I had this on my 512k IBM Compatible, back when the floppy disks were actually floppy! It looked and sounded just like in the video, except about half the speed. Good times!
Having played this a lot at a local arcade and then getting it for the c64, I must admit I enjoyed it as much as the arcade. The c64 wasn't known for it's great conversions, but this one hit the spot.
The Before Christ mode in the PC Engine CD-ROM2 version is different in many areas compared to the normal mode. Different colors, sprites, etc. It would've been more appropriate to show that mode rather than Normal since Normal is more similar to the HuCard version than BC is. :)
If that plot is accurate and the name of the player mech is Mobilsuit, then the fact that capcom "borrowed" the images of the Zeon Zaku II and the Z'Gok at the minimum is even more ironic as the Zaku II, clearly seen at 2:20, and Z'Gok as seen at 1:29 are both Mobile Suits from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, where for reference all the single pilot mecha in the universe are all called Mobile Suits.
wow i had no idea there were home versions of this game. this is one of my all time favorite arcade games. the only one i've ever beaten on one quarter (not counting dragons lair 2).
And ironically, the Spectrum managed one of the most accurate conversions for the 8-bit computers despite being the weakest hardware. Goes to show how much more important is to have good developers and a better balanced specs, over just hardware power.
Pc engine cd all day with pc engine (tg-16) version and Amiga not far behind, atari st almost as good as amiga version with those still older sounds lol.
changing weapons thru menu kinda sucks, but it's a small price to pay for that awesome music. The Amiga port is kinda bad tho, even the Commodore 64 plays better.
No wonder why the original arcade is the definitive version thanks to its 2 player simultaneous plus instant weapon changes. I do not know why the PC engine version decided to do the pause game to select weapon as it is awkward to use when dealing with hectic enemy situation.
I'm surprised they made a version for the pc engine cd so long ago 99% of the data on the cd was probably used just for the sound compare that to the zx spectrum that could only use 48kb less than 0.01% of what a cd could do yet they where both used around the same time..
seems a shame how in the 1980s they had 64bit Arcade electronic video games and architecture yet took some 20+ years to see similar graphics in consumer devices sold in the shops.. what happend to all those great board designers that were way ahead of their time, what happend to all that technology..?
Sure the PCE CD has that extra mode but I simply don't like the arranged soundtrack, sounds so cheap and cheesy XD. Prefer the chiptunes of the HuCard version.
Sorry. My job has been keeping me busy. I work 12 hours a day & when I get time off I have to spend it Doing my husbandly chores & spending time with my wife. The majority of time that I spend replying to messages are usually done on breaks & the little time I have left before bed. I haven't had any spare time to dedicate to the channel. I'm hoping to get more time soon. So hang on.

I'm sorry. I have a 12 hour a day job & I work 5 to 6 days a week. 0_0 It's impossible to do anything for it given work & home life. I appreciate that you enjoy the videos though. I wish I had more time for it but the majority of time when I reply to comments it's on breaks at work. >_
The MS DOS CGA version is so close to the arcade original, I had to double check which version I was watching. Silky smooth, amazing sound.
🤣
Amstrad version no comments. Amiga version works fine if you are sad and want to cry......
So this is what Micheal Jackson was singing about, the MS Dos version of this game.
My brother and I had side arms on the TurboGrafx 16 and it was a great game. The TurboGrafx 16 is an awesome game system..😀
One of the most underrated systems of all time. I had so many great times on that system.
The Turbo version arguably had better music than the arcade I remember playing the arcade version
and thinking the music was worse than my home port
I had this on my 512k IBM Compatible, back when the floppy disks were actually floppy! It looked and sounded just like in the video, except about half the speed. Good times!
Used to spend hours on this game at local gala traveling fair. My top score was still there when the fair came back a year later !
Classic hard as hell Capcom shoot em' up arcade game.
Wow that pre-Ghouls 'n' Ghosts synth sound!
It's not necessarily because it's older, rather because it's an American version.
Having played this a lot at a local arcade and then getting it for the c64, I must admit I enjoyed it as much as the arcade. The c64 wasn't known for it's great conversions, but this one hit the spot.
Commodore 64, you always bring up my day :)
I love how it just has the high score text before you start it up so it just says "hi"
This is certainly an obscure one. Yet for some reason, I'm not surprised that it got ported to the major 80's home computers.

