- So here is a tutorial that was recently requested for how to set up the fusion reactor from mekanism as well as the fuel to power it and the lasers to start it up. The request also included showing how you could set it up within a single chunk, so lets do that!

Great video, helped me set my reators based off this setup. I'm just going to weigh in a little with some notes of my own. First of all, mekanism reactor is now it's own separate mod now called mekanism generators. Secondly, if you use the resistive (electric) heaters, you can specify how much power they use, more power yields more heat, allowing for super fast heatup if you have the spare energy for it. Based on my experimentation, you can max your output of an 18 block tower with 4 advanced solar generators is 150 rf/t out of your resistive heater. Good if you're trying to max out your power production while minimizing your usage.

Starting the Mekanism fusion reactor is similar to how the NIF at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory starts the fusion reaction. [shoot high-energy lasers at the hohlraum containing fusion fuel and you've started the reaction.]

I dont know if you noticed, but you can upgrade the SN Activators now. You can effectively make 1 SN Activator equal to 256 of them :P

I thought setting this up would be a headache, but with this tutorial, it's easy (a bit complex), to set up and get running!

how do you connect stuff to the reactor. it kinda just sits there and produces unusable power
Things must have changed a lot in 6 years. I'm powering a fusion reactor at 4 injection with just 1 machine for each tritium and deuterium using two 7 high evaporation plants. I even afk through the night and it barely budges with 1 elite tank for each fuel. Who knows if you even need more than that, as it runs my sps and all my machines just fine. Maybe the modpack I'm playing just tuned it all down.
You don't need the solar panels for the towers, you can run thermodynamic cables from a resistive heater into a solar evaporation port where the solar panel base block is placed
But say you do use them, will it work? and if so just as well?
Wow takes a lot of power to even make more power
My lasers dont seem to physically appear, but they still burn and destroy blocks. Is there anyway to fix this graphical glitch

hey um i know its old video but i have a problem : i dont see the lasers but they are there
In my experimental setup, I was able to produce >20RF/t with just some ultimate gas tanks and an injection rate of 40. I'm wondering if maybe the amount of energy your lasers give it initially makes a difference?
Yeah, it does as it affects the starting heat which gives an initial burst of energy, but that will quickly drop down to whatever it can sustain on what your feeding it. If you mean for sustained power after the first couple mins or so, initial energy shouldnt have anything to do with that as it really just comes down to your injection rate really

I don't have enderio so I use mekanism's mechanical pipe to put the brine in the other tower but no brine is going over
Use Mekanism Basic / Advanced or Ultimate pipes :) works just as well.

I dont have enough power for the lasers

Hehe, well if you are living at some decent elevation, try out the windmills :) Way op and 24 hr power generation
I have 10 windmills and 2 advanced solar right now. about 850/t. I knew there was some plus to starting in Extreme Hills
Oh yeah, windmills are monster early power gen, and can get them pretty easily in the first few hours if you gun for them. Then pretty well set for a while :)
I watched the video but i don't really know english, so here is my question. What is going to happen when either deutirium or tritium won't come to reactor at night? You propably explained it so sorry.
No worries :) Well ideally you want a buffer tank to store a lot of it during the day if you dont have a setup that can run all the time, such as a void world from rf tools with always daytime. But if you dont have either of those and your reactor runs out of fuel, it will just shut down and you will have to restart it with lasers and another haulraum whenever you want to turn it back on.

Np at all, anytime :) And nope, the mek reactor is like the big reactor in that it will never explode on you, will just power down :)
Is this a different version of mekanism or something? with 3 solar plants and 15 SNs in an all day dim from rftools, I can produce 51million Rf/t and it is just about sustainable.
I am able to sustain a 98 fuel consumption reactor (maxed out) with only 1 SN Activator thanks to the update because it adds the ability to upgrade the speed of the SN Activators. So with 8 speed upgrades, you can effectively make 1 SN Activator equal to 256 of them.
The solar generators are no longer a requirement. Thats when the towers were called "Solar Evaporation Plants"
so how do you power them if so, by another energy source for example wind turbines connected to it with universal cabling?
Use resistant heaters in stead of solar gens. They are connected to valves using thermodynamic conductors

Can i do only 2 towers?
Yes and in fact, those two towers can share a wall allowing you to make an even more compact setup. My *entire* tritium production block fits into a 5 wide x 8 long x 3 high block space!
i accidentally ran a reactor on only d-t fuel, by the time i figured out where the fuel was coming from (after cutting fuel lines) it nearly exploded

In my Version of mecanism I cant put speed upgrades in the solar neutron activator and the solar evaporation plant. So Im not sure if this setup will produce enough fuel without upgrades. What do you think? Is this setup enough or should I build more solar neutron activators?

You dont need to convert the tritium and deuterium into D-T Fuel beforehand in the chemical infuser. That wastes power. What you should do is pump the deuterium and tritium into the reactor directly. It will combine them automatically.
its not converting beforehand. A chemical infuser is making some beforehand, but thats just for use in the hohlraum, not for use in the reactor
