Hey guys, both of you were great! Thank you so much for this video. I want to remodel my bathrooms and had no idea that I could cut the tub up like that. I literally thought I would have to have someone help me bring a new tub/shower insert up my stairs. You made it look so easy. I now have the confidence I will be able to handle this remodel job all by myself. Thanks again for the great video! Looking forward to more.
thanks Karen, happy to help. Let us know if you have any questions. We also have a great Video Library over on bathroomrepairtutor.com - well worth checking out
Home Repair Tutor I listened to your introduction video where you commented on being a Platinum member. I don’t see any information regarding this. I only show one price. By joining, does this make me Platinum?
Thank you for this. Tearing out my first MB shower stall. Plastic cover, ram board, cutting in pieces are all things I learned and will follow. Thank you guys!
I watched several videos on this and decide there was too much drywall cut out so I experimented as described below: I first cut around the exterior of the enclosure as close to the walls as possible. When the tub enclosure was removed, in about 10 pieces, I then pried the nailing flange away from the studs just a bit and with a metal blade in my sawsall cut the nails or screws holding the flange on the studs. Then cut the flange at the corners and removed it very little damage to existing wallboard.
Wow! Great video. Been thinking about trying to do a DIY (for the first time😲) I needed to see this..yipes not so sure I should try it now thinking twice now
If I was to try this it would take me all day and I'd be sure to damage stuff, get stuck, not finish it... Gotta be confident and have the knowhow, great vid.
Thanks so much. I plan on removing a shower/tub very similar to this, helps so much. I planned on getting a Wedi offset drain pan shower kit so I don’t have to move around the plumbing. Is there any disadvantage to that? Just curious as you chose a center drain & I want to make the right decision. Also the upper over flow drain ? Pretty easy to rid of? I’ve been watching your shower builds and now that I’m getting ready to do it, overlooked removing the old tub! As well as getting the drain ready. Haha so researching that now. Guess I may have to invest in a better sawzall as well! Thank you again
that's a great option from Wedi, the offset shower pan in particular makes drain assembly a bit easier because the pan can be cut to size. So you're making a good decision. Let us know if you have any questions
Thank you, btw I know you’re big on Ardex 77 , I’m sold on it and I plan to use it for as much as I can. Is it a good thin set to seat the shower pan? As well as mosaic up to plank style tile? Anything it’s not recommended for? The plank tile (24x6” , maybe 36”x6) and 18” tile is the biggest I plan to lay in the house... thanx so much again , you guys are awesome
I would cover the drain, unless I had access to the drain pipes/P trap and intended to change. In this case, I assume the drain pipe and P trap will be altered for the new shower drain.
This is great. Thanks guys. I was planning to replace a similar fiberglass tub/shower with another new fiberglass shower, but I might try this system. Look forward to the next video. Thanks.
+SyberPrepper thanks, the Fundo Primo is a great system for tub to shower conversions. Especially if you want to tile the shower. We’ll have more tips on this system in upcoming videos
I have been a ton of research for my upcoming bathroom remodel. I am leaning on the wedi board but do have some questions regarding wedi. Is it best to ask here or on a different forum?
yeah, you guys are right on. well done, I would have made a mess. Now, I can't wait to dig in. And nice tip on the the "RAM" board. The little things that most don't tell.
On the bottom of tub i have back ceramic splash tile which is 18 inches long and covers over the 1 1/2 cut line of the fiberglass tub. what do you suggest i do with it? i don't want to damage it, but something will have to move to cut the fiberglass to remove the tub. This is outside the wall of the tub at the bottom. the height of it is 4 inches.
Wow, just did 75% of the demo. Still have the water side and tube to cut out. That carbide blade is a good idea, which I failed to take advantage of. My bad. The respirator is also a must. Cutting threw the fiberglass surrounded without one is most definitely not a good idea. COUGH-WHEEZE-COUGH-WHEEZE... Still worth it. Wife very happy. All is well.
my shower tub is cheap fiber glass with walls I want to remove and install walk in shower measure bathroom wall to wall 58 inch but the shower pan I want to buy is 60 inch you think will fit because I cant find 58 inch walking shower pan please advise ?
I just removed a portion of the tub and drywall above but I havent done it near the faucet yet. Do you have to turn off the water main in order to remove the faucet and shower head?
This little ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
So, how long did it take to get all the fiberglass dust out of your lungs? I wore a full Tyvek suit, goggles, gloves, and an N95 mask when I did that. I was feeling the fiberglass in my lungs for days.
Question about the Wedi board. When you trim the Wedi Shower Pan does that mess up the height of the edge? Where the wall tile meets the shower pan I want it to be level. Just wondering if cutting the pan will mess with this.
I had a question about your removal process of the fiberglass shower stall... why did you have to cut the shower stall in sections and cut the sheetrock just to remove the shower stall? Why can't you just cut along the caulking around the edge of the fiberglass shower stall and then just remove the entire fiberglass shower stall in one piece? Thus not needed to damage or cut away any piece of the sheetrock?
Do not cut your bathtub spout off! Go get the allen wrench. The spout fits over a length of pipe if your walls are not a lot thinner you may not have enough pipe left when you install.
I am worried about wires behind by stall. How should i combat this? It is an older house with wires running everywhere. Should I just take it out in small sections?
Hey guys, if you are going to do this, WEAR Protective gear.. A N95 mask, eye protection that wraps around, long sleeves and gloves. Most of these tubs are fiberglass and the dust gets everywhere. It’s not uncommon to get it on your skin and other areas, and fiber rash sucks. Getting it in your eyes or breathing it in, sucks even more. That being said, thanks for the video man!
Home Repair Tutor I have the funky fiberglass tub/shower combo. I thought I could buy new shower tub control and clean it up some. The shower control includes valve. I've watched utube videos and it often breaks during removal. Priced tool at Home Depot, great price, $10+\-
I wish he would have shown the other tool to remove the drain if the cross members of the drain had been rusted away. Besides than that I wish this guy worked for me! Lol

