One of those games where half the time when you press a button you aren't actually controlling your own character but pressing a button for the enemy to counter your move.
By reverse engineering the code and slowing down to frame by frame, it's been established the computer cheats in those old games like SF2. You can find videos about it. It's not just input reading : extra invincibility frames, extra range, moves altered... there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes. So if it feels like unfair BS, it's because it actually IS.
It was made to eat your quarters/¥100 coins, not to be fair. Word of mouth travelled fast from friend to friend and arcade to arcade about tactics and exploits, so many companies used these tricks to guarantee the average play time per ¥100 would stay short enough.

And on other hand, if you know the pattern to easily beat the CPU, you will also rage for playing a boring game. So the best way to play fighting games is against human players.
This actually made me have a phobia close fighting grappler characters. Thanks Zangief for teaching me to zone out grapplers and stay cautious about getting close.
@@tomio9 nah glitch so level 1 is same as level 8. Only difference is on level 1 u can take more hits...on level 8 ur dead after 5 hits. But CPU fighting intensity is same and it will fuck u up 😂😂😂
On the SNES version if you got beat by the CPU and then plugged in a second controller and chose that CPU character that beat you, you could win with player one and advance. I did this and advanced all the way to Bison where I would just get destroyed since the exploit didn't work on the final character. So much rage.
And guys FYI, about picking original 2x/turbo chars on HSF2, you could hold Start button when the cursor is on SuperX/SuperT then choose this mode. You will hear a different jingle. And for old chars in 2x/2t, you just need to hold start when cursor is on Super and choose this mode. The special jingle will be heard too.
And more, the special 2x mode contains the mechanic or glitches we all love, like ORyu 50%50 tatsu( sorry if I’m wrong) the walking super for Honda and chun, and charged orochis.
Let me tell ya ONE thing... the AI on Hyper Street Fighter 2 IS the SAME as Super Turbo, which means that if you play the non-JPN version, you have the Super Turbo AI syndrome on ANY difficulty, while the JPN is a little bit harder overall, but still not as hard as international Super Turbo/Hyper. Edit: ONE big change to Super Turbo (aside of being able to use older versions than Super Turbo Special mode) is the fact that the Akuma conditions got modified, both for good and bad (like anything related to Super Combos ONLY plays in factor with Super Turbo versions of characters aside of Akuma himself and unlike Super Turbo, you cannot lose rounds at all AND also if you fail the match and decide to retry... you're out of luck on that run, you MUST restart as Dictator will fight you like normal)... with that said. I REALLY WANT Justin to try again, reach AND defeat Akuma, as it's already hard enough to achieve no rounds lost when you reach Dictator... also, if you want to pick a Super Turbo Old (Special mode) version of a character, pick the normal Super option while holding the Start button.
Yeah there are only two good things about Hyper as a 1P game. Firstly, it's the only way to play US/World Super Turbo A.I. without Turbo speed (you can select Normal speed from the test switch, whereas in ST it only allows Free Select down to Turbo 1 at the lowest) and secondly, it gets rid of the stupid default Akuma last boss. Which basically *is* default. If you only play to 1CC a game like myself then EVERYBODY gets to Akuma. In Hyper, Bison is the proper last boss - as he should be - unless you do something out of the ordinary. Much better.
@@cardsharpHS Well, the ONLY thing you need to do in a 1CC run to avoid fighting Akuma is to lose at least a single round at any time on Sagat or any of the opponents prior to him, in Super Turbo you had to make sure to fail other conditions along with losing at least 1 round (as completing 2 conditions aside of the no rounds lost still trigger Akuma)
5:21 “I did this as a kid and thought I was the best player in the world”. Many people don’t grow out of that mentality and play like complete trash, only choose S tier characters, still lose yet somehow keep thinking they’re good.
3 hit combos chunking 80% health in one go, gotta love this BS ass AI. It's so ridiculously broken. Anytime I play it again I get insanely frustrated and my girl hears me screaming obscenities at the TV.

You guys need to understand. At this point arcade owners were dropping Street Fighter games because people were too expert at these and they were losing money. They tried to make them as hard as possible with the given set of moves but people still beat it all the way. So in a desperate attempt to make it even harder they decided to cheat including input reading and quick charges especially with characters like Guile. They went to a height of cheating with SF Alpha Akuma.
Every iteration of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo AI I played is cheesematic. Every time I put a quarter in that machine, I knew I wasn't making it past the first opponent. Thankfully the Street Fighter Alpha Series, especially 2 and 3, calmed down a bit.
It's just the best old school fighting game ever to me. I've been playing this since having a break from street fighter spam, I mean 5. It's the one stop SF II shop and if you can beat AKUMA in this...then mad respect.
I remember when I used to play this in the 90’s I could have beaten this game with one try, I attempt to play this the other day and couldn’t win a match lol, I really forgot how hard this game was
I 100% guarantee you could not finish the original American arcade on 1 quarter. The CPU is absolutely abhorrent, you're either remembering a different version or played another one.
I 100% guarantee you could not finish the original American arcade on 1 quarter. The CPU is absolutely abhorrent, you're either remembering a different version or played another one.
The game was so addictive that I’m sure most of us put many hours in and beat the game on 8 stars, these days most games have gone soft and don’t hold the same challenge. Also these games cheat a lot 😂
Essentially the AI is programmed to read your input and always counter according to a script. The difficulty adjuster just affects how often it will fail at this. This means at the highest difficulty nine times out of ten it doesn't matter what you do, the AI will walk through your attack and hit you because that's the only situation that can happen in the script.
“See Mom!” I told you the computer is cheating!!! 😂😂😂 I remember as a kid screaming and yelling at the bowling alleys, at arcades, at Circus Circus, etc., and my Mom used to tell me there’s no way the computer could cheat. 🤣
As someone who's taking its first baby steps into SFII and unknowingly starting out with HyperSFII, hearing Jwong say even he finds the CPU is hard puts my mind at rest.
Yeah. I remember going to Circus Circus and playing the original Mortal Kombat when it first came out, and the computer would do super quick jump kick anti-airs and I would be like damn, why can’t my jumps be that quick. It was like a turbo jump whenever the computer would anti-air. 🤬
1994, and 15 year old me was playing this at 7-11 when some kid a few years younger challenged me with Bison doing that bullsh!t cheap-ass flaming dive back and forth. He learned that day that Ryu can wake-up Shoryuken out of it. The look on his face was priceless…he couldn’t understand how he lost. 😂
I also didn't know how to pick old characters on this game until literally a decade after it came out, was so mad when I saw it was possble because I hated this version thinking it wasn't, or that Akuma wasn't selectable
I remember this and super street fighter 2, The Computer will grab even on impossible situations . And Jumping against the computer is a death sentence.

And so cheap it can grab you from mike away deal more damage than you do, their supers slightly fill faster , they have tones of advantages and react to every attack ! You feel like the damaged you dealt is just by coincidence! !!!
Say what? It's just World/US ST A.I. Which is very hard yes, but there's nothing different about Hyper. That was the thing I was pissed about when it came out. It just plays exactly like ST in 1P mode. Instead of utilising varied A.I.s for each character variation. And using BGs from SFII's past - blue colored carpet for C.E./Turbo Dhalsim, sunset colored sky for WW Ryu stage etc would have been super sweet. A redone frontend with player select and vs screen wouldn't have gone amiss either. Unfortunately the game was made in Capcom's era of 'cobbling shit together'.
