Hey man, did you figure out how to make the steering wheel buttons function properly with this unit?
Yes, sure did. I needed two steps. 1 connect to wifi to download an update. 2 select the Canbus type. After that, the buttons automatically work which is much better than my previous Spotify experience when using AUX
@@ElliottBrooks where in the tablet do you go to the update? I have the 2 wire canbus connector plugged in but they my steering wheel lights aren’t even on at this point.
@@Killerwaffle992 lights? What lights? My steering wheel doesn’t have lights haha. The Canbus settings are within the “factory” setting. You need the 8888 code to access an extra menu
@@ElliottBrooks my buttons on the wheel weren’t lighting orange for a while for whatever reason. They are fine now lol
Is everyone’s canbus code the same? 8888 doesn’t work on mine
@@Killerwaffle992 ahh right. Yes I believe the code is the same if the model looks the same. They all come from the same factories generally. Hope this advice helps!
Can this still work as my car is a convertible? Because where would I put the convertible buttons?
Hi - yes, works perfectly with convertible. I mentioned heated seat buttons in the video, the convertible buttons go in the same location. They’d be on the bottom underside
10/10 Following this was an easy mod!
Luckily i didnt need to cut the plastic off either, my only issue is my steering wheel controls not working but too my delight you already replied to someone about it in the comments an looking into it now
You’re a Top man
Glad I could help! Yeah I hadn’t figured out the steering when I filmed the video. But did shortly after so helped in the comment :) make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already!
Mate I never comment on vids but this video single handedly stopped me from losing my mind. You deserve some sort of honour from the ozzy government for services to the world! Great work bud. Subscribed.
Thanks for the kind words. These kind of comments keep me motivated. Hopefully I can get some new content out soon!
@@ElliottBrooks the shaving of the AC unit was inspired dude. Honestly I was ready to give up on it until I found your vid. Genius. Arise Lord Elliott!
Hi, I own an E82 118D and I'm planning on this being the first ever modification I've ever done. I'm generally not great and doing this like this myself, but would you say this process is challenging at all? Or was it all explained easily?
Furthermore, does the satnav on the unit require my phone to be connected? Since on long drives my phone will often die and I don't want to be stranded hahha. Also, does the Apple Carplay mean bluetooth won't work with my Android phone? Was anything else needed to do this that wasn't included on the kit you purchased? (Other then screws, and the dremel).
Hi mate, hope the video was helpful. Make sure you check out the link in the description for the purchase link, as that has extra details on which cars it suits and also what’s required. From my understanding you should be fine, and everything is included. Regarding difficulty, this is easier than a bunch of other mods that are on my channel - but still takes some fiddling around. I covered all the steps didn’t skip anything. The wiring can be confusing but does make sense. The satnav hasn’t worked perfectly for me - but I haven’t tried to get it to work as I always use my phone. If you have an android, CarPlay isn’t wireless. Needs to be plugged in is my understanding. That’s easy enough. Good luck!
Will this work for a 2008 bmw 128i series 1 ?
Hi, yes it should work for that model of 1 series. If you click the link in the description, there is more details :)
@@ElliottBrooks thank you!
Hi did you ever do this on your bmw 128i? I just got mine and want to do it
Do you need a stereo that already has the bluetooth option? I have the business cd stereo that doesnt support bluetooth rn would it still work with this unit?
That’s a good question. I assume it’s OK and that this system provides it’s own Bluetooth since the Bluetooth is under a new name. Perhaps check with the seller to confirm before purchasing
@@ElliottBrooks great suggestion! Thank you for the quick reply and informative video :) Keep it up, great work 👍
@@Smaulelele happy to help! Make sure to subscribe if you haven’t already :)
Great video! Do you know if this would fit in a 2013 BMW 128i? On Aliexpress it says it's just for 04 - 12 models but it looks just like the 2013.
Glad you found it helpful! I can only speak from my experience. If you follow the link I posted in the description then contact the seller - I’ve found them to be very helpful in clarifying specific details. Best to check before buying - might be a back end technical update
Do you think it will work for Bmw series 1 2008 116i hatchback ??
Yes. It fits E88 cars also
Love the videos. Keep it up!! I just brought a 135i m sport today for 10k it definitely needs work but it's in great condition for what i paid
Nice one! Sounds like a good buy
Bonjour, sur le lien Aliexpress que vous avez mis en description. Il y en a plusieurs lequel c’est le vôtre.
