Seems like they are really playing into that line from Shireen in GoT 5.9, when she was discussing the Dance of the Dragons with her father Stannis: "I wouldn't have chosen either. It was all the choosing sides that made everything so horrible."
Shireen was totally right though! I respect and appreciate the double trailers marketing thing, but the dance is a tragedy - all it brought was death and division. Choosing a side is fun as a viewer (I do love Rhae to bits) but we aren't supposed to seriously support either side.

But it’s not as simple as that, by not choosing you become a threat too both sides, and when the one side wins you could lose everything for not choosing a side, no matter what sooner or later a dragon is knocking on your door, and once you choose you have to stick with it because both blacks and greens do not tolerate those who switch sides

Going into season 2 I think the character that will surprise most is Aegon. They did a good job of presenting him in a certain way in the trailers that will allow for expectations to be subverted - I can’t wait!

When you try to understand Alicents thought process during Viserys deathbed speech, you have to remember that Viserys previously showed her how much he doubted his choice in Rheanyra due to his dreams when he was drunk in front of the fire back in episode 3. In Alicents mind, a major reason why he hasn't given Aegon the heir title is because he loves Rheanyra too much to disinherit her and break his promise to her. This could also be why he decides not to grow close to his sons because he fears they should be Rheanyra's replacements but he grows close to Healena somewhat because she's likely not getting the throne in his mind.
Funny thing is he really did love her to the point where he didn't care what everyone thought about having a actually woman running things it gets me mad at the fact everyone argues with the family who runs shit if they decide this is this then it shouldn't be question in my opinion just like when vamond his brother wanted this so he went against his brothers wishes regularless if he's right they ain't his blood it don't matter someone in a seat above your opinion chose that.

That's a great point about marketing. HBO made an extremely smart move by releasing 2 trailers for each installment. But at the same time, they pushed the fans even more. As Martin used to say, "if you chose a side, then I screwed up." After all , this is a tragedy within one family , a war that tore apart Westeros and the dynasty
Greens are definitely more complex. No doubt about it. As an aspiring writer, I like the agrees more
Alicent heard what she wanted to hear. It makes no sense Viserys after 20 years change his mind in the last minute while in the same day he make that painfull walk to the throne just to backup Rhaenyra and her children, make a whole last feast and still dont say nothing about change his mind. Why would he change in the last minute and tell only Alicent when in rhe same day he defended Rhaenyra and he claim to the throne? It doesnt make sense at all
Alicent knew something no one else did. Viserys while drunk confided in her and showed her how unsure he in his decision to keep Rheanyra as his heir as his dreams told him that he should have a male heir. Alicent over the years has likely come to the conclusion that the main reason Viserys keeps Rheanyra as his heir is because he loves her too dearly to disinherit her.
This would also explain why Viserys is distant with his sons but not so much his daughter (healena). If he grows to love his sons as much as Rheanyra, it will be over for her and he just couldn't bear the thought.
So i dont think Alicent just heard what she wanted to hear, to her, this was Viserys telling her that his dreams have a lead over his heart and Aegon should wear the crown. Alicent also didn't think he would die that night so her saying "I understand" implies that she believed wholeheartedly that her and Viserys are on the same page.
Feel free to debunk this, its just my observation.

I agree, the greens are the ones who are the most interesting. Alicent, the most, I find it mad in the first season peoples negative reaction to her specifically when she was a child. However, no one would hate on the many male characters who do and say much worse.

Team Green, I love characters on both sides but I find their side is more compelling and complex.
Let's be thankful they got a new costume designer! Cannot wait to see how everything looks! Also I love the way you looked at th epoint where people support Aegon because he was sort of forced onto the realm, whereas with Rhaenyra's supporters, they chose her! I like that a lot!
It's not that there wouldn't be any man lords to support Rhaenyra, it's that there were always gonna be lords who wouldn't. Something that would never happen for a male heir, whose succession would have never been questioned. So, I agree that wanting power is most likely the main motivation for the greens but I can't keep but believing that there's also an element of fear for survival. If there were enough lords to think that Aegon is the rightful heir, the lives of the greens would always depend on being fully, unquestionably loyal to Rhaenyra and making sure she never even gets the suspicion that they're plotting against her. This requires a tremendous amount of trust between the two fractions, which has never been established.

The blacks supporters chose to support Rhaenyra same way that the green supporters chose to support Aegon - Aegon being crowned first doesn’t change anything. His men are still fighting for their King same way Rhaenyra’s men are fighting for their Queen.
I'm team black because as mother i understand Rhaenyra, losing her father, unborn baby, her crown, her throne, her son Lucerys, i would kill everybody if my son died the way Lucerys died, no mother should bury her children, our children are our future!
And because of that, you will end up losing the rest of your children and yourself, in some words you are killing your own kids and commiting suicide like happened to Rhaenyra so I wonder if u guys are ok with your heads.

