      I think most laws are crazy here in England, that’s why this Brit is looking for land in America for a cabin build.
      Their is a guy on UA-cam who originally comes from Liverpool, he now owns land in Wales.
      He build his own wood cabin house home.
      EVERYONE should check out his story and how the council took him to court, it would blow ya minds!!
      They threw everything at him, high court BS you name it, and obviously spent a fortune of Our taxes paying for it all. 🫣
      Good news is, he is a Very intelligent guy and Won his cases.
      It seems Everything is designed to be against you from British councils & government.
      Hardly surprising that more and more people are buying land abroad for their build or & renovation, and lucky for us guys on UA-cam lots of them have channels. 👍
      I’ve lived in America before for 8 years, it’s amazing how in many states the laws for building and many other things are much more relaxed.
      America is not everyone’s cup of tea but lots of rules & regulations spoil things in the U.K.
      They take the fun out of loads of things.

    Cracking video, captures the stark beauty of the Schil perfectly. It is one of my favourite hikes & camps, I've managed three camps up there this year...... The last one was in October, I've had a Lanshan2, Telemark2, X-Mid2 & a Scarp1 up there when I took my kids and they all handled the wind well. Delta pegs are an essential, especially with trekking pole tents. Anyway, new sub here. ATB

    A possible improvement for the tent in high wind might be to attach a longer rear guyline and prop that with a walking pole so the force is pulling it more up and making it harder to deflect downwards. If you get custom 10mm poles that'd do it too (though expensive and heavier).

      @Fellmandave1 I've just watched it this morning over breakfast, great job. I ended up going with the fire maple blade 2, fits perfectly inside my msr pika kettle. I've yet to use it in testing conditions, only had it out on a coastal walk so far but it seems decent. I was looking for something smaller than my MSR whisperlite liquid fuel stove and something that didn't require the faff of priming it and avoiding the massive flame the process can generate, not good when cooking in the porch of your tent over the winter months as so often is the case.

      @Fellmandave1 Funny timing this, literally hours after sending that reply I caught sight of a video claiming that the blade 2 cannot be used inverted which it was advertised as being able to do and the main reason I bought it. I dug it out, tested it and sure enough it suffers quite badly from stuttering when inverted. So I've now returned it for a refund and am awaiting delivery of a MSR windpro 2 instead.

    Another option for enabling the tent to withstand the wind could be a much longer guy line and using a Delta ground anchor. It looks like there is only one guy line, perhaps two placed at an angle to each other might be better.

    • @mountainsofthemind9294
      @mountainsofthemind9294  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, thanks there are definitely things I could've done to help the tent cope better but in the past this tent has stood up to everything thrown at it no problem so I didn't think I'd need to do anything else. Lesson learned 👍

    • @mountainsofthemind9294
      @mountainsofthemind9294  6 місяців тому

      Don't worry, the scorpion is a very robust and sturdy tent, I've had it out in bad conditions on many occasions and it's never put a foot wrong. This wind was just ridiculous and if I were to ever pitch in these conditions again I know now that I'd need to do something to help strengthen the tent, extra guy lines etc... Don't worry, you've bought a very good tent, I love mine 👍

    I've seen the a terra nova voyager have wind hit the rear tent the same as this. It probably could've been avoided with guy lines on pole sections instead of just the one on the ventilation slot.
    There should be information you can find if vestibule facing into wind for that tent is correct. Some tents are designed to be stronger with vestibule facing into wind.

    • @mountainsofthemind9294
      @mountainsofthemind9294  7 місяців тому

    • @ashab1
      @ashab1 7 місяців тому

      I do believe the vestibule is supposed to face the wind on this design, I have seen other videos in extreme wind and they have stood up to it very well.

    • @StoreyR
      @StoreyR 7 місяців тому

      @@ashab1 yeah true. Just need to be cautious managing getting in and out otherwise it would be a very bad day. Seems counter intuitive to face into wind, but some tents work this way.

    Loved watching that. Thankyou.
    i got the Scorpian 2. It has served me well so far. Think its stronger facing into the wind but then it becomes a parachute when you open the door 😀
    I do worry that you was cooking with the doors closed? Im always quite paranoid about Carbon Monoxide poisening 🤔

    • @mountainsofthemind9294
      @mountainsofthemind9294  6 місяців тому

      A few people have said that about pitching door to the wind but I can't find anything official stating that. I'll give it a try.
      As for cooking inside, it's a necessity in the winter months, especially in conditions like this. There is plenty of ventilation around / through the tent for it nor to be a problem, a bigger concern is keeping flames away from the walls, especially in wind like this. Definitely doors open if conditions allow, though 👍

    You can't be charged for simply wild camping in england. If you are asked to move on though, it becomes a crime of trespass if you don't go.
    When your tent was setup, the weak rear of the tent was obvious as your single guyline really does nothing to stop the rear poles flattening. It would be better to pitch the front into the wind.