The model is “Q10” - it is the most expensive, but highest performance version. I recommend this.
QT10 8G 128G AT / MT.
The numbers 8G and 128G represent the memory/performance. The AT/MT depends on your car (automatic/manual)
My cars a convertible would where would the roof controls go
Are the roof controls in the same place as heated seats etc? If so, they go on the underside - if you click the purchase link in the description, there is a diagram to show you what I mean - I also show the underside and mention heated seats buttons in the video
My 2007 1 series has the start stop button and seat heating button at the bottom.
Do I then have to install the facelift air conditioning control panel and have the start stop deleted?
greetings
I apply a blocker plate because I don’t have those buttons. But yours will be on the lower face - accessible but you won’t see them. In the video you can see the gap, I just put a blank bit of plastic there instead. It’ll work fine for you
My only problem is with position of the car Radio. It's too low for navigate. Always got to look down
Yes, agreed. But both positions have negatives. Being a touch screen, it’s much easier to use from this position. As well as the fact I am quite tall so my rear view mirror already blocks a lot of windscreen visibility. This position gives you a much clearer front view. Admittedly you need to be a good driver as you’re right, you need to take your eyes off occasionally
I think this is better. Have the convertible and visibility is already horrible. Plus it's rhd, so to put the unit in the storage bin reduced visibility and makes it impossible to use and navigate during driving. This position is far better imo
After seeing this video I ordered this same head unit . Fitted it today work really well other than the fact there is absolutely no sound at all.
Hmm - you must have a different setup than me. If you read through some of the comments below - they fixed this issue by purchasing the extra adaptor or checking that they had their wires connected properly
Does it work with the oem mulf2 and mic and aux/usb?
To be honest, I haven't tested them. The new system does provide a new mic and USB inputs, so maybe they're being replaced - I can't remember if it provides a new aux. I am sure it would either utilise existing aux - or you could feed aux to the same ports currently in the car - I don't use either aux or usb so yeah sorry, can't comment much
@@ElliottBrooks thank you. so i used the second gen apple airport express and turned that into a wifi streaming device that connects to the aux. the quality is great. works well with navigation and music. but seeing the phone on the dash is irritating me more now as the phones are just so big. with the newer cars having carplay, i need to bite the bullet. my mate put it in his 86 and it is a world of a difference. the mulf2 was really the only thing, for phone calls. but if i have to swap the mics out, thats not a problem. how many usb's are provided? only other thing was if i have to run the phone constantly to make carplay work via the usb, but that is minor if everything works well. these 1ers are so tight with storage. maybe i can route a charge cable into the arm rest or some compartment. thanks for your help.
@golfer23rm system comes with two usb cables. Phone calls seem to work well through the system so far. Check the link in the video description for extra details, there is quite a bit of info on the purchase page
@@golfer23rm apple carplay connects wirelessly with this system - yes, you need your phone to use it. It also has bluetooth phone capability. I haven't had charging issues - but depends on how long your trips are. Two USB are provided.
I am looking to buy this but i got some questions
1. Does the receiving for fm radio works as good as the original bmw radio?
2. Is there a line out for an amplifier ?
3. What about the volume for the radio itself? Is it louder/same/less loud then the original radio?
Thanks if someone knows the answer :)
Hi - I have found the radio reception to work perfectly fine - although I mostly use spotify inside of apple carplay. I believe there is all the cables for an amplifier and you can buy a fibre optic cable connector if needed. Volume is very good! If you're thinking of purchasing - there is a link in the description :)
Cool thanks for the info
@ElliottBrooks After 10 months, are you still happy with the startup speed and loading of apps or using splitscreen? Anything else you noticed worth mentioning?
I notice it is still on android 10, so hopefully in a couple of years apps will still get an update.
(I am looking to replace my 10.25 inch android screen that i installed in the summer of 2021, after 2 years it has become so slow that i almost cannot use spliscreen anymore, loading waze takes a minute before i can start searching for directions... Resetting to factory settings made it worse lol. Kinda sad because i bought an expensive version from a dutch company that promised me a way better experience then the ali express version but updating apps made it really slow to react.
@@dj__grizzlyahh I’m sorry to hear. Do you know the specs of what you bought? I am a bit of a techy guy, so I could check the specs and knew that the hardware performance would be good. The start up and load time is super quick. I almost only use CarPlay though and load the apps within that. So in terms of wait times, it’s 30 seconds or so for the system to start up and connect wirelessly to my phone and start CarPlay. Every now and then (maybe one a couple of months), if I’ve been jumping in and out of the car, connecting and disconnecting quickly it might get stuck - so I just reset the head unit and it starts up in 30 seconds again. I am impressed with it for the price.
