From a liverpool fan from Northern Ireland, what an absolute baller irwin was, left foot, right foot, assist, free kick, long range he had it all, he was ahead of his time in the 90s as a full back, how a footballer should be, as much talent as anyone else but didn't seek recognition or glory or fame
A left back that couldn't really be beat 1 on 1, truly two footed, could play on both flanks, took all set pieces, quality crossing and the most consistent performer I have ever seen.
I think this description was over rated a little bit, why we haven’t seen the media talking about him? .. this question doesn’t mean that you’re wrong but what I mean he was so influenced enough as well as we should remember him till now or as well as what you have described. My favourite full back of all time just about pipping Zambrotta. Just unreal technique when crossing the ball. AWB could do with watching Irwins highlights and see where he can improve going forward!!!!
Best full back we have ever had at the club. He could do with teaching the current crop of players the art of crossing the ball and how to take corner kicks. Class act. Had it all and such a humble hard working player. They don't make them like Denis anymore.
That Man u team was amazing, as a neutral so watchable, I really enjoyed football in the nineties, such a good time. Still in bloody lockdown!!!!! But thanks u tube, keeping me sane with football videos. 👍
Roy Keane: Dennis my god, he can play left back right back, good at set piece, good with his both feet, rarely injured always fit, train well always consistent, good lad good personality good character..
He was reliable with pens and never missed to cost the team winning a competition but he missed in the 1993 CharityShield and in the PL 1998/99 vs Villa at OldTrafford which ManUtd still won 2-1.
My dad was a football academy coach in my hometown growing up in the 90's. He always spoke about Dennis Irwin being the most versatile and consistent player he had seen in the Premier League. He regularly told us Dennis Irwin was the perfect role model for any young player in terms of ability and professionalism. Now I see what he meant!
What made him such a brilliant penalty taker was he always hit the ball low and hard, none of the silly over the top shots some players take where it goes 15 feet over the bar.
Probably up there as Ferguson's best ever signing. He was a 7/8 out of ten almost every game , two great feet and don't think he ever missed a penalty either outside of that one he scored via rebound anyway ! Legend

And yet Cashley disgracefully gets into Premier league hall of fame before him. Even Evra should be there ahead of AshleyCole looking at their careers records everything in England and outside of the PL but Irwin really what more can you do? 7 Premier league titles (would've been 8 if Bosvelt didn't try to break his leg just before ManUtd played at Highbury in 97/98) 3 FAcups, ChampionsLeague, LeagueCup, CupWinnersCup, SuperCup. 33 goals for ManUtd in 12 years, how many goals did Cashley score in 14 years with Arsenal/Chelsea. I've seen loads of key contributions from Irwin with his weaker foot I now need to see a tape of Cashley's best bits with his right foot please can someone send me the link?
I dont remember him. Ashley Cole and Roberto Carlos are on my list and now Irwin. Irwin had a good weak foot! In terms of technician was not good but was awesome at following the tactics
As a kid born in 1990, I didn't realise how often Irwin played on the right before Paul Parker and Gary Neville came along. He was always the left back guy.
My God, imagine if Denis Irwin was playing now, he could play left-back, right-back, get you a goal, knew how to defend, never injured, a brilliant guy in the dressing room. 😭
really confused me too. I think maybe when he puts his hands above his head he's celebrating but is also frustrated that it either took so long for them to score or that they've already scored so many that goals are meaningless at that point (idk the specifics of scoreline). If you look at the other two United players in that shot 9 and 14 they have very calm and subdued reactions, not much excitement from them too
