As someone else said - this saved my 5020! One thing you should mention, which I found on someone else's video: when you check the voltages, you have to do it in the first 2 seconds. Once the blue blinks start, the power supply shuts off and you get 0 volts everywhere. Once again though - thanks!
Hi norcal715. Thank you very much for this great video. I got the 8 blink problem on my Pioneer PDP-LX5090H I changed the IC 7951 and my favourite TV is working perfect!!!! The cost of the IC 7951 was 2,20E thank you again.!!
Great Video. I bought the chip from Digi Key part # NJM2846DL3-18-TE1CT-ND . I used the weller pyropen with the standard 4.5 mm tip which worked well. One mistake when I was removing the chip I inadvertently tore the copper trace from two of the pin positions. Make sure to heat ALL OF THE POINTS OF CONTACT when removing chip GENTLY. Really important to use the flux and hold the chip in place down when soldering new chip to the torn traces when cooling solder. The torn traces act like mini springs. I used a soldering iron to solder the outputs to the traces once the main chip was set. Took about an hour from set removal to replacement. Again well done NorCAL 715 !!
Norcal. I just want to say Thank you so much for putting this video online. Long story short I was able to repair my TV for $ 24.48 total. It works awesome and thank you again very much. Way Cool!!!
Thanks So much. Fixed my TV yesterday. This is the way to do it. Don't cut the legs with the micro-wire cutters - De-Solder only! and remove the PCB it is easy, just a few more screws and some ribbon connections. The PCB is delicate go easy, almost ruined my PCB by tearing off the bottom leg's contact from the board when trying to cut it off with wire cutters.
I found a temporary fix. I have my TV and entertainment receiver, and DVD and other peripherals all plugged into a surge protector. The TV must be recognizing that there is too much of a voltage draw on that electrical circuit and giving me the 8 blinking lights. I took a nice fat 8 extension cord and plugged in just the TV into another circuit in another room and the TV works normally again. I will probably buy a new smart TV but for people having similar problem, they might try this temporary fix.
Hey, I've got the same TV, a Pioneer KURO PRO 151FD, I found it a couple weeks ago on a CURB! being thrown away, And I realized on site how special of a TV it was and I brought it home and plugged it in and it turned on and lo! It worked! But after it warmed up, and I turn it off and went to turn it back on, I noticed it had the eight blink issue. So, after doing some research, I found out how common that is and I ordered some of the regulators from eBay They arrived but they were all defective so I try to hack and I wired in an adjustable voltage regulator, I said it to 1.8 volts and I soldered it in to pins two and four and I got the TV to work, But I had the voltage regulator powered by a 5 volt wall wart, So I tried to find a 5 volt source on the IO board and I did, And I soldered a line from a 5 volt source and from a ground point through this adjustable voltage regulator and I thought I was done and I went to test it and now I haven't ate blink problem that won't go away even though the components are receiving 1.8 volts. I'm worried I broke or desoldered some other component and now I'm doing circuit analysis to try and find out what I could have done. And of course the entire world is out of stock of the boards AWW1353 or 1352. So I'm watching all of these videos that have to do with this board and this problem. It sucks because I had it working! Back to the workbench... Wish me luck because I've been doing this for 2 days straight and will be doing it all day today, too. I can't give up on this TV.
I just tried using my $20 compact Wall Lenk LSP-25 butane powered soldering iron (with tip remove) to unsolder a surface mount chip like you did with your Weller Pyropen at 3:35. To my surprise, it worked pretty well. Thanks for the idea.
I just did this repair on my PRO-151FD and it worked great! I got the IC from Mouser.com and decided to get 3 of the chips for $2.00 and I am glad I did cuz the first attempt the chip was bad but the second one did the trick.
Randy Saucerman great job on your repair,I order the part but the thing is that I'm getting 1.8v on the old IC and not 3.4v on the input, can this mean that the IC is working and not the board?Im going to replace it regardless but I don't know if not having 3.4v input is also a problem with the Regulator, thanks.
Thank Norcal for the video. And thank you for replying so quickly :) I'm hopeful to get the same results. By any chance - did you happen to look for or notice an accompanying orange blink code? The service manual mentions that if you hit the display button during the blue blinking, you get a secondary orange blink code :) Just anxious to find if I have the same issue that y'all do.
Excellent vídeo, thank you very much, just one question How did you know it was that particular regulator that was causing the trouble?, I mean did you read about it somewhere? Again Thanks!
