Thank you for posting this video, it was very helpful. The flange on my pan took a fair amount of work with the drill to get it to loosen. Eventually, with enough use of the drill, some of the rubber lifted up enough that I was able to grab it and pull the whole thing out with pliers (it was about 3" of rubber). And yes, there was no reason whatsoever for emptying any of the water out of the drain, except if you like sewer gas. But otherwise a very helpful post. Much appreciated!

Just what I was looking for! I hope my removal goes as smoothly. I thought it would be a screw type of drain flange like a tub drain.

Have a question. My stand up shower is just like the vid shown. I'm trying to replace my drain but it seems the drain is a different set up. The rubber that you drilled out is aluminum and there's no way to unscrew it so I can just replace the drain. It seems like it's an older style compressed fitting. There's no retaining nut to unscrew. Ever run into this problem? Seems I have to remove the entire fiberglass board to remove the drain parts.

I've got tile around the shower pan on the floor, and also above the pan in the actual spot where you stand to take a shower. Had it checked out by a plumber who said the layer of tiles on the floor in front of the pan would have to be broken out to get the pan out, but after looking at this, it looks like the tiles on the ground AND the tiles on the wall will need to be removed. Advice?

Is there a way to remove the rubber flange without destroying it? My pan was put down but the floor is not level so parts of it are not touching the ground...

I did just those steps, but the pan would not budge! I drilled out an inch by inch on the front base and with a flashlight saw it was completely CEMENTED down!!! Now What? Really, any ideas...Lennar Homes built this home 8 years ago...did not count on the time to remove that.

Anyone know how to replace the rubber flange without removing the pan for these old fiberglass pans? The flange is deteriorating in mine, I think a reaction to cleaning the pan with a lot of bleach.

My drain has something like lead in it when I tried drilling it. What do I do to remove it as I'm stuck!

Most likely it was lead. I had the same problem. I lost my patience and took a circular saw and cut a square around the drain pipe to remove the shower base (with a respirator of course) ... But wow that really stinks up the house... I used an old junk blade which is probably why, I am not ruining my Diablo blade... I then was able to undercut the drain pipe.

For lead use a screwdriver or chisel with a hammer to bang it out
