That's incorrect. Guzheng is actually an ancestor of koto and Japanese borrowed many Chinese styles of playing. Historically, Chinese civilization is way more ancient than other East Asian cultures. If you look at Japanese or Korean musical instruments you'll find that most of them came from China. No, it doesn't mean that Japanese or Korean cultures aren't unique. They are. But it's just wrong to speak antihistorically

Sakura Sakura uses the miyako-bushi scale which is closer to our A Phrygian Pentatonic and Interstellar's main theme is in A natural minor and is literally a motif repeated over and over again. They are very different. It's incredibly annoying when someone hears a pedal point melody or a minor interval and decides it must be plagiarism because they're musically illiterate.

Beautiful! I put my harp in the pentatonic scale as my harp is turned to E flat major, this allowed me to copy the sound of the Koto remarkably.
