For Mekanism being rather late game stuff, you can attain your first jetpack incredibly fast, you just need to mine some basic ores and power an infuser, an enrichment chamber and the electrolytic separator. Setting up the separator with the water supply is the hardest part, you can still get this done before even having to mine diamonds or enter the nether.
Thank you for the good tips. I built a gigantic (and by gigantic I mean multiple hundred blocks wide) nuclear fusion facility to power my mod project, but I constantly had problems with everything working only on round about half its efficiency, thanks to your video I found out this was because I used D-T fuel for the reactor. Also I didn‘t know that the injection rate has to be an even number; when I tried to change it to 3 to test it, nothing happened, so I thought it was broken and didn‘t try again. But now I know better. (Also, if someone wondered, “Hohlraum“ is a german word, which means “empty space“)
Wow. These things have been nerfed hard since last I played. Was messing around in a creative world (Plexiglass Mountain, 1.18.2). Basically, a bigger Turbine is always better. I tried messing with smaller turbines for space efficiency, but when it comes to burning fuel, you get way more bang for the buck with just making enormous turbines. Even then, the most I could squeeze from a 15x15x18 (keeping the boundaries within a chunk) was 43.14MFE/t, burning Deuterium/Tritium at full injection, which is a hell of a far cry from the some hundreds of millions they used to generate. Trying to build four 7x7x18 turbines (again, chunk boundaries), I could only run two effectively at an injection rate of 86. Each was only providing 13.53MFE/t. The hope was to produce enough steam to get 4 turbines in the same relative footprint for a bit more power, but that would necessitate doubling up on both fuel production and reactors to produce enough steam. It should be noted that you can effectively go closed loop after the initial setup. Once the reactor and the burn rate are set, from what I'm seeing in my test world, you no longer need an external source of water for steam. You will, however, need to hook a pipe up to several vents for water retrieval. A lot of video's seem to just place one mechanical pipe on a vent and return it to the fusion reactor, but that doesn't return all the water from the turbine. None of this is a problem as such, it just makes producing Antimatter a little more "deliberate".
I dont know which version this is, but on Mekanism minecraft 1.19.2 you can just use 2-4 Resistive Heater on max power to heat the fusion reactor. it costs much less ressource to just build them instead of a big laser matrix and heating it up just takes about 1-2 minutes xD
DT fuel is needed for the fusion reactor however it is more efficient to have it mix together within the reactor like in the video. DT fuel is only used for the fusion reactor. It's just up to you to make it before it enters the machine or have it be made internally
Is it worth it to make a cooled reactor instead of a normal one ? Normally it creates more on its own and if water cooled you need turbine. So does it gives more power while using turbines in addition to reactor
I've seen 200MFE, 400MFE and 800MFE. I haven't tested all the minimum myself but it's easier to say do the most possible since modpack authors can change what is required
Old video. Mixing skills were worse back then. However, looking back it's only 1 honk transition that's bad. Not the popping ones. This is the first someone has complained about the pops. Sorry for your ears xD
Because when you water cool a fusion reactor, you can produce enough steam from that one reactor to power up to 8 maximum (17×17×17) steam turbines. With that setup the water cooled fusion reactor and the steam turbines create about 5 times more power than an air cooled fusion reactor.
@@Mondays3 my burn rate was maximum. I ended up getting 8 MFE out of them by directly pumping in the combined DT fuel, but still not enough to make them worth running *instead* of the fission reactor (I get about 60-70 MFE out of the max size fission reactor with 4 turbines and 4 boilers) but its decent supplemental power.
I dont get it, you gain almost 20Mfe per tick from passive energy then why you want steam? Is it really making more than that overall? You only get around 10MFe per tick with water cooling and steam turbine combined but there was still steam left so thats why I'm asking.
Just use the heat from the air cooled fusion reactor to power a boiler to give steam to a turbine it is just better with more power water cooled is not that good
I know I’m a little bit late, but the steam turbine can only use 1.7 million mb/t of steam and the reactor produces 14.7 million mb/t so you can put more than 8 of those turbines, which resolutes to around 45 MFe/t.
@@Mondays3 I dug a bit and it seems the Turbines can produce way more power than the standalone reactor, however, who knows if anyone would even need that much power generation lol.

I've seen this reactor in an underground facility blowing up on a UA-cam video, and it created a massive hole reaching the surface

Not probably. He is lol
You only need 400MFe into your laser amplificator in order to power your fusion reactor. Except for this little error it's a really helpful video👍

This setup looks good! A bit of overkill perhaps but should work for the entire lifetime. Will use it.

Overkill is the only way in minecraft isn't it?
It's overkill until you need to feed the CFS Xd

But you showed me you cant

But the laser is way coolee though.
This is 1.16.5 and you can’t do that on that version
Lasers are cool
Thank for tutorial man 👍
But you should use dynamic tank instead of chemical tank
Absolutely! They are just placeholder buffer storage for tutorial purposes. For large buffers, definitely dynamic storage tanks
they really need to make what most other mods have, an infinity cable, moving only 3.6 mfe when your reactor is pushing 10mfe is wild
add 2 more ports then.
Hey man nice video! So the Reactor doesnt really need DT-fuel except at the start? what else can you do with DT-fuel? or need DT-fuel?

So happy to help
thank you for making this video, but what is the size of your steam generator?
I assume you mean the steam turbine? In this video I am now too sure. Maybe 10x10 or something but the maximum size they can go is 17x17x17
You only have to use 800 MFE to jumpstart the reactor.
I've seen 200MFE, 400MFE and 800MFE. I haven't tested all the minimum myself but it's easier to say do the most possible since modpack authors can change what is required
As far as I know the modpack which I used to test that does not change the amount of energy needed to start the reactor
how did you make the texture of the mekanism stay connected like this in 3:24
I’m using optifine and that has connected textures
So this can generate 10-20x more power than the draconic reactor and is much more sefer
It's still an omega big setup
@@Mondays3 but the draconic reactor can destroy your entire country and this fusion reactor can't hurt a fly

Mk stands for million kelvin
Whats the point of the turbine? if you make more power with the reactor.
You don't need it, it's just an option. You can use it for extra water for fission reactor for polonium?

somehow it won't pump water into my reactor
My fusion reactor doesn't make more than 500 KFe/t when water cooled, and 800 KFe/t when air cooled. any idea why that is?
Up your burn rate

Totally agree. I think you would have to rig something very bespoke for that