Yes the Pioneer plasma's are some of the best with the best black level not to be surpassed!. Too bad they stopped making them. From what I understand the engineer from Pioneer (with the Kuro design) went to the design team for Panasonic Plasma (which is the brand I currently recommend)
Plasma Pioneer is more alive than all the living. Do you think this failure may be due to the connection of 4 Ohm speakers, instead of the recommended 6-16 ohms. Bought recently LX5090 (111FD)
Did the same repair on my 8 year old PDP-lx5090 just yesterday - only other help the service manual for this model. It is now up and running again - thanks for your very brilliant video.
+Dann Hansen Hello Dann I have the same model lx5090h, do you put the same part as on the video ? this one: www.digikey.ca/product-detail/en/NJM2846DL3-18-TE1/NJM2846DL3-18-TE1CT-ND/718327
This video is worth it's weight in gold! I just finished replacing that chip and my set is back in business. Another Kuro Elite "saved from the landfill". Thanks norcal715 for making this public and teaching men to fish. On a side note this problem and solution has re-sparked my interest in electronics again. I'm going to make sure I try to adsorb as much as I can.
Tony C I don't know what specifically you're asking. The best I can tell you is too carefully remove cabling until you get the board isolated and then remove it. The one thing I can tell you the white connector in the upper left of the board is pretty tough to remove. The one with the bare rigid wires showing. So be careful with that one.
I have a pioneer 6020. My standby light blinks red 15 times. In your video it is only eight. Would this signify a different component that has failed. Appreciate the help as I want to keep this one alive best picture on the market even today.
Hi Steve, how are you, help plz, my multimeter doest show any voltage on those pins switch the regulator(new one), and still the same problem, (i do not see any voltage on test point too)thanks
8 Blue blinks indicated a data communication problem with the AV jack micro and main micro, and a simple check determined the supply voltage was missing.
I see in the video where you put the red lead but where do you put the black lead while testing? EDIT: Found the answer below. For some reason the answer below eluded me.
Thanks for posting. As asked by another reviewer where do you place the negative probe of the voltage tester? I looked for a common ground test point but didn't see one
I have the 5020 fd and the problem occurs, if you hard power off for several hours the unit will wok fine. and will run forever when warm the unit will not power up and gives 8 blinks, .. can this regulator problem only occur on warm tvs or is there another possible problem??
Great video! During the replacement of the regulator chip unfortunately the resistors R7953 and R7951 came loose and were lost in a carpet which I've searched for without luck. I've decided to replace them. According to the service manual these resistors are " Other Resistors RS1/16SS###J " I have yet to find a value for these resistors. Can anyone please inform me what their value is please. I cannot find any information mentioning the details of this Pioneer part number. Thanks!
Hi, I have a PDP6070PU that went out with 8 blue blinking lights. I believe the voltage regulator chip is out. Is it true about putting freeze spray on it and it will get it working again?
I have the exact model in the video. I followed the exact procedure outlined in the video. I did not find the the 3.5 input voltage at pin 2; I had nothing. What does that mean?
this is a great video. One question I have is where do you place the other lead of your volt meter to test the IC regulator? I see the red lead goes on the test point or pin 4 but I'm curious about the black lead.
Hi, thanks for this great video! I have a Pioneer Plasma KRP-500P / KRP-M01 (media box) which have started to fail quite frequently with 8 blue blinks. I'm searching information how to repair this tv-set. Have you ever done any similar repair on a KRP-M01?
HI, I have the pioneer PDP 5050SX with sudden 3 times red flashing light, Screen is black, sound is out, only it respond to remote control by going to green light and then back to flashing red light, I love this TV, any idea what could have went wrong with it?
I'm going to give this a shot with my M01 media receiver. 8 Blue blinks. My issue only shows up on changing HDMI Input after being on for a short while or 50/60Hz switches (ie moving from 50hz Pal to 60hz game on HDMI. Box always cold boots perfectly fine. But it's getting too annoying having to put system to standby to let it cool down for a while before switching.
I have the same issue on my 5020 but it sometimes turns on after I take the power cable out and then back in...it looks also like a HDMI handshake issue?
I have a different question on a 2006 Pioneer Elite Plasma 60" TV. Over time, the tv screen has got faint red lines that run from top right hand corner of the screen and run 1/2 to 1/3 way down the screen. One line developed and then a 2nd and now a 3rd. How do I fix the screen so the red lines that have turned white go away?
Hi: I have a Pioneer Elite model pro-507pu and I have a 5 blue blink lights, when I turn the TV on said Is there a short in speaker cable? The code it show is SD05, is this the same circuit that you replace in the video?
hello i am having the problem with the 3 sets of 8 blue blinking ligts and then just makes a click sound and will not even turn on at all could this be the problem i have sodered capasitters b4 but never a flat chip like this thanks hope to hear from you
My Pro-151FD has the 8 blue blinks but has the correct voltage to the voltage IC regulator. I've already replaced the main power supply board. Do you have any ideas for me to try?