@@ElliottBrooks i had to check, it is a motivesupplies (netherlands) android 10 unit with a 4core qualcomm Snapdragon s425, 2 gig ram/32 gig work memory. There are options for faster units but the price went up to much (this one was already 575€ back in the summer of 2021, it however is the version with both carplay and android auto wireless.)
The 2 gig memory is what is making the unit so slow. i mostly use the built in music player with a 64gig memory card with dj sets in combination with Waze
Did you retain the door chimes and warning sounds after installing the head unit? I seem to have lost my door chimes.
Hi, yes this was something that I did not notice until some time afterwards. There may be a setting to retain them, I haven’t asked the supplier yet. I don’t find it a negative, as I always found those sounds annoying. However, it would be better to be able to toggle - so I’m sure there is an option somewhere
Hey Sato and Elliott am having the same problem did you manage to fix it?I don’t have the door chimes nor the warning sounds
@@Mikiryeenot yet - but try contacting the aliexpress seller - they’ve been responsive to any questions I’ve had. I don’t mind if I don’t have them
Hi! I have the same model (basically) and the buttons below the aircon unit, are those gonna be eliminated? The only thing I didn’t understand :)
Hey - no, those buttons are included, you just can't see them. They're on the underside of the unit - you would put your hand under to press them. You wouldn't see them, but as long as you know what position each button is in - then no drama. The bottom side is curved. In my video, I place a blank "blocker" because I have no extra buttons
@@ElliottBrooks cool! I only have the start/stop there so I can’t really get confused, does carplay work well? Does it connects quickly? I was trying to find a more powerful version but this seems to be the only option! Thank you for your answer btw!
Yes, CarPlay works well. I have no complaints once it’s all setup. Automatically connects wirelessly after the first connect. Very smooth. System is powerful if you get the QT10 model in my link in the description. Best value for money. A lot of other systems don’t have as strong processing power or memory so they are slow - or they cost thousands of dollars for similar spec. I rate this system
Sorry what was that heated seat blocker? Mine has heated seats im a bit confused what you mean on that one. Also does this negatively affect the sound in any way?
So basically - because mine doesn't have heated seats, then I don't have those buttons. They give you a 'blocker' to block out the gap for those buttons.
If you do have heated seats, or convertible or anything extra in those buttons, you place those buttons there instead of the blocker.
I have not noticed any negative impact to the sound. When you first use the sound, it DOES sound different, but you need to change the settings in the equaliser.
@@ElliottBrooks okay that’s great thanks for the reply!
Did your reverse sensors still work after this? (PDC) on my aftermarket they dont work anymore
Mine worked at first with a different sound, but have since stopped working. I’ve asked the supplier and he said one of the wires must’ve come loose. Perhaps take it off and check yours haven’t. I haven’t tried yet
@ElliottBrooks apperently you need a special cambus adapter. Like £75 for it. Mines got a pioneer single din one in currently. I'll give this carplay one a go thank you.
@@XVModsthis has a Canbus adaptor included. Make sure to use the link in the video description for best quality version
Can i use the buttons on my wheel to turn up and down the vol?
Yes you can. That’s the main reason I wanted this over using the AUX cable (as well as the screen functionality obviously). Using the Canbus integration the steering wheel controls work. We’ve explained the process in the pinned comment
I installed mines everything is functioning correctly only thing is i have zero audio
Sounds like either you haven’t plugged some wires in or your setup is different. Did you get the Q10 model? I would read the aliexpress page or contact them for support as they will be able to diagnose the issue
I have the same problem!
if you want to reinstall stock radio is there an issue with the auto temp unit now that its plastic was trimmed? would it still fit back into place?
Hi. Good question. I haven’t tried to reverse install the radio unit. I think it would work fine but can’t confirm
Does it have wireless android auto also?
I believe android auto is only wired support. Are you looking to get one for your car?
From where you got the headlights?
I built them. If you check my channel there is a video covering the process
hey bro where do you find carplay? cant find it on my screen
Did you buy this version of the screen from my link? if so, the app is called TLINK5 and has a picture of the car and a phone. It comes pre-installed. You need to connect your phone via bluetooth for it to work
Can you run apps like Torque and make it display on the screen?
