Actually I get a whole new appreciation for the sport when I see guys like Larry struggling with this weight. I think many people loose the perspective on just how incredibly hard this is. I remember the first time I dead-lifted 200Kg I thought my fucking head will just fly off my torso because of the pressure, now to imagine how it must feel to hold on to 400Kg+ is beyond me...
Man. I used to not even give larry the time of day. I can honestly say I'm suprised by his humility. He's a humble giant. We need more big guys in the world not walking around like final bosses in an RPG game.
There were actually three spotters, but you can’t see him on the far right. There always has to be at least three to four guys sporting with all that darn weight!
@Hidde de Roos he was leaning back holding the bar against the rack things you can actually hold a lot of weight there and he is also very strong. My weightlifting coach talked about it if you can’t get the bar racked all the way hold it against the racks until help comes

Very impressed with this post, humble enough to compile a highlight reel of fails. Great to see that such an elite lifter has his ups and downs like the rest of us.
Just came from the new 420x3 PR and seeing all this progress and fails makes me feel very happy of what Larry becomes now, im very pround of you and u motivate me to keep going even the failures🙏🏻💪🏻
He went down too fast at a very heavy load. I think the momentum made it impossible to stop at the low point obviously as a result of tremendous downward force on knees and ankle. Thats my theory though.
It's just so inspiring to see you trying and giving your best! And it's so nice to see all the people that will support you regardless. Don't you dare stopping to do what you do big man! It's not the weigh you lift that inspire us, or wether you accomplish or not a lift, it's more about the passion and the determination that you have. Honestly who cares if someone fails a lift, it's no big deal.
Not many guys are secure enough to upload something like this onto the internet. Major kudos to Larry Wheels. Was the nicest guy to meet in person as well!

That is not the spotters fault at all. Larry is known for reacting very quickly which is why he is so hard to spot. Larry shifted away so quickly. Even if he did see it straight away, he wouldn't have been able to catch it because of the momentum.
Thought the spotters handled it pretty well. They got the weight off him pretty fast and efficiently. Can’t really expect them to catch 740 pounds, especially with where Larry dropped it and how he was falling backwards at the bottom.
No just replace people (who can't react fast enough) with safety straps. Set them correctly and you'll never have issues, the person can dump the weight safely and avoid injury. God knows why comps still refuse to use a cage and some kind of static safety mechanism.
@@BadatchH Because what if the weight is so heavy that they can't dump the bar behind them? Or what if they fall forwards and the weight goes on their neck?
Showing off your success is one thing. But sharing a compilation of your failures is on a higher level of self confidence. Mad respect to Larry
