loose. If it is, you can just tighten it up. It could be that the slipper has worn out which happens. Traxxas sells a rebuild kit for it: www.amainhobbies.com/traxxas-slipper-clutch-rebuild-kit-tra5552x/p158365?r=0

    Running on carpet or astro also has more grab on parts and tires. Own experience I break more on carpet than I do on dirt because I think on dirt there is more slide or give to the surface. I think the same parallels to sports where there tend to be more knee and joint injuries on artificial surfaces than on natural surfaces.

      It referring to the method of how the part was created. Stamping manipulates the metal to form the part or shape you want (usually from a sheet of aluminum). CNC cuts the metal to form the part or shape you want (usually from a block of aluminum). Both methods are good but CNC is a bit more precise but also more expensive.