Yes - I have downloaded MHD and can connect to my wireless dongle - I will do hopefully do a video on that soon
Any idea on how to change boot logo just got this and struggling to find setting on how to do it?
Cheers jamie
I haven’t solved this yet. From what I can tell, there are paid options in their “theme store” which may solve this - but I think there is also the option to load the file on via USB. Haven’t looked into it much yet
@@ElliottBrooks sound mate cheers
I see that you have a factory amplifier in your car, how did you solve the optic fiber box?
Hey good question. In my research it appears that with my specific setup that it is covered via the other wires. Something to do with the amount of speakers. I didn’t fully understand and this was the one wire that worried me. But it seems to work fine after install
He doesn't have the L7/Harman Kardon hifi system so doesn't need an optic fiber box. I just realised this myself when I tried to follow this video, because I have it. I've got the fiber box ordered so hopefully my sound works after that
@@BigDavoNorriwong did you get your system to work? I have the HIFI 677 system with fiber optic and subwoofers etc. And I get no sound with everything connected.
can you link where you bought the Double Din Fascia and price?
here you go: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DBB3zsX
thanks but screw that lol, they charging too much for a cheap plastic crap.; i just got one from ebay for £23@@ElliottBrooks
Struggling to remove the AC is there a trick to it
Yeah there’s some screws holding it in pretty sure. If you watch the video, pretty sure you see me remove some screws
Does this work for the 116i?
If you check the link in the description it has details on which cars suit. It’s less about the model and more what your previous radio is
Have u found any good sound system settings currently struggling to get the right tone😆
Yes, good question. I went into bass boost and put that to the maximum db (I.e slide the sliders to the top) then also select “
installed this carplay same unit but i connect to carplay i get no sound is there a fix to this?
radio works just no sound from carplay
No sounds from CarPlay means one of the wires isn’t connected properly. Double check the wiring loom. Radio will work regardless because the source is different
Do they have a fitting for subwoofers?
Yes there is many extra speakers and sub wires that I did not use
Howzit man. How so you reset your fuel consumption and adjust the clock? 🤣
Haven’t noticed any issues with fuel consumption. But also, don’t check that often hah. Re the clock - working on it. Supposedly in the settings there are options. Works off gps or network. So maybe need to add its own SIM card or connect via wifi at home. TBC
When connecting to CarPlay does it automatically play music because I’m having troubles with mine
What do you mean by automatically play music? Once you open carplay, you need to then have a music app - i.e. spotify - to play the music
@@ElliottBrooks like when it finally connects and puts you in the CarPlay mode does it play the music automatically like straight away without you pressing on play or anything?
I guess that would depend if you’re already playing music on your phone at the time or not. Usually when I get in my car, I’m not playing music on my phone. It auto connects, then I press play and drive off
@@LuisJaimes-lb5dj Possibly - as I said, if you have music playing before you connect it might do that.
If thats a normal feature of carplay, then yes
Hey guys - I love my unit. One question - I wanna get a games console to play on it. Has anyone managed to get a video into into it? I’ve bought the HDMI to USB but not sure which app to use to make the console work on the unit
I assume this is for passengers or when you’re not driving. But I would look into android specific apps. I don’t know if you can do a direct HMDI input to turn it into a screen rather than an android unit
Nice video mate. Easy video ranking - 'Promosm' !!!
Thanks
Hi Elliott, I recently got a similar radio unit thanks to this vid but I came across an issue. Every time I connect via bluetooth or Apple CarPlay the sound cuts out. You mind sharing how you wired your unit? When I tune into the radio I can hear the music just fine, but as soon as my phone connects the speakers go quiet. Thanks
Hey mate - you mention “similar”. Did you buy the exact same one or a different brand?
I have the problem I bought the QT7 after watching elliot video but the music cuts of
@@stevenarcila4791 which music? Spotify or radio? I recommended getting the QT10 so I can’t comment on the QT7. I haven’t had any issues with QT10 but I mostly listen to Spotify and not car radio
i’m having the same issue here! did you manage to figure it out?
hey i followed pretty much everything but i can’t get any audio output, apple car play works and gps but when it comes to music nothing comes out
Check your wiring. You might not have connected two of the wire stacks together. That one is easy to miss. Otherwise it might depend which system you have and should contact the seller to check compatibility
Just ran across this, and looking forward to seeing it. The professional radio needs an upgrade!. I know there were some hidden factory programming options in the head unit in NA region, do you lose access to those or is there another way to get at those features?