I don't consider myself a green or a black. both sides will are in their rights and wrong, will commit aristocratic things, war crimes etc. but I have my favorites on each side. Aemond is my personal favorite (despite the HORRIBLE things he will do in the Riverlands) because I find him sympathetic and relatable. I’ve liked Aemond since he first appeared as a 10-year-old kid and now I can’t wait to see him in season 2. I love his character. His anger, his valuer, his boldness, his ambition, his arrogance, impulsiveness, and all his mistakes. He’s by no means perfect and that’s why I love his character so much. This kid was bullied pretty severely, which automatically makes me feel bad for him. Also, his own father didn't give a shit when his eye got cut out, which also makes me feel bad for him. Theres also a level of respect there. Despite no depth perception, he fought to overcome it and became a skilled fighter. He's well educated and works hard to study. And he's dedicated and fiercely loyal to his family. He's absolutely the best character in the show, (alongside Daemon) especially if we think about the little time he spends on screen and the impact that he has among us watching the show. And the show is making him much even more layered. He clearly shows remorse for killing Luke and tried to stop Vhagar from doing it, so he's not a senseless psychopath. It was a tragedy that settled the doom. Episode 10 solidified something I realized during episode 8-Aemond is a dumb kid who thinks he’s invincible. He doesn’t think or understand the full ramifications of his actions. I feel like some people forget that at the beginning of the dance Aemond is like 18 or 19 years old and I hope this episode helped everyone remember. Just a dumb arrogant kid.
He’s so filled with anger and arrogance he ends up hurting so many others in the process as a result of his actions. The domino effect of a teenage boy’s mistake (albeit murderous mistake) will have consequences felt by everyone he cares about. After blood and cheese and what it does to Helaena - i think that he will completly fall into madness and is on a path of destruction. (Burn the Riverlands) Anyways, I can’t wait to see him as the show goes on and I especially can’t wait to see his relationship with Alys. Not to mention Ewan Mitchell is doing an epic job bringing the character to life. He deserves all the praises.

This idea of polarizing the audience is good; but I find it difficult to root for the Greens when their cause is based on an obvious misunderstanding and a self-fullfilled profecy, you know, the idea that no one will accept a Queen, well..., THEY are the ones not accepting a Queen. So, as Sofie says, no side cares for the good of the realm. It's all about ambition and egos, but at least you get some sense of purpose from the Blacks and you feel more sympathy for them, especially for Rhaenyra. So I hope this part of the campaign makes us sympathize more with the Greens, the way we passed in GoT from hating to loving the Lannisters.
I really don't like this misunderstanding element. To me both teams already have perfectly reasonable motives. For the greens it's the fact that Rhaenyra married Daemon who she specifically supplanted as the heir because everyone understood he's dangerous + will likely kill Alicent's sons like he killed Vaemond, and she has bastard as her heir. For the blacks it's the fact Rhaenyra is being usurped because of misogyny + the same obvious danger of death for her children from Otto. In the end it doesn't matter who's "the rightful" because neither Aegon nor Rhaenyra are capable rulers, but either side has compelling reasons to go to war to save themselves
@@kurhanchyk Those are good points and I agree both sides have reasons to go to war to protect themselves; however, despite their reasons being understandable, I don't feel they are relatable. I mean, they don't make ME feel like I want the Greens to win. The thing is that placing Rhaenyra as heir instead of Daemon was Otto's idea and then his daughter marrying the king and having male heirs was also his machination. And the part of Rhaenyra's bast ards... well... I don't care, because obviously I see it with my XXI century eyes. You know, I understand the Greens' arguments but I don't feel invested with them.

I would still choose Aegon because he can be manipulated by his competent counselors. Rhaenryra had the chance to build alliances but instead had to rely on her father to protect her from all the mistakes SHE made.
I choose the side that will not destabilize the realm and that will respect the traditions and culture of westeros.....granted my choice would be Rhaenys over the horrible two choices of Aegon and Rhaenyra.
Watching the TDOD, we should have realized there was no chance that dany would stay on the throne for long. I always find poetic that house targaryen dies with dany like Tudor dynasty died with Elizabeth I.

There is no feud among fans... It is clear that the Hightowers are stealing the throne. No debate. Even Alicent knows it.... she even knew she was being used by her own father! She simply feels that putting a male on the throne would be better. I think she knows and doesn't want to acknowledge, that Viserys was actually talking to Princess Rhaenyra since he was saying things she didn't know about as if the person to whom he was speaking was supposed to already know this information. Besides, most fans already know the outcome!

Aegon probably had a full blown WAR on his mind for quite sometime after B&C. I suspect Otto still wanted to solve this using diplomacy. But when it failed... "Good... to war then" is just an expected announcement.
It's like you wanted to go to McD but your friend said he knows a fancy restraunt. But when the place is full, you give the same reaction as Aegon. "Well... to McD then..."

But to be specific there is not law in Westeros for woman to taking the throne Vicerys knew what he was doing be making woman heir he avoided war but he created the biggest one and he left mess ,usually as soon as male was born he was king Visnya was older than Aegon ,but still he became king then Rhaena was older sister of Jaeherys she left him take crown .
Aegon never established a law of inheritance for the royal family so everybody assumed the andal way of doing it, also what I understand of andal tradition if a lord doesn’t have sons, but does have a daughter, it passes to her before her male cousins of the same family, unless her father chooses another for heir, so each targeryon king does his own thing which doesn’t help the next king, jaehaerys made the council to choose a heir which in turn people made people like Otto more keen of ignoring viserys wishes and thinking everybody would clearly choose aegon if they had the chance, and also rhaena got everything she wanted in not trying to become queen, and future kings do skip heirs, both female and males for being too weak or or just because their father was insane
@@cristianbejarano2000Yup exactly, there have been several instances of the crown briefly considering including women in the line of succession, and as you said not only was it never officially established (which I personally blame Jaehaerys for, the dude was all about law and order and didn't bother to write the counsel of 101's decision into law? Bro please) and other great houses in the realm pass to daughters before younger brothers or other branch members it's EVEN MORE OVERLOOKED that Queen Alysanne introduced law that said a second wife's children CANNOT inherit over the children of the first wife.