HI Norcal - found this video, ordered three new regulators, hopefully this will do the trick. Thanks for posting, hope I have the same exact problem that you did. Question: did you recall what the accompanying orange blink code was? Apparently if you hit "DISPLAY" on the TV's remote, it'll give a bit more information and give a secondary orange blink patern. Mine blinks once on orange. Anyone seen this?
Pieco Did you ever resolve your issue? Did you follow the replacement in this video or go a different route? I have the same single orange blink as the subcode after pressing DISPLAY on the remote. Thanks!
I just performed this repair and back in action for 9 dollars on 2 voltage regs and shipping . Found someone to change it out for 10 Dollars... 19 dollar repair .. The only thing is I never noticed the fans working before and they still do not work.. Any Ideas? Thnx nborcal715
I'm having a similar problem with a Pioneer 4270 plasma. The red standby LED blinks seven times, pauses, blinks seven times... If the TV is unplugged then plugged back in, the red led will come back on with no blinking, but when I try to turn it on from the small on/standby button on the right side of the TV, it will come on for a few seconds, then go back into red LED blinking mode.
Hi, love my Pioneer PDP-5020FD, I had it for 12 year and lately it turn off by it self and won't turn on until I unplug it for an hour or so, is it the same issue, thanks
I HAVE THAT SAME PROBLEM WITH MY TV CAN I FIND THAT PART IS THAT PART STILL AVAILABLE FOR ME TO FIND??? CAN YOU RECOMMEND ME WHERE TO GO AND GET IT REPLACED OR IF NOT SOMEONE THAT CAN DO IT FOR ME IM LOCATED IN THE NYC AREA IN THE BRONX
Thx you NorCal715 for you guide . I have PDP LX6090 with AWW 1354 board and i change the IC 7951 regulator but behavior with 8 blue blinks are the same ( totally same like with old regulator ) . Tv will turn on only if is very very coold . Maybe i got bad regulator :-( . Please guys any help or advice Update: I measure in and out of the regulator , and values are 1.8v 3.3v , so must be something else wrong
Can you just replace the entire board the chip sets on? If so what is the part number? I started to try and replace and broke the chip off. IN the process I peeled some the the circuit board with it.....
Does anyone have a video or instructions on how to open the PDP-6020FD set and how to remove the power supply board? Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi. I have Pioneer PDP4304 that I bought from Costco 8 years ago. When powering from a cold turn on, the TV takes 20-25 minutes for the picture to completely show up. It starts from the center and then the pixels start to come on little by little. after the picture comes on fully the TV works like a charm. What could be wrong with this TV? Is it easily fixable?
Urgh. So in my case, the regulator does power up to 1.8v on pin 4, but then kicks down to zero after a relay "clunk". In the video, it appears that the regulator never outputs 1.8v at all. Not sure I have the same issue :(
Hey, I did this repair on a Pioneer PRO-151FD with this issue and it seems to work better now, but still won't start sometimes and shows 8 blinks. Cold startup always works, but turn it off and back on and often it still fails to start. Anyone got any tips? I really hope to save this thing!
So what brings you here? lol....I had the same problem with a different version of this screen. Power interruption would give me the 8 flashing blue lights of death. I could drain the unit for a week or so and it would fire up eventually. The problem was with abrupt interruptions. I purchased a UPS for around $100 (there are cheaper) and that solved the problem. The screen has been working flawlessly for a year now, with power interruptions. This IC method would no work on my particular unit. The key is continuous power. It's a band-aid of sorts but pretty cost effective in the long run.
Algoron, what do you mean by abrupt interruptions? Do you mean that there are fluctuations in your home power source when turning on the set which causes this? Did you purchase a standby or continuous USB? Thanks.
Hello, I have the 8 Blue Blinks showing up every time my Signature Elite Pro 141-FD does not receive an HDMI video signal (this model is the monitor version of 151-FD). Otherwise the monitor works fine, as long as it receives a "proper HDMI signal". I want to ask about a few differences and verify that I need to replace the same part. I opened the monitor and found that my ASSY board is "AWW1373" and the voltage regulator has a slightly different code on it:846180 is the same but bellow I have J1 8C instead of J1 5C as in the video. Also the labels around the regulator are different: L5304, R5321, IP4512, IC 5302, couldn't find the IC7951. The parts I found online seem to correspond to the part code in the video, not the IC7951 but NJM2846DL3-18: www.digikey.com/classic/Ordering/AddPart.aspx I took a pic of the part and surroundings but I don't know how to paste it here... To me it seems that there is an HDMI negotiation problem between my PC and the monitor, this didn't use to happen until about a few weeks ago. Is there any way I can reset the TV from the service menu and see if this resolves the problem? I am not really sure that I have to change the part because other than stuttering heavily until I get a clear signal the monitor works fine, actually great... Thank you for your videos and tutorials. Dan
I received the IC 7951. I have problem to take out the IC board (has the IC 7951 on). Can anyone teach me how to take out the IC board so that I can change the IC 7951?
elektrotanya.com/pioneer_pro-141fd_krp-600m.pdf/download.html You probably took care of it by now but above you can find the service manual and instructions on how to remove the ASSY board from your TV.
