Big Bear Mountain Roller Coaster - Opening May 12
Dollywood’s largest ever park expansion, Wildwood Grove, is getting even bigger! Debuting in the spring of 2023, Big Bear Mountain will be the longest coaster at Dollywood, taking guests of all ages on an unforgettable family-friendly expedition in search of the Big Bear. Circling Wildwood Grove for nearly two minutes on 3,990 ft. of track, this gigantic coaster is a first of its kind at Dollywood with onboard audio, including music and announcements from Ned Oakley himself.
It’s almost time to venture into the Smokies for an unforgettable adventure aboard Dollywood's largest attraction. Ned Oakley, Wildwood Grove’s resident wilderness explorer, knows a thing or two about this hidden land and is setting up the Adventure Outpost Base Camp, located just a stone’s throw away from the Grove’s Hidden Hollow. Here, you'll join Ned in his specially-outfitted, four-wheel drive SUVs for the ride of your life in search of the Grove’s most storied and elusive inhabitant, Big Bear.
Big Bear Mountain joins the eleven other attractions of Wildwood Grove to continue the story of this hidden land just beyond the hollow log. As Dollywood’s newest land grows in size, so does its charm, making it an even more wonderful place for families to have fun, relax and be together surrounded by the beauty of the Smoky Mountains. Continue your adventure and discover all the stories of the Grove.

Love how authentic you are about where you’re at with coasters. It’s nice to have someone out there that feels like so many others. I can ride some but not all. My daughter can handle less than me, so seeing you being honest about how you feel makes her feel less alone. This was a great video! Hannah is so sweet and the outro was awesome!
Thanks Amber! Glad you could relate and join us at Big Bear Mountain roller coaster!
My 3 year old loved it!!! Fantastic addition to Dollywood. Vekoma nailed it with this design.
Glad he enjoyed it Korriban! We agree that Big Bear Mountain is a great addition to Dollywood!
RYAN, I CAN SEE WHERE THE RIDE HAD ITS UPS AND DOWNS, BUT WITH HANNAH'S HELP YOU WERE ABLE TO JUST ROLL WITH IT !!! "BEARLY" ABLE TO CONQUER YOUR FEAR BUT YOU DID IT !!
LOL...yes, Hannah was a great ride buddy! There is no way I would have rode Big Bear Mountain roller coaster alone!
Love your Sense of Humor❣
@@missybrock THANKS,.......SOMETIMES I CRACK MYSELF UP !!!
@@timothygriffin1062 Good!!! I love that
Can't wait to come ride it next month with my daughter.
We hope you both have a wonderful time riding Big Bear Mountain next month Wendy!
This is one of the most wholesome videos I’ve ever seen on this platform.
Bravo 👏
Thanks Matt! We hope it helps other people coming to Dollywood better know what to expect with Big Bear Mountain Roller Coaster!
way better than the fat Yankee!
I rode it on Monday and it was awesome. I loved it. Glad you rode it with Hannah. Great memories. Thanks Ryan for great video
Thanks Sandi, glad you were able to enjoy Big Bear Mountain too!
That was great, glad you tried it Ryan, I don't ride alot of rides but it looked fun , thanks Ryan and Hannah God Bless
Our pleasure Beth! Big Bear Mountain at Dollywood is A LOT of fun!
Ryan i understand. I had a panic attack once on the ferris wheel at Dollywood. I am highly allergic to bees and you know how the bees swarm at Dollywood. Well, we were riding, and they stopped us at the top and just kept us sitting there . The bees were swarming all around me head and i was scared to death. I couldn't get off, and i kept screaming at the operator to get us down but he just let us sitting up there. Finally, he started the ride and he kept us going around and around. I was really panicking. When we did finally get off, they closed the ride down due to the swarming off the bees. I was so thankful that the Lord protected me but i was scared to death. To this day i still will not get on any ride where it stops , goes off the ground or goes slow and i cant get off. Except coasters, because they go fast. That's why i won't ride on a ski lift even though I enjoy them or a ferris wheel anymore. I can understand your fear but kudos to you for conquering it and riding Big Bear Mountain with Hannah.
Ryan, I feel your pain!! I literally felt it when you were nervous!! I do the same thing!! Kudos to you and Hannah on your bravery!!😊
Thanks KDE! I couldn't have rode Big Bear Mountain without Hannah!