Which features are you referencing?
Hi from NZ. The link you have for this unit is for Android, do you know which one is for Apple ? Thanks
Hey mate, no difference between Apple and Android units. The one I have linked is for both. I have an Apple iPhone, but it also works on android
Its 150 in Switzerland :P Where do you stuck the USB key??
They provide two usb cable outlets. You can route these wherever you want. If you wanted to get fancy you could connect it to the OEM outlet or make your own. It has wireless connectivity for iPhone so I haven’t needed to use it
Having huge problems with the fascia popping out. Just doesn’t want to stay in the recess. Anyone had the same issue?
Did you attach the small plastic connector pieces and slide it downwards?
They are only £70
Depends which variation you get. If you follow the link in the description you can see the difference models and prices. In my video I’m referencing the top model (most expensive plus best performance) I’m also speaking in AUD which would be less than pounds.
Hey man! How’s the experience after all this time? Do you still like it?
Yah still highly rated. Not perfect but great for the price point and modernises the car massively
Hi man can you change volume with your steering wheel button?
Yes, you need to connect your steering wheel via software - if you read the pinned comment, it explains how
Has anyone done this with the e88 wondering what happens with the roof opening buttons
Hi mate, the roof opening buttons are fine - they get added to the below section. I cover it in the video but call them heated seat buttons. Anything that would be a button in the extra row goes there
Did you ever find the bmw logo start up?
nah stopped trying to find it - sorry! I think there is paid options, but even then it's probably difficult and requires some backend "hacking"
So to to install this here instead of the dash I have to forego my heated seats?
No, not at all - if you watch the install, I discuss that the heated seats or convertible buttons are on the bottom face on the unit. I add in a blank slot instead of these buttons as I dont have them
Installed one today with manual climate control, had to fiddle more than expected in order to make the buttons work for both heated seats and climate controls, keep that in mind. Of course maybe there was a defect with my shell... Anyway, everything is working now 🥳
@@GvyDskaChannelthanks for the reply. Did you purchase from the link in my video description or just a similar product? The one I’ve used looked very high quality and I don’t think should have any issues with fitment. Other people have installed without error - so if so, yes maybe unfortunate issue with your piece
hello is your center size 270mm because they will not fit any bmw 8X with 265mm, is this true
I’m not sure to be honest. I linked the exact product that I purchased in the description - I don’t think there are various E8X centre console designs. I believe they are standard, but check with the seller
Is it possible to install this aquipment in a BMW 116i 2005? Nice video anyhow.
Thanks for the feedback. I don’t know 116i specifically but if they’re part of the E8X model - then yes - it should be fine. Click the link in my description and check the details there
Hi Elliot,
Thanks for your video. It works great. I have still one issue. I only have sound in the front of the car, the speakers in the back doesn’t work. All the wires are connected.
(Sorry for my terreble englisch)
Your English is fine. Perhaps your car needs the optic fibre connection. My suggestion would be to contact the seller on aliexpress. They are quite responsive
Bonjour vous n’avez pas brancher la fibre optique ?
hello - no, I did not connect the fibre optic cable. I read online that certain models speakers don't need to connect it - but there is an extra fibre optic connector piece you can use if you need to. At first I was worried, but my sound works great - so no problem! :)
Hi Mate. Just a question could you add, connect a Reverse Camera with this?
Yes, this particular screen comes with reverse camera functionality. When I bought mine, they included a free camera. Use the link in the video description

Hello my friend, in my e88 cabrio i have two buttons to open and close my vehicle top. what about these two buttons, when i replace my system? do you know, how can i solve this?
Yes, they fit fine. They are on the underside. I put a blocker in the video as I don’t have those buttons, but you can put your buttons. No problem!
@@ElliottBrooks i am not sure. Because it looks like there is no space anymore. Please check 10:26

@@ElliottBrooks Wow thats great. Thank you. And you are still happy with the system?
@veyselyaprak yes, very. Big improvement having CarPlay. If you’re thinking of purchasing, I recommend the seller in the link in my description :)
does this work if you have the parking sensor button?
Yes, there is a cutout section for heated seats and Parking sensor buttons. Are you going to give it a go and install? What are you driving?
hey mate, thanks for the video! Now that it's been some time, how has this unit faired? Any issues? At such a low price I'm a bit concerned it won't last long. Cheers!