I noticed that the one you took that off the wall why didn't have any screws in the drywall at the top so you took it apart
Thank you for this. Tearing out my first MB shower stall. Plastic cover, ram board, cutting in pieces are all things I learned and will follow. Thank you guys!
awesome, happy to help. What kind of shower are you going to build?
Thank you, this was sooo helpful. My tub/shower is vintage 1979. I can do this!
I watched several videos on this and decide there was too much drywall cut out so I experimented as described below: I first cut around the exterior of the enclosure as close to the walls as possible. This video was a huge help for me. Thank you!
Very helpful! Now I feel much more confident taking my shower tub out now!
Always try to look behind the unit to see if there are any wiring you might cut . Good job!
I have same fiberglass shower, now I know what I'm against when I have to do what you did. Thumbs up!!
+LessThanHandy Thanks, hopefully the tips help. As you saw, it’s not too bad
Wow! Great video. Been thinking about trying to do a DIY (for the first time😲) I needed to see this..yipes not so sure I should try it now thinking twice now
Let us know if you have any questions. What kind of project is it?
You're a life saver. Boss has me demoing a bathroom and I've never taken out a fiberglass shower before >.>
Good video! Why do things look easier when someone else does it?
Lol I agree. But it’s years of experience and know how.
Right?
If I was to try this it would take me all day and I'd be sure to damage stuff, get stuck, not finish it... Gotta be confident and have the knowhow, great vid.
Right?
Thank you for this tutorial! I’m about to do mine today.

Awesome video guys. You make it look very easy. Great tips... Please show how to extend the shower drain. Need to start on my project asap.
+Ahmed Chiboub we’ll be doing the Plumbing next and then the shower pan
This was helpful. I'm turning a downstairs bathroom into a utlity/mud room and I needed to know how to get the shower out ;)
loved it. I'm doing exactly the same thing with what appears to be an almost identical shower / tub surround!
Love demo day!
I would cover the drain, unless I had access to the drain pipes/P trap and intended to change. In this case, I assume the drain pipe and P trap will be altered for the new shower drain.
Great video guys! Steve kicked some butt on that quick demo, he made is look easy! Thumbs up
thanks, he doesn’t waste any time
I have a similar situation at home, I want to tile my shower and I was wondering if you are going to hang new Sheetrock after you remove the old tub?
we installed Wedi building panels for the new shower
This is great. Thanks guys. I was planning to replace a similar fiberglass tub/shower with another new fiberglass shower, but I might try this system. Look forward to the next video. Thanks.
+SyberPrepper thanks, the Fundo Primo is a great system for tub to shower conversions. Especially if you want to tile the shower. We’ll have more tips on this system in upcoming videos
Do you have a number 2 video so we can see what to do after this?
Great job guys! Would love to see this from demo to finish. Keep it up!
Thanks Joseph, we have all the shower building videos on our UA-cam channel
I have been a ton of research for my upcoming bathroom remodel. I am leaning on the wedi board but do have some questions regarding wedi. Is it best to ask here or on a different forum?
Here is fine
I love your videos so much, thank you guys
So helpful, thanks!
Thank you. This helps me so
Much! I will let you know how I do.
And he did it without gloves 😱👏
yeah, you guys are right on. well done, I would have made a mess.
Now, I can't wait to dig in. And nice tip on the the "RAM" board. The little things that most don't tell.
+Eric Womack thanks man, appreciate your kind words.
What backer board do you use as well as sealant waterproofing?
Really good job.

Thanks for the great video…… don’t worry/think about the haters out there!!
Hi, great stuff guys. what happens if there is black mold after pulling the old shower box?
Replace the rot
Unfortunately it means you better fix it asap I'm going through the same issue now
Highly appreciate to show in a detail
do u have a link for the video how to install the shower pan after this thx
yes, here’s the entire series for the Wedi shower system ua-cam.com/play/PLqAYY_CdB8gqW6gbONMQ5X_4sP-CWCWxz.html

Man, is this a Sawzall commercial?! I *NEED* one of those!
I love the kids drawing
nice job 👍🏻 thank you 🙏🏼
Great video, it helped me out. Thank you!