So Proud of ya, Sir❣ Please tell Miss Hannah that this teal/turquoise color is Soo Pretty on her (not that she isn't already, of course)💚💙💚 Love You guys❣
Will do Missy! She picked it out at Bass Pro Shops the other day while I was picking up a new hat. We appreciate the support!
@@AdventureIsOutThere Awesome!!
WOW, You actually rode it!!! That is awesome!!
I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks...lol! Great to see you today Butch!
So proud of u Ryan ucdid great.
Thanks Wanda! God is good!
Way to go Ryan!! You did it. 😁
Thanks Cathi...God is good!
Proud of you Ryan! Glad Hannah could be there for you.
I was going to just set the camera on the storage bin, but Abbi was with us and said she wasn't ready to ride it yet and wanted to just wait. She offered to hold the camera while we pulled out & back in the station. If Hannah didn't get on, there is no way I would have rode Big Bear Mountain roller coaster alone!
Proud of ya...way to go Ryan!!
Thanks Dawn! You guys will love this ride when you come in June!
@@AdventureIsOutThere y'all all have fun tomorrow! Will miss hanging out with y'all.
@@JustOutnAbout hopefully you can make it to the HeartSong Lodge & Resort opening!
We can't wait to ride it! Glad y'all enjoyed it!
You guys will love Big Bear Mountain when you do make it back to Dollywood, it is fantastic!
I am going on big bear mountain today so this boosted my confidence a bit
Newer subscriber to your channel. I watch your videos but I don't comment too much. Great job Ryan. I knew you could do it. Now you can do it over and over because you know what to expect. Maybe now you can advance to some more roller coasters. You do a great job with your videos. God Bless.
Welcome Renee, we are glad to have you join our adventures! After going through a really hard time with PTSD, I had panic attacks on some very basic rides back home in FL. It's taken some time to build back up confidence being enclosed/trapped on a ride but have gotten much better. If this is the most I can ever do, I have come a long way & very grateful! God is good!
I know what you are saying. I have anxiety, am very closterphobic and can not stand to be tied down or confined. So I know what you are talking about and know what you feel. My situation may not be as bad as yours so let's just pray for each other that the Lord will bless us and we will overcome these problems. You did great and if that is the best you can do then good for you. I know it takes baby steps. You had a great helper riding with you too.❤ God bless.
Congrats on conquering your nerves. Looked like a quick take off. Poor Hannah almost got her hand squeezed off lol. Time for you to try the other coasters at Dollywood now!!
Hannah was a great ride buddy! Ever since being stuck in a situation as a firefighter, I have been challenged with the feeling of being trapped. It just depends on the day, maybe next year I will try a different one...LOL!
@@AdventureIsOutThere Thank You, Ryan for your sacrifices. You are Living A Great life now, as far as I can see! I'm Proud of You, Sir❣
Cant wait to be there next month to ride it
Looking forward to you enjoying it too Dylan!
We went on Friday as you recommended and we were a bit worried as a few school trips pulled in while we were still standing in line but it still wasn’t overcrowded and we braved big bear and LOVED the smoothness of it.
The app said the wait was 65 mins but it only took 28 mins and the time flew by as the lineup was so interactive and entertaining with many things to look at.
Big bear was amazing and your video gave my eight year son the courage to try it and he was so grateful he did.
Thanks as always for everything Ryan we just love your channel and your family.
You bring us so much joy and keep us connected to the Smokies when we can’t be here. ❤ Shan
Glad you guys were able to enjoy this ride Friday & it encouraged your son! We are happy to help any way we can!
That looks awesome!! Great job, you two! Thanks for holding Dad's hand, Hannah ❤
Hannah was a fantastic ride buddy! There is NO WAY I would have gotten on Big Bear Mountain alone!
Wow nice new roller coaster 🎢
Thank you sharing your video 🫶🏻👍🏻
Big Bear Mountain at Dollywood is a really nice roller coaster! Our pleasure Amber!
My 4 year old nephew loved the transformer big bear toy and wouldn’t put it down while on rides. So I picked him up another one yesterday for when that one breaks
That’s smart planning ahead! 😁
Is there a bear animatronic in the cave or somewhere? Where is the bear? Ryan if you can do this coaster, I'm sure you can also handle Firechaser Express. It's on a similar level and doesn't go upsidedown or do anything crazy. At the end it goes backwards a little ways back to the station, but it's tame at that point. Check it out. It's also fire engine themed, which is perfect for you.
