      Some manuals are definitely better than others, but they all contain useful, basic information when you're new to the hobby. Even if you're experienced, looking through the manual to check out any tips or tricks, examine the fluids included in the diffs and shocks and double checking the Low Voltage Cutoff settings is great to do.

    First time i brought out my first rc, a traxxas slash, i hit a curb and broke an arm. Second time i hit a curb again and cracked the chassis and bend the centre drive shaft. Now i turned it down to beginner setting and stay far away from curbs lol. There for sure a learning curve to RC fun.

    That is so true about parts breaking. I watched all these UA-camrs try out cars and bash them around skate parks. I assumed I could just run the car out and drive it however I wanted. That is not the case at all. I don't even watch most of these R/C UA-camrs anymore 'cause I feel like they're full of crap. AMain makes super helpful videos though.

    I have been in this hobby so long that i remember when the r/c controllers weighed 10 lbs. LOL but the only thing i see to say anything about. is the fact of li-po's. I charge mine to full charge. an then i put them in a freezer for long term storage. After that what i do, is i pull them out give a quick top off to warm up the li-po's.I been using li-po's pretty much when they came out. talk about a tricky battery. you had to watch every thing you did cause you could over discharge it. then your out all that money.it has been almost 20 years since they came out to the r/c side of this wonderful hobby. so i talk with some back ground behind me. but when i took them out put a top off on it. then went to race never had an issue with them. about ten years ago i had to get new batteries. as mine finally could not push my cars any more or even my trucks. The one thing all people need to know you will get your moneys worth if you buy right. i buy my batteries from max amps. life time warranty. no questions asked. an i love my Hyperion chargers. never went wrong with the setup i have. but if you get a cheap charger and cheap li-pos you will not get what you want out of them.spend the extra go an get good charger and good batteries. in the end you will be happier to use them and have a longer curve time. an you will find out that the money you spend to the cheap stuff you bought is a big difference. do your research. talk to your r/c friends see what they say. an the hobby will last you a long time.an to all i ended up updating electronics and motors an my guys are still faster then most were the day they came out

    Some great tips here! About covering the hole in the tire though. What is the point of the hole if we are covering it up to protect from sand and water entry?

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 роки тому +7

      Hot air expands, cold air contracts. With the tire glued to the wheel, without a vent hole the air gets trapped inside and is susceptible to temperature. So in cold conditions a sealed tire would actually shrink, and in hot conditions it would expand. The ventilation process allows the tire to retain its original shape'ish in varying temperature conditions.
      But in sand or water, or even snow, it's worth sealing up those holes temporarily. Hope this helps explain why.

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, usually. You'll have to see what operating voltage the transmitter runs on. A rechargeable AA operates at 1.2V where an Alkaline operates at 1.5V. Most transmitters will operate within a voltage range to accommodate this, but just check first.

      In 1/10 scale cars we talk more about turns. The lower the turns the more power it has. So a 5.5t is modified for a 4wd. For a 2wd i would use a 6.5T or a 7.5T. If u wanna drive stock class i think it is 13.5 where ever you live and what they race.

    Hi, I picked up an old 3-band 27Mhz RC car t(a very cool, HUGE Ford GT, almost 2 feet long!) that takes a 9.6V NiCd battery pack. It didn't come with a remote, so I bought a few 27Mhz remotes, even some with 3 or 4 bands, but none of them would operate the car (which I think is weird because there are only 6 bands in the 27Mhz range, so I figured at least ONE of the remotes would work). So I assume that to get this working, I must buy a new transmitter/receiver kit. My confusion is, the kits I see (for example, the AUSTAR AX6S 4CH 2.4Ghz) are all either 6V or 12V, but I don't see any 9.6V kits? What am I missing here? How does a 6 or 12v receiver work off a 9.6v battery? Thanks for any info.. (PS: Is it difficult to swap out the original receiver for a new one?)

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  3 роки тому

      The 9.6V battery is plugged into the ESC (speed controller), which is then plugged into the receiver. The ESC manages the voltage that the receiver receives, which is usually 6V, but it can vary. Hope that helps, but shoot over other questions.

      @@AMain_Hobbies Brett, thanks so much for the explanation. I believe this car is what you would call "toy grade", but it's still cool so I'd like to work on it a bit-- I'm new to this so it would be fun to tinker/learn. I think the best idea is to take the body off and see what it looks like inside before I buy any parts. I'm thinking if it's cheaply made, it may be all sealed and self-contained, such that I can't just (easily) pop in a new receiver. I don't know-- Maybe you do? The brand is "1 Badd Ride". They're out of business now but this was made in 2006. In your experience do toy grade cars also have removable ESC/Receiver setups? Thanks again.....

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  3 роки тому

      @@epf1961 I don't have any experience with this sort of thing, but in theory, it seems like it should work. The only issue that could stop you, is if the car doesn't use a standalone receiver, and instead its somehow wired directly to the circuit board. Some hobby-grade R/C's come like this as a 2-n-1 ESC/receiver combo, but it's usually the real small ones. I guess you'll just need to get in there and see? Not sure how to determine this other than seeing if a receiver is missing.

      There is no hard rule, but the longer they sit fully charged the more harmful to the battery. I try to avoid them sitting fully charged for more than a few hours. But if you charge a battery the night before a race so you can immediately practice the next day, the battery will probably be fine.

    I want to buy 2 RC cars for my girl's kids (10-11) and I know if both cars are the same frequency they can interfere with eachother so what frequencies are there for me to by? Its been a while since I bought my cars (20 years)

    • @AMain_Hobbies

      Hey Jay! Transmitters today use 2.4GHz technology and they cannot interfere with other transmitter frequencies. So as long as your R/C says "2.4GHz Transmitter," you'll shouldn't have issues driving multiple cars.

I dont have the proper charger yet (the one that can check the cells), and still thinking if its necessary to get one. Im still using the factory charger and using this formula. Got this from some rc group topics; Mah of battery divided by mah output of charger= hours to be charged. Eg. 1500mah (battery capcity) vs 1500 mah (charger electrical output) = 1 hour(charging time)..

    What should I do if I plan on putting a bit more weight on my crawling rig

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  Рік тому

      Prepare for it to drive better. More weight on a rock crawler is usually not an issue because they are slow-going, torque based rigs. Anything more high-performance, rpm-oriented, would probably need a gearing change if extra weight was added, but your crawler shouldn't. It's best to check the motor temps after driving to be sure - before adding weight, and then after (was there a change?)

      The transmitter may be the power source to charge the battery; some mini and micro r/c vehicles do it that way. Once the battery is charged, you can unplug it I believe. For your manual, try checking out the manufacturers website for a digital copy. It will be good to have.