Hi mate, good question. The unit has faired well! It works exactly the same as the day I bought it. As I’ve said in a couple other comments, inside Apple CarPlay the system is perfect. Outside of it, it has some imperfections but for the price and the fact I am always using Apple CarPlay - I still highly recommend it. Make sure you get the QT10 version for the best processing power
Sorry might be a silly question, can you send the link or spec of the unit you bought. Would like to buy the same one. Cheers.
Hey - yes, the link in the description is the exact seller. I got the QT10 8G 128G.
Does upgrading the stereo need any special programming or is it just plug and play
This system is plug and play. Everything in the video is all you need to do + some settings within the new unit
You have insta bro?
Yeah man - it’s linked via my channel homepage
I bought it and after that my battery gets drained after every night
Hmm. I haven’t had any issues like this. Is your battery old?
Is that normal that the link show a 95€ autoradio ? Is it that cheap ?
The link will show a range of headunits. I suggest getting the higher spec version which costs more than the base version :) if you read my other comments, I’ve already specified somewhere which version I recommend
I just did this install thanks to you! I'm still struggling to get the CANBUS to work.
Another issue I've had is I get static through the stereo. Almost as if it's maxed out on volume and you get that buzzing. It's there even with nothing playing.
I feel this has to do with the car audio volume levels vs the android units. Currently, at 10 on the andoid out of the 100, it's already quite loud.
Any ideas to either of those?
Yes, Canbus - you need to go into factory settings. The password for me was 88888. If you bought from aliexpress - give them a message or check for a manual for your units specifics. Once in there make sure you are connected to wifi and updated to the latest version. My seller told me to select “Eudi” as the type of Canbus and “E90” as the variant. Once you select that it will do a minor update and all of your steering wheel buttons etc should now work.
Regarding buzzing - there is some sound quality/fine tuning settings available - have you had a look in there? Have you double checked your wiring to make sure everything is installed correctly? Which model car do you have? I agree Re: loudness. I don’t listen to music higher than 12/13 generally - but that’s ok.
@@ElliottBrooks Yeah I was able to get into the settings but wasn't able to find the exact model or the right type of canbus for it to work (HiWorld, Raise, ect). I'll give Eudi a try though. I had guessed it might have been the E90 so thank you for confirming.
Yeah I've made sure all audio is plugged properly and it does work! I just don't like the popping on and off sound when audio comes on or is about to come on and off. You do have to listen for it but now that I've heard it, I can't unhear it haha.
Mine is a E88 135i 08, the convertible. I'm still playing around with mine. I have the TS10 with the 6gb of RAM.
Another thing that kinda bothers me is they didn't give the device an Play Store Certification. As you say, it has wonkiness outside of Carplay and some of the wonkiness is certain apps aren't downloadable without sideloading
@@annihil8ted993 I haven’t noticed the popping of sound. What scenario is that happening? I generally only listen to Spotify through apple carplay now. Or radio on the odd occasion. Yeah the key with the Canbus is updating the system to download the latest content. I tried every single Canbus setting and thought it was broken lol. Agreed that the system is a bit wonky - the main issue is that it needs wifi for a lot of apps. I’ve found the workaround to be plugging in my phone and allowing the system to use my phones wifi via Bluetooth. I think I found a setting that was “share connection via Bluetooth”. Anyway - best of luck! My advice is to pester the seller where you bought it from if you aren’t getting the specific advice. Otherwise check the page they sometimes have a manual link in there
@@ElliottBrooks Eudi worked, thank you! It's still not perfect as for things like speed, I'm not able to use MCU and have to resort to GPS. Still dialing it in so hopefully it'll resolve itself.
Usually I hear the pop of static when music is about to come on but hasn't yet. The static goes away with a small small pop if audio hasn't played for a while which I think is the unit cutting off the audio feed.
Another thing too is I've realized I can hear the fan running when it's quiet or idle but I can live with that because i don't want the unit to overheat or anything
Just installed mine and for some reason I get no sound from the door speakers but I hear sound coming from the floor speakers.. also what do I have to do to get apple CarPlay on the qt10 I don’t see the option
The song on the screen isn’t the same that is playing, u got me😂😂😂😂😂, what’s the name of that tune that you’re playing 🎉??? Helpful video I really wanna upgrade mine too
Hahaha I’m glad someone noticed! The song is “Tacet Mortem” by Ruzer
I just installed this in my car and the radio is really loud but when I go to Apple CarPlay it is pretty quiet. How can I fix this?