There is no animatronic on the ride, but sound effects of a bear at different points. I may try FCE one of these days...thanks Cabo Wabo!
Loved both of your reactions! Is there a spot to stow your belongings on the ride?
There is, we show where on this video: ua-cam.com/video/NTEba5BWzNQ/v-deo.html
@@AdventureIsOutThere thank you!
So you you braved the coaster, LOL. Would love to see a POV video next.
Ask and you shall receive: ua-cam.com/video/nEyCA1zME9g/v-deo.html
I hope all is well with you Fred & Connie!
So I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat as well with roller coasters. I do like fire chaser how would you equate big bear mountain in the fire chaser as rougher or about the same?
I haven't done fire chaser yet, but a lot of people I talked to said it was similar but longer. I will be uploading a reaction video later so you can listen to other peoples thoughts Jim!
Way to go Ryan and Hannah!
👍
Great job y’all 🎉We can hardly wait🙌🙌🙌🐻❄️
Thanks Regina! We hope you can enjoy Big Bear Mountain soon!
I think if you ride Lightning Rod you can take on any coaster. That was my highest anxiety coaster. Dollywood is amazing.
Dollywood is amazing! Big Bear Mountain is a great addition, I don't think I will ever be doing lightning rod though...LOL!
Ryan. Don't feel bad. When I was in the military I did Air Assualt from aprox 80 ft up in helicopters. I was 20 yrs old. Now I'm 60 and I will stay ON THE GROUND NOW. LOL. Great video, and thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Roger, we truly thank God for you!
Does the ride areas have lockers. Is there a central area where you can rent lockers. I think I have seen them. How much does it cost. It seemed complex. I think maybe you can rent for the entire day. That may be a great UA-cam video. I haven’t rode any rides yet. I have a backpack, my water/liquid Dollywood container, pocketbook etc. The kitchen sink might need to be fixed stuff.
There are storage bins at the ride itself I show in this video: ua-cam.com/video/NTEba5BWzNQ/v-deo.html
Can’t wait🎉 I’m going Saturday so I can go to splash country too
Awesome, we plan to come by splash country for lunch for a little bit too. Opening day water can still be chilly but we will at least relax around the water!
😊
I love the Tennessee Tornado roller coaster 🎢 b’cuz I love the loops! The front seat is the best and smoothest. I’m so glad you rode this
I am glad I did too, it really meant a lot to me for the journey I have been on!
Thank you for comparing it to Disney rides! I’m not a big coaster person either but I do love Mine Train, Big Thunder Mountain and Slinky Dog Dash. I hope I’m brave enough to try Big Bear with my kiddos in a couple of weeks. It looks fun 😁
Our pleasure Miranda! Hopefully you can! Here is an on ride POV video: ua-cam.com/video/nEyCA1zME9g/v-deo.html
@@AdventureIsOutThere awesome, thank you!!
Here are some friends (that also go to Disney) sharing their thoughts:

Your daughter is adorable.
We are VERY proud of her! She was supposed to be at a special event right now as I type at Walt Disney World, but since her mom has been battling vertigo, we decided to cancel our trip & reschedule. She took it very well and has been such a great helper around the home lately. All 3 of our kiddos are such a blessing!
Looks similar to Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens Tampa. We can’t wait!
We used to be season pass holders for BG Tampa when we lived in Hillsborough County. We hope you can make up here to Dollywood & enjoy Big Bear Mountain coaster soon!
Thanks for sharing looks like fun. Hannah looks so much like her Mom, beautiful.👍❤️
Our pleasure Melissa, it was A LOT of fun!
How is it compared to Big Thunder Mountain at Disney? I'm not a coaster person, but love Big Thunder Mountain. Otherwise coasters make me nervous too.
I (Ryan) have done Big Thunder & 7 Dwarfs Mine Train many times. I would say the intensity of this ride is a notch above those 2. It doesn't go upside down & give you "I am going to die" feeling some some crazy ones out there. I hope this helps!
I'm a new subscriber and I only live one hour and a half from Dollywood and next Saturday I'm going to Dollywood with my brother and his wife and my brother hasn't been in 10 years and I haven't been in 2 years and I can't wait to go and I love Dollywood
Welcome E Greer! We are glad to have you join our future adventures here in The Smokies & beyond! We hope you get to enjoy Big Bear Mountain roller coaster next time you go to Dollywood!
Ryan, really enjoyed your video! I've been on a kiddie coaster but, not a roller coaster.
