I tried to edit out as much as I could without compromising the content, but I was editing over 5 hours of recorded footage + this is like 3 videos in one + I'm currently busy with uni, internship, and commissions LOL... I skipped over a lot but if you'd like me to cover anything in specific or more in depth in another video, let me know in a comment! As always, thank you for watching!!
Never has there been an artist whose videos and art had drawn (haha) so much awe and an actual eagerness to practice coloring, something I've always struggled with. Breathtaking work!
Thank you so much for such a kind and thoughtful comment!! I'm honored to hear that this helped you feel eager to practice coloring! Thank you for the support! TT
I needed this! 😭 I took a bunch of photos when I was in Japan a few times, and have been trying to figure out how to repurpose them into background art. Seeing this in well-explained steps is so helpful!
Hi hiiiii thank you so much for all y9ur work ❤️🥰❤️ i live warching your videos ❤️ I have a request. I am doing relatively well with flat colour but atruggling to render or shade my art is there a chance you could do an episode on that? ❤️
I cut out a little bit haha so it wasn't immediately done like in the video, but since I already shaded on a layer clipped to the below layer, I right clicked the shading layer, then clicked "Selection from Layer" > "Create Selection", then on the selection pop up I clicked "Invert Selected Area" (the icon with a dotted triangle and a filled triangle), then filled it with an orange color! And thank you for watching!
I’ve usually been pretty intimidated with backgrounds in general, but your video has helped me immensely. Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial! I learned so much and I can’t wait to try it out 😊
I'm glad you found it helpful!! And to be honest I don't fully understand perspective LOL but I can try to make a video on how I approach it in the future! Thank you for the request! : D
Wow! Would LOVE a underwater painting tutorial ! Water is so tricky for me and yours is just Muwha so beautiful ! Super talented and glad to find you !
Thank you so much!! My brush making method is a bit strange haha but maybe someday I'll make a short video on it- Will definitely try to release the bubble brush I made soon though! Thank you for watching!
Amazing video!! This saves so much time while still making sure the final piece looks great. That piece with the photo of your road trip looks like it cost hours.
Thank you so much for watching!! And it took about 3ish hours, I was able to save quite a bit of time using brushes for the pine needles and textures, if you'd like me to link it let me know! :)
i'm a brand new subscriber who found you while looking for tutorials on how to cheat backgrounds, and i watched several of your other videos after this one. you're criminally underrated and extremely talented, your tutorials are super concise and helpful for people of all stages of art whether they be beginner, intermediate, or just looking for some help! i love your narration and i love how clear your instructions and advice are. i'll definitely be turning on notifications to check out any new uploads!!

Omg this is exactly what I've been needing!!! I've been trying to use pictures as backgrounds for my characters, but find that no matter how well I shade the character for the setting, they seem out of place. Your process of editing the picture as well made everything make sense!! It also explained how some layer effects could help that I'd been too confused to try before, like overlay. I'm going to watch more of your videos and subscribe to you now, you've really made it so much easier to learn! Thank you!!
Tysm so much for this! You do not understand how much this video has inspired me as a artist! I have thought about wanting to draw my characters on photos i took but i never really had to confidence to do it even though i slightly knew how it would work, this gave me a lot of inspiration and for the past years ive been doing art i have only recently started photobashing to save time when in the past i thought it was considered cheating
Thank you!! I'm so happy to hear it inspired you, and using photos definitely isn't considered cheating!! I'm glad this video was able to help, thank you for watching!!
Yes, you should be able to! I'm not familiar with IbisPaint but assuming it has blending modes and layers, everything I covered in this video should be applicable!
Are you referring to adding the blue highlights behind the character, or something else? If blue highlights, I color picked from the sky and on the layer above photo and beneath character, I used a blue highlight and set blending mode to "Lighten" to brighten some parts behind the character. For the cool and warm colors, I think I cut out a part on accident LOL but that was the overlay layer itself, at 06:58 you might be able to see it a bit clearer but 'Layer 22' which is the overlay layer, when I reduce the opacity of it and turn it to normal you can see the colors of the drawing reflect more of the original image/photo. If you need me to explain in a different way let me know! Or if that wasn't what you were asking, let me know and I can explain! :)
Your background artwork is so great. I like how you integrate the background into your characters. You mentioned you used painterly brushes, which one do you use for the sunset and underwater one? I've been looking for specific background brushes and yours look just perfect.
Thank you so much, I'm honored you think so! For the painterly brushes, I used this one for the water in both pieces: assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1746129 Though in the sunset one, I used the "PPClouds" brush from this set for all the clouds!: www.deviantart.com/porforever/art/Porforever-s-Custom-Brush-Set-613602656
U have such a nice style n calming voice. And ur name sounds familiar to my native language lol X3 Ps: i always struggle on bc so i will give this a try.
I right clicked on the shading layer and then clicked Selection from layer > Create selection, then on the selection toolbar that pops up I click the "Invert selected area" button (two triangles on top of each other!)
