SPRING Fly Fishing for BIG TROUT

Landed a handful of healthy rainbow trout on a spring walk and wade to the Bow River near Calgary Alberta.

Hey what do you find more successful. Ive tried lots havent had much luck, used nymphs with indicator, hopper dropper, even tried dry flies. Size 14-18

Nymphing will produce the most fish. Use an indicator and make sure they’re getting to the bottom.

Thinking about buying a new 3wt rod for small streams targeting rainbows / cutbows - any thoughts?

Ya I have a 4wt for the smaller streams and even use it on the bow if I'm dry flying. A ton of fun.

Would u tell someone to fish the bow or try and target bull trout if they are in the area

There are some bullies in the bow, but the smaller mountain streams are always fun to go after them. Most smaller streams don’t open until June.

This river is open year round! Most of our smaller rivers open April.