So glad you enjoyed joining us on Big Bear Mountain roller coaster Carla!
Way to go brother, you have ride Blazing Fury if you haven’t. It’s so much fun, then after that Mystery Mine lol
Thanks Tom, I completely forgot that I have been talked into Blazin Fury! Just a couple dips and have been able to handle it. Now I don't think Mystery Mine is ever happening...lol!
I want to ride that coaster next time I'm at dollywood!!
Big Bear Mountain Roller Coaster is awesome! We hope you can next time you go to Dollywood annette!
Yea for you!!! Will you do it again? I think I can handle that ride. But won't know till next year going to school. Branson mo this year. Again thanks for the ride
Going to sdc branson this year
Our pleasure Barbara! I think I could do it again if I was feeling up for it!
Do they let you film on the ride?
You can’t film on any ride except the Dollywood express (train). They are giving me an on ride pov video today that I will be able to post here as soon as I get it.
@@AdventureIsOutThere That sounds cool!
So I'm riding big bear the first time on oct 3 and I'm not so scared now after watching this video lol
So happy to hear it has encouraged you Greg! Hope you have a great time!
Way to go Ryan!! I am so proud of you doing that and conquering your fear. See, with God's strength, you can do all things. Now, you can work your way up to Wild Eagle and Mystery Mine. Big Bear Mountain looks like a lot of fun, especially for us coaster enthusiasts. And then you can go to the gift shop and get all of your "bear necessities " 😂
LOL...Thanks Smoky Mountain Man! I am not so sure about Wild Eagle or Mystery Mine, but this was a challenge I was glad to have Hannah help me tackle! God is good!
@AdventureIsOutThere Work your way up from here. Dragon flyer or firechaser need be next. You're there too often to not enjoy the rides. Good luck on your journey
@@johnnyriley455 thanks...I know dragonflier is not a very long ride & people said if I could do this, I shouldn't have a problem with Fire Chaser Express. I may eventually try that one next down the road once my heart calms down!
Fire chaser is fun Ryan. It is not bad at all. .
@AdventureIsOutThere we rode Big Bear today and it was everything you said it was. This is such a great addition to an already solid lineup of coasters.
Merchandise is very reasonable compared to parks in California.
Haha maybe i can get my husband to ride this on, so who did all the other pov coasters at Dollywood? Were you brave lol
lol…provided by Dollywood (I’ve contributed articles on their website)
@AdventureIsOutThere lol, I faced my fears on wild eagle it scared the crap out of me but now I feel like I can do any of them lol. I would love to see a pov of the wild eagle cause I had my eyes closed most of the ride lol
I want to know what the weight requirement is
No weight requirements on Big Bear Mountain roller coaster. Just a 39inch minimum height requirement.
I'm so glad you did it, Ryan! You had me guessing til today. And great to know you'll go again, too.
@fairygodkatie You remind me of me when the Indiana Jones Adventure opened at Disneyland in 1995. I worked 2 miles away and would go ride it on my lunch hours when it was new! I went every day while they were giving away the 40 Years of Adventure cards and got the whole set.
I didn't say how long until I do it again, it may be years...LOL! I can do Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at WDW and the intensity of this ride is a bit more.
YOU HAVEN’T BEEN ON TENNESSEE TORNADO?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
No and I am ok if I never do...LOL!
Concord your fearsome the video
I went through a rough time after being diagnosed with PTSD. It was very hard for me to be in places where I felt trapped including rides. Hannah was a great Big Bear Mountain ride partner! God is good!
@Adventure Is Out There Oh my goodness. That is my fear as well! It's not the speed or the stomach thing...I can ride anything with shoulder bars or anything I can't "walk out of" at will even if I don't! I have to just be able to leave at will. I had a panic attack on a tilt a whirl once. It was awful. That's why I've never rode tower of terror.
@@janasheets890 I had a panic attack on Peter Pan's Flight when I was really having a hard time with my PTSD. To be able to do this today is a big deal...God is good!
@@AdventureIsOutThere Yes He is. Sounds like you are well on your way to recovery!
@@janasheets890 I thank God for the trials (James 1:2-3) as I am now able to better encourage Brie as she has been discouraged about getting out and doing "normal things" with her vertigo. I just keep reminding her when it comes to recovery it can be a marathon not a sprint!
Have fun
We had a lot of fun at Big Bear Mountain roller coaster Jonathan!