Very impressed. Thanks.
Nice video. Thanks for the tutorial!

Great job learned a ton
Awesome video. You guys made that look easy. Always wondered about how you do that. Now I feel like I could do it. Thanks!
+J Parra thanks, ya Steve made this look easy. And it’s not as bad as you’d think
Now I feel I can’t. Hiring a pro 😂 but now I know what they should be doing 👍🏾
So, how long did it take to get all the fiberglass dust out of your lungs? I wore a full Tyvek suit, goggles, gloves, and an N95 mask when I did that. I was feeling the fiberglass in my lungs for days.
Tu guys this was very helpful

Great job guys!
do you typically replace the plywood under the shower?
depends on the condition but often that’s the case
Thanks!!!
Steve’s da Man!
This video was awesome!!! Keep it up!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video!
thanks, hopefully we do more LIVE videos
I had a question about your removal process of the fiberglass shower stall... why did you have to cut the shower stall in sections and cut the sheetrock just to remove the shower stall? Why can't you just cut along the caulking around the edge of the fiberglass shower stall and then just remove the entire fiberglass shower stall in one piece? Since they are going replace the sheet rock for the new shower installation. It was no reason to preserve the old sheet rock
Definitely learned! Thanks
great video!
Love it. Motivated now. Thank you!!!!
Awesome, what kind of project are you doing?
Need a video that shows hiw to remove vaneer shower surrounds without removal of sheet rock. Contact cement was used on recent install.
Ideas.
Good luck. Lol
Such good aim! I'd be putting in extra holes.
Thanks
can fiberglass be recycled?
Was there alot of dust while cutting fiberglass shower???
💯💯💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Can't wait to get a wedi.
Great video!!!!
thanks, we'll have more videos from this remodel soon! The latest one just came out today
So they make it more expensive on you if you wanna replace it?
Did you have to get a permit to do this?
Turn up your volume!....
Looks pretty nice. Why would you want to tear it out?
It’s becoming a trip hazard for the client, they have to step over the tub to get in the shower
Awesome work guys. Video, keep up the awesomeness.
Thanks man, appreciate your support 👍
How much did you charge for that? Looking to do it in my bathroom, just curious.
jjaflag@gmail.com
that's the longest level i've ever seen, cool
well didnt catch live but still useful
thanks
when the water gets cut back on, won't the water start coming through the faucet?
How do I order the Wedi kit from you?
+Ahmed Chiboub email us at jeff@bathroomrepairtutor.com
Noticed wall boards not screwed to many studs which makes removal easier, you were lucky.
Nice video.. hopefully you will replace it with some wedi board!
+Flannel Guy DIY lol, yep. That’s the next step after the mixing valve. Thanks
Do not cut your bathtub spout off! Go get the allen wrench. The spout fits over a length of pipe if your walls are not a lot thinner you may not have enough pipe left when you install.
We replace the tub spout pipe for the new shower or sometimes convert to a shower, which doesn't need it
I am worried about wires behind by stall. How should i combat this? It is an older house with wires running everywhere.
Should I just take it out in small sections?

Just very helpful when I do hire someone to take our 5' shower out and replace it - you guys want to come do that for me? :D
Oh wow. I just assumed it was just glued in. I'm feeling a little green at the idea of putting holes in my wall like that.
i liek the part where i turned up the volume for the voice, skipped a bit, and woke up the entire neighborhood when the saw came to life.
A respirator would be nice here. 👍
Is it just me? My volume is all the way up and I can't hardly hear what you guys are saying.
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher Look at your monitor bottom right corner and see if there is a speaker icon. Click on it and slide the volume up.
22:41 So that's what a half-bath is.
Be great to see the plumbing part.
We have a few mixing valve installation videos on UA-cam. Is that what you need?
Home Repair Tutor I have the funky fiberglass tub/shower combo. I thought I could buy new shower tub control and clean it up some. The shower control includes valve. I've watched utube videos and it often breaks during removal. Priced tool at Home Depot, great price, $10+\-
As I always said to my girlfriends, "It looks like you've done this before."
Miso Honey 😂😂
Can I just take off the walls and leave the tub??
Also wear gloves when handling fiberglass showers, especially one's that have jagged edges.
What if I have concrete under my shower insert (I believe I do). Single story house with concrete slab.
What "electrician" is fishing an electrical line behind a shower horizontally lol. Looks to be an exterior wall because it has insulation?
I'm afraid to cut through my fiberglass shower because I have no clue what's behind it.
There's probably plenty of room (4" or so) if you have a fiberglass insert bath/shower.
I'm guessing I'll be replacing the drywall behind mine once I'm through. 🤷♂️
I wish he would have shown the other tool to remove the drain if the cross members of the drain had been rusted away. Besides than that I wish this guy worked for me! Lol
Thanks, Steve, this was a very helpful tutorial. You're handsome by the way.