Great video, I have same problem with my KURU 6020, I found the regulator but I have no volts on no# 2 pin. or no# 4 pin. I did the test with the blue light flashing. Can you help.

I got the 8 blink problem on my Pioneer PDP-LX5090H
I changed the IC 7951 and my favourite TV is working perfect!!!! The cost of the IC 7951 was 2,20E
thank you again.!!
Do you have any ideas for me to try?
i get this problem only when switching inputs on my receiver or when a component powers down. is this common?
Hello, I got the 6020fd, 8 blinks, but my regulator has e.e in and it is outputting 1.8.. Where else can I look ? Thx
Thanks!
I enjoyed your video. Wouldn't the heating of the component potentially damage it?
+Michael Swindal NO, They can handle very high heat.
What part number and manufacturer did you use for the replacement part?
Can you tell me the model of soldering iron to desolder the chip?
Hi, love my Pioneer PDP-5020FD, I had it for 12 year and lately it turn off by it self and won't turn on until I unplug it for an hour or so, is it the same issue, thanks
Sounds like the regulator is getting flaky
Hi Norcal. Great video, thanks. Can you tell me the part number of the video? I am having trouble finding it.
Many thanks
Please guys any help or advice
Update: I measure in and out of the regulator , and values are 1.8v 3.3v , so must be something else wrong
Will this work on a PDP-6010FD?
Do you know the model of your Pyropen ...?
I can't find one that has that tip...
I have a pioneer plasma PDP 425CMX is it a TV or display
your skills are amazing
A good search for my TV and problem found this post that is my problem
I have a Pioneer PDP-5040HD, I turn tv on, then immediately turns off. Red stand by light blinks 3 times. What could be the problem?
What is the max temperature of the heat gun I could use to not damage the IC ? great

Can you just replace the entire board the chip sets on? If so what is the part number? I started to try and replace and broke the chip off. IN the process I peeled some the the circuit board with it.....
+Ryan Hook YES you can replace the board. The number is printed right on the board! doesn't take a rocket scientist to find it!
Beautiful! Thankyou!
Does anyone have a video or instructions on how to open the PDP-6020FD set and how to remove the power supply board? Any help would be much appreciated.
I have replace the regulator but I am still getting the a blue blinks after on for a while and I turn it off and then turn it back on

Thank you for sharing this information with us.
Hello norcal715,
I own a Pioneer KRP500A, could you tell me what is the location of IC regulator to change.
Thank you,
Hi
Can you please tell me what value R7953 The resistor just under the IC7951 I have knocked it off the board and have lost it?
Urgh. So in my case, the regulator does power up to 1.8v on pin 4, but then kicks down to zero after a relay "clunk". In the video, it appears that the regulator never outputs 1.8v at all.
Not sure I have the same issue :(
aewsum video thank you
How much would this repair cost?
Thanks.
Always learning from your channel.
The parts I found online seem to correspond to the part code in the video, not the IC7951 but NJM2846DL3-18: www.digikey.com/classic/Ordering/AddPart.aspx
I took a pic of the part and surroundings but I don't know how to paste it here... Dan
+Dan Totan I agree - it looks kind of like an HDMI issue - did you resolve it?
Wow found this so far no problems but imagine eventually pro 151 fd feb 2009 sticker
Mitsubishi unisen is blinking the light all the time; code say is the flow air es open; what is mean; can you explain that; please.
Great video
thank you so much am x army engineer can fix or build any thing save me some money and I got some more cool tools
I received the IC 7951. I have problem to take out the IC board (has the IC 7951 on). Can anyone teach me how to take out the IC board so that I can change the IC 7951?

You probably took care of it by now but above you can find the service manual and instructions on how to remove the ASSY board from your TV.
Great channel, thank you.
Great video, I have same problem with my KURU 6020, I found the regulator but I have no volts on no# 2 pin. or no# 4 pin. I did the test with the blue light flashing. Can you help.
I have the same issue. I see that your issue was sometime ago. But did you gain a solution...
