There is not one harness that is best for everyone. I don't generally make gear videos to tell cavers to buy one piece of gear or another. I try to show the features and discuss what I see as the pros and cons and let them decide for themselves. I also have a video on the MTDE harnesses and I also like them, but like the Petzl harnesses, they are not perfect.
Same. I have an issue with the leg loops sliding to then backs of my knees while on rope, no matter how tightly they are cinched down, on any harness without a butt strap. Getting an MTDE Amazonia 2 harness was the best gear decision I ever made.
Derek now I saw in 4:27 you used de AV tecnibat, I was thinking to buy this harness. Do you have any review video to send to me or you can say more about?
Very well done Derek, you get all the details of bad things and good things about the harnesses. About the loop, I just add on a biner and it´s enough for me, extra stuff needs to go inside of backpacking.
I love you cave gear review videos and I find them very helpful. Could you please also do a few overview videos on over suits and about the most common variety in comparison.
On my Superaventi harness leg loops I put a strap from leg loop to waist to prevent that from happening and it has worked great for me because I hated to have to keep adjusting.
Good advice. I'd like to see Petzl, or another manufacturer, make a leg loop riser that could be slid over the waist and leg loop webbing as an optional add-on.
Great video ... Would you consider to do a video about the petzl adjust that you're using on your gear ? I'm considering to changue my cowstails to that system, but it could be helpfull to listen the opinion of someone who has al ready used it on the field... know prons and cons about it, thanks
Looks like the new version of the super avanti fix one of the issue: 2 gear loops on each side. (The only modification I saw with the addition of TPU on the belt buckle protection). And a full new model (Petzl Aven) with far more gear loops.
Excellent review as always, thanks. The leg loops of my superavanti slip down while walking and are a deal breaker for me. Also agree that it would be nice to have two gear loops per side instead of just the one. Maybe it’s time for an update, Petzl!
I think it is the tpu covering that causes the slippage. I had a similarly designed gonzo guano gear harness for years that had bare webbing and the leg loops did not slip. I do like the superavanti, just not the leg loop covering.
Any recommendations for adding more gear loops? Maybe sewing a couple more on, made from dyneema? Petzl also has those Caritool tool holders, but seems those could be snag-prone in caves.
Is it ok to attach the petzl connect adjust in that manner everything I've seen shows it girth hitched to a belay loop and I would like to attach it in the manner in the video but I'm unsure
One tiny problem with metal rings for central atachment tend to be when teaching new people, those atachment points confuse newbies and they often put the central D in a completely wrong way....but thats only duringtraining, so it gets sorted out....(wouldnt call it a problem, but still, something that happens)
Thoughts on reported slippage of the new orange webbing models?
The most convenient and comfortable harness for me is MTDE.
For me it is ALP.
MTDE Amazonia 👌👌👌👌🤝

@@DerekBristol I wonder why you haven't talked about ALP Design harness, but cavers in China love it.

Cool! I haven't seen the new models announced yet, but glad to hear of some improvements.

The new superavanti has 4 gear loops
Very soon Petzl are updating or replacing these 2 harnesses.
It is about time to be fair. Nice review thank you Derek.
Good to hear! Thanks for the update, generally love Petzl gear.

Removable gear loops exist, as do removable leg loop risers. I just have never seen them sold individually. One could always sew their own I suppose.

Aspiring safety caving harness for me. Mainly because the company is located in the southern hemisphere and the harnesses are really hardy.