Glad you noticed 👍 kudos
Goodbye, UA-cam Leyend
wow i had no idea there were home versions of this game. this is one of my all time favorite arcade games. the only one i've ever beaten on one quarter (not counting dragons lair 2).
Reminds me of "1943" with all the similar sound effects
Wow! I didn't think there was this many ports of this game!
The music of this game is so chaotic :D
and when the world needed him most, he disappeared...
TG16 and PC Engine CD are the best versions here. I'm surprised this game was even attempted on systems like the Amstrad and the Spectrum!
And ironically, the Spectrum managed one of the most accurate conversions for the 8-bit computers despite being the weakest hardware. Goes to show how much more important is to have good developers and a better balanced specs, over just hardware power.

Where did you go? There's still so many games you could compare!
One of my favourite arcade games. Unfortunately I had an Amstrad. Would have killed for the Commodore version back in the day!
Why? The C64 version was awful.
I played the c64 version.well done and the best in 8 bits.
@@SirHilaryManfat Anything is better than the Amstrad version! :)
Pc engine cd all day with pc engine (tg-16) version and Amiga not far behind, atari st almost as good as amiga version with those still older sounds lol.
the Amiga port (version) is a lazy remake of the Atari ST port (version)
changing weapons thru menu kinda sucks, but it's a small price to pay for that awesome music. The Amiga port is kinda bad tho, even the Commodore 64 plays better.
And Thus A Legend died.
What is the hidden morse-code message in the DOS-version? SOS?
No wonder why the original arcade is the definitive version thanks to its 2 player simultaneous plus instant weapon changes. I do not know why the PC engine version decided to do the pause game to select weapon as it is awkward to use when dealing with hectic enemy situation.
Agreed. They could've easily set it to the Select button to change weapons in real time.
2 player mode on c64 too simultaneously
Ok, wait... is this not just Forgotten Worlds 5 years earlier?
Lol yup
Section-Z, this, and Forgotten Worlds are like supposed to be a series.
I really miss sidearms for C64 during my childhood? Really?!
Nice video! KUDOS!!
Things I would kill to see and or hear on a Marty or a Sharp.
I'm surprised they made a version for the pc engine cd so long ago 99% of the data on the cd was probably used just for the sound compare that to the zx spectrum that could only use 48kb less than 0.01% of what a cd could do yet they where both used around the same time..
Cyberdyne?
Exactly my thoughts too. Fighting Skynet - Terminator
R.i.p this Channel
Where have you been?
And I always thought Burai FIghter for the NES and Gameboy was a completely original game :)
The Atari ST version scrolled smoothly for the hardware and benefited from mouse support, but Single Player when the C64 was 2 player? :'(
4:06 the CGA graphics gave me a seizure, I cracked my head on my desk and my brains leaked out, now I will haunt the next video 💀💀💀💀
No VGA for this game ?
@@MzuMzu-nx1em Not in 1987. Even EGA was barely taken advantage by game developers yet.
@@1xWertzui thanks
The nec pc engine has versions better than the Arcade, is it me or Std version is more fun and regular Nec version and sound more "original"?
Reminds me of Section Z for NES
Wait, Gaming History Source, This is Not a Mappy Video! But Mappy Video Already in 2012!
DOS-could it be any worse than that? CPC- meh. ZX- adequate for the system. C64- finally some arcade feel to the 8-bitters.
seems a shame how in the 1980s they had 64bit Arcade electronic video games and architecture yet took some 20+ years to see similar graphics in consumer devices sold in the shops.. what happend to all those great board designers that were way ahead of their time, what happend to all that technology..?
Lol, you just needed a PC Engine and off you went in almost arcade quality in your own 80s four walls.
And btw. the arcade board was Z-80 8-Bit based.
I wonder why they put C64 graphics into the Amiga game....
Can you do let's compare (super mario bros 3)
Whens your next upload
The PC engine Cd version music look a like Macross Anime series music. 🤔
That C64 sprite could be better
Sure the PCE CD has that extra mode but I simply don't like the arranged soundtrack, sounds so cheap and cheesy XD. Prefer the chiptunes of the HuCard version.
Compare exitebike next please
@Peck Man really are you sure that is what they are going to do

DOS version is an abomination
this game blows,
Well, that sucks.
Damn, DOS was a shitty platform.
Yet most expensive one here (by far) and only one still in existence!! 🤣😂😩
DOS, Amstrad and Spectrum all sucked ass.
TG16 was my fav port.
The Spectrum Versión is respetable.
Weird title!
i hate version of pc engine for music... i prefer so much original arcane version
