I remember drooling over a Pioneer brochure back in 1981 with the newly released Pioneer 909 reel to reel with fluroscan display. And on the last page they had "THE RACK"....which consisted of many of their best components in a 2 row rack configuration. I wanted that thing soooo bad as a teenager 😢
I actually dont like those magazines, because i see lots of thing that would love to have and most of those things are not available to buy or prices are crazy :D Cheers!
Agreed - I do seem to be looking for more Hitachi cassette decks in Japan since I shot this video. There was a D-909 calling my name last week, but I have no money right now to buy it.

In the early to mid 80s the currency conversion was about 200-250 yen to the dollar, so not quite as expensive, but still chunk of change im 1980s
In 1983 the Japanese yen-U.S. dollar exchange rate was 245 yen per dollar. Today its 143.
Toshiba have brought back the aurex name but not Japanese made I don't think