I haven’t experienced that myself, but to be honest I dont use the radio very much - only apple carplay. Could it be to do with your phone settings? Have you checked the equilizer?
@@ElliottBrooksYes I got it all figured out I just reset it and it worked!
@@ChaseT-p5l perfect! Glad it worked out
Any reason you opted to install this than the available head/ dash units you can install that are available for the 135i E82 model?
Do you mean why did I install the screen in place of the radio rather than install of the screens that are placed higher up on the dash? Those higher placement screens completely block your vision. When I used to have my phone holder in the centre position that was super annoying and kind of dangerous. The screens are even worse! Plus, this is completely reversible - unlike those screens that generally require cutting.
So this will work with heated seats and my convertible top buttons? Do they just go on the bottom where you put that little black piece?
Yes, exactly. That’s my understanding. It’s the same shape as the cut out and we’re not changing any functionality of that section just moving things down
Mine has pdc but only The Sound. Does Thais create a Display ?
That's the same as mine currently - I only have PDC - so it creates a visual of the proximity that matches the sound. But it's definitely set up for a reverse camera
Better sound than the original?
I can’t remember the quality of the sound prior to installation - but the new sound is solid once you tune it. I really enjoy my sound system now that I can use the steering wheel controls to control Spotify for example. Volume 12 and it’s pumping and sounds very clear. I have stock system - not sure how it works with upgraded systems though
I want to buy one after see your vid, but my Car has heatet Seats where dose it go ???
There is a cutout on the bottom side. When I am putting the pieces together I show a blank piece being put in there. If you have heated seats your buttons would go there instead
the link provided lots of options which exact one did you use?
I got the QT10 I believe it’s called. Or the Q10 maybe. There is variations. Automatic and manual depending on your car. Give the page a read, it’s fairly self explanatory
How did you activate the Apple carplay?
Hey - did you buy this and install it? You need to connect your phone via Bluetooth and then you’ll open an app that opens carplay
Whats the responsiveness of the headunit? Is it laggy or freezing at all?
My it depends which version you get. I got the QT10 which was the top version. Responsiveness is great. If you got a cheaper version it might be risky
can this be done on a 2005 bmw 116i aux ?
Is that an E82/E87? If so, then yes I believe so, but all details should be included in the purchase link accessible via the video description
Hey man, looking at buying one, What are your thoughts now you’ve had it a while?
I give it a 7/10. Apple CarPlay is a big bonus. Downsides - the wireless connection can be a bit funny if you try switch phones or plug in before it’s connected wirelessly - requiring a restart. It changes the reverse sensor noise and sometimes is a bit funny too (could be because I haven’t installed the rear camera yet). Beyond that, it’s great. Having apple car play is a huge bonus and the screen modernised the car massively. Sound quality is good once you tune it. Prior to install, I was unable to change songs on Spotify when I was plugged in via aux / with CarPlay that’s now no problem and a big quality of life bonus. Hope that helps - let me know if there’s any specific areas you want to know about
Good video! Can you let us know if the volume controls, and phone answer button on the steering wheel, still function?
I hadn’t figured it out yet when I filmed this and wanted to make sure I didn’t hold up this video.
I’ve now since realised you need to go into settings and select “factory” - when you enter a code they provide - you can then select your car model to program the Canbus integration. Volume, next, etc all work with CarPlay now. I haven’t tried my phone buttons but I am confident they do work!
Can u tell me the Code?
The factory code they gave me was 8888
@@ElliottBrooks which canbox did u take in the settings and which model?
@@ElliottBrooks i got the same model like u
How Old is your bmw?
It’s a 2008. If you watch my old videos I go into it in more details. What year is your car?
@@ElliottBrooks 2005 so i am not sure if its gonna work with mine
@@mikkelmadsen8597 no it needs to be E8X for this particular model
@@ElliottBrooks so is e87 workable
@@mikkelmadsen8597 yeah I would say it has the same interior, right? Best to check with the seller before purchasing if you have any concerns
Hi, you recently asked what we might to see in future episodes. How about spacers? Sizes, front and back, max sizes, brands, pros and cons, prices etc. Cheers.
Cheers for the feedback. I do need to look at wheel alignment, camber, ride height, etc so I will take this on board and see if I can fit it in
Hey I know this video was posted literal years ago but how is the fitment when you look at the unit and facia from the side? I've seen plenty before that look fine from the front but have a noticeable gap between the rest of the dash/console and the screen/facia.
