I used to see LDV Convoys, and Pilots driving around the place, but they aren’t made in England anymore, they are made in China
Just for context, the top spec LDV is +/- R150k than the top GWM P-Series. I can already see them exiting the south african market before GTA VI arrives. A comparison test including a drag race and light off road and on road tests where you guys review all the chinese bakkies.
With that logic the Hilux, Ranger, D-max etc would also leave the market because they're more expensive than the P-series. South Africans clearly are not interested in value.

We need to remembered the rules of the economy. The fewer the supply, the higher the price. In time these vans will be many, the price will be cheaper that time. It is not really competing with any bakkie. It is offering an alternative. We may regret it after 10 years when we realize that this van survived beyond the established brands. Rivals are tipping the scales at 1 million rands already. China is too far. It was not cheap to get this beauty here. Well done, incredible review.

You must be off your rocker to pay 800k for this. Worth faaaakol in a few years time. You can buy a low mileage Hilux or Ranger for that price and get most of your money back on resale.

In Australia this brand was taken to court because of rust. Ldv said that it's not their problem because the customer used it near the sea too many times.

I was hoping you will share drivability such as ride quality (hard or soft) on the road COMPARED to other marques. Also, how is it in cornering, does it intill confidence, is rathling or wallowing. This is a top spec bakkie from 6-8 yrs ago, not a bakkie in 2024. The pricing has adjusted but the design and spec hasn't. I had hope this was going to be a similar offering like the P-series since LDV have been in AUS for years. Oh well maybe in 3-4 yrs once they've learnt some lessons about our market and looked at their competitors.

Get into a Ranger after being in a Hilux and you feel like you've changed centuries; and they are pretty much equally priced. You cannot argue that the Hilux isn't EXTREMELY overpriced for what it is. Toyota sells on nothing but brand loyalty and the knowledge that it's customers will never even consider the competition. Toyota knows it can rob people blind and get away with it. Just look at a "new" (40-year old) LC 70-series that's more cheaply built than a Renault Kwid, yet costs R1mill.

Strong reliability, value holding and piece of mind is the trump card. Land cruiser is a different target market, one where all the fancy gismos isn't so much a priority, rarely you'll find Cruisers kept standard without purpose built customizations on them because reliability becomes top priority when you start injecting money customizing a Land Cruiser for individuals different needs.

And no, switching the 4x4 on at a gravel road for no good reason is not an offroad test :) I would appreciate if you added a load bay dust test to see how much dust or not gets into the load bays of different bakkies while driving on gravel roads. besically when you swipe for it you must remember to pay the R 20 for their bank changes, that's is how the Chinese do business here in SA. At this price point the generally established brands are a better option. they must check in with Mahindra for an agricultural lifestyle and build from there.

This is a bit disappointing presentation and I nearly tuned off, but wanted to see more and learn about the barkie features. Should have opened with what is outstanding about the car, features and engine options. Then go to the comparisons and price points. There was absolutely no reason to change the car to all wheel drive on a gravel road that even an i10 would have found to be an easy road.
This is the run out model. According to what I understand a brand new T60 will be released next year. Will be more in line with today's new models like Ford and VW.

It's funny watching this from the UK. Mitsubishi has completely pulled out of the market here, Isuzu's are a far rarer site on the roads, the Hilux is a lot less common place and the Ranger is WAY more popular. I've only seen one of these and it was electric (don't think they sell the diesel one here, especially given how much it has fallen out of favour ). Overall, vans here WAY outsell Bakkies.

GWM P500 HEV is coming, let's see! Over 200KW but let's see real world fuel consumption. Izuzu is not keeping up with the times and pasting GR stickers on a Hilux, is not a Ford Ranger Raptor. GWM should maybe consider a plant in SA, nearby a reliable harbour for the rest of africa
This bakkie gets a thumbs down for me. When I first saw this vehicle , the price shocked me for a Chinese car that plans to compete with established brands. The growth of Havaal and Hyundai (at some point in time) shows that South Africans are price sensitive and as a car manufacturer you need to be careful with your pricing. The big German brands like BMW and Mercedes are starting to struggle because of the same fact.
I bought a 2021 GWM P series demo 9000km on the clock complained about a G Box shudder , clock gaines time , vibration through vehicle, G Box had a few hard re programs , was told its under warranty we will take care if it if persistent, diff whine at 36000km more or less , V O R for 2 days short of 2 months, replaced diff , did nothing to the G Box , after throwing my toys out the cot and finding metal particles in the G Box oil they replaced the G Box , shudder still present, now only 48000km other clock Coustomer Care say its fixed as far as they concerned case closed , they blocked my emails and don't return my calls , it dosen't help having no backup from manufacturer , China has a problem if they going to walk away from the Coustomer that wants to support them !
South african consumers have BLD (Brand loyalty disorder) so unless this brand sponsors the springboks or does something special, no one will pay it any mind.

This car market as been taken over by preowned (we buy cars) and also the chinese, therefore it is an unfair competition to all the other brands and thus this is difficult to all the consumers. Expensive and reputable brands are remaining expensive and only the rich can afford
people are attracted to features and tech that's what makes these Chinese brands attractive for all that and the price, whereas the tried and tested brands charge an arm and a leg for the same features

For me ISUZU is the only way ,you dont have to look over your shoulders incase someone is following you .isuzu is safe not a high risk