Hey mate, fitment is good from the side besides the very bottom where it extends slightly further than the regular dash. If you click the aliexpress link in my bio - it has a picture where you can see
Oh ok! Thanks for the quick reply! Have you found any solution to that gap?
@icebrandbro4155 no solution unless you wanted to fabricate something yourself. You really cannot notice it unless you get your head down to near where you sit. I don’t really care about the gap because of this
Amazing video! Still waiting for the reverse cam!
Thank you. I moved house and started a new job. Much harder to film! Sorry - I’ll try get it done in the new year
Did you notice that the trim-surround is made for a left-hand drive vehicle?
Not particularly. What makes you say that?
@@ElliottBrooksthe screen is flush on the left and protruding on the right, making it angle and face towards the left of the car, thus made for a left-hand drive car / driver to control.
@11:45
@@AJS82041it’s the exact same size on both sides. So if it was reversed it would have the same issue. It would protrude past on a left hand side too. Probably just oversight in the design process. If you want perfect symmetry with the bmw interior design, I would consider buying a new bmw rather than trying to upgrade with cheap aftermarket parts 😅
Did you end up fitting the reverse cam bro? I was thinking of just buying a number plate light cam and wiring that in.
Not yet man. Still planning to buy I feel it will be a bit of a mission. Have had no spare time lately so haven’t been modding my car too much. Give it a month or two
Mine worked by splicing into the pink or brownish wire in the radio harness, connect red wire from video cable there. Run camera to trunk and just connect red wire end to video camera power cable and find a ground to the black. No need to tap into any reverse light.
Did you get the 6g or 8g?
8g
hey could you show how reverse cam was setup?
Hey - I haven’t set it up yet. I will release another video once I have
Is it still working well now
Yep it’s awesome now. I’ve gotten used to how it all works now.
Steering wheel buttons work. Phone auto connects to CarPlay wirelessly. No complaints at all.
Do it work on a f20 1 serie 2012
No this is for E series cars unfortunately. I’m sure there is an F series version somewhere
Did you ever figure out what those 4 random wires were for?
Yes. Turns out they’re for an outdated radio system or something like that - I think it’s standard convention to include to support old style radios. Fine to ignore!
Is your head unit QT 7 or QT10 ??
I got the QT10. It should have the best response times. It’s not perfect but I wouldn’t want slower
thank you
yes, I got the same I'll be instilling it thanks to your help!!!! I'll let you know how I did.
@@brothersinarmseastlakegreat! Yes make sure you read the comments on how to connect your steering buttons as I figured that out after I did the video
I've done everything I followed your footsteps but the thing is it doesn't stay The unit just pops back out again, I think there might be some grinding and cutting involved. I trimmed down the aircon edges but something else that makes it a very very tight squeeze
This video has me thinking I’m delusional and can do this upgrade haha I know you mentioned in your video about the camera, have you had a chance to install it? My reverse sensors got water damage and I’m really missing them
You can definitely do it yourself. This was one of the easier mods that I have done and think that most people could as well. The hardest part is understanding the tablet itself haha. You’re not the first person to ask about the reverse camera. I’ll have to get around to that shortly
@@raacrouch-wighton99 just have a look at what yours looks like. MT version and AT version visually look very different. Yours either looks the same or doesn’t
@@ElliottBrooks oooooh I see it now, duh!
hey mate, with the audio in are there just loose wires that you plug in? I'm about to do the install myself. Thanks
Hey man, what do you mean by loose wires? I’m pretty sure I show every wire that I connected plus the wire diagram. If you’re unsure outside of that check the aliexpress link in my description for further instructions or contact the seller :)
Hey, I think I got it sorted! Thanks for your quick reply, the one I got is actually just slightly different and doesn't have the red "audio in" male connectors, instead it has something else (a white 8-prong connector wired in to the main harness). Great video, by the way, you definitely helped me bite the bullet and order one :)) Cheers!
@@marshall4049 okay cool. Did you buy from the same link? Do you have a different air con unit? Glad it worked out. These are worthwhile once you get them working!

Yeah shouldn’t be any difference.
Great vid bud, I have PDC and start stop buttons, would they locate in the heated seat “slot” of the frame?
Thanks! Yes, if they are currently in a thin row below your aircon unit, then this fits where I reference the heated seats buttons go. I think that row of buttons is interchangeable across various spec of BMW
