A few answers to common questions regarding this chapter: (Obviously spoilers!) - Why were people so afraid of the victim? -- The victim was identified to be an unwilling traitor, feeding Monokuma information. The two pseudo-killers were terrified (s)he would murder them next to get them out of the way. - Why did the victim even commit suicide? -- This had been his/her intent ever since (s)he had decided to stop snitching to Monokuma. (S)he felt guilty and wanted to meet with the people who were the most afraid or hateful of him/her, explaining (s)he was sorry for everything and that (s)he didn't want them to blame themselves for what was to come. - Why did they hit the victim with the monokuma bottles then? -- Because they were panicking pants-poopers. - Why did someone try to lead the trial to a false conclusion? -- Because that person had been deceived by Monokuma into thinking the victim had killed him/herself because everyone hated him/her. The one disrupting the trial did so because (s)he felt guilty for letting down his/her best friend, and because (s)he (wrongfully) hated the others for forcing the victim's suicide. In truth, the victim cared deeply for the one who tried to mislead the trial, as well as for all the others, and committed suicide out of personal guilt and to make sure her loved ones in the outside world wouldn't be harmed for his/her refusal to keep being a stool pigeon.
@@nder7123 Sakura probably told Monokuma about Alter Ego, which was a big thorn on the Mastermind. To make up for no blackened to execute, Alter Ego was destroyed instead. It may seem lame until you remember that Alter Ego recognizes sense of touch when Makoto put him in his jacket.... So yeah, he totally felt those blows.

I feel so bad for Sakura, and at the same time, I admire her. The majority of the students gave her hell for what she did (even taking two hits to the head with glass bottles). And she STILL cared about them!

This was the most painstaking class trial in the game, they just kept jumping from one person to another, complicating the entire mess, it was pretty simple but the trial was PAINFUL

Sakura's suicide seriously fucked me up. She was my absolutely favorite character in the entire Danganronpa series. She's bad ass, been put through hell and back, been bullied her whole life and still had the kindest heart of all. She had a heart of gold. I never thought I'd be so attached to a character. But that woman really resembles a part of me... Sakura's revenge NEEDS to exist.
For everyone who keeps saying. "Why did alter ego get executed" Or whatever. Well! Here why! Alter ego is basically chihiro and you know chihiro died. But also if I remember correctly alter ego could of given out information on how to escape and you should know monokuma/Junko doesn't want that. Alter ego was also hidden from the others until after mondo's death.
Or it could also have been that its not a student and monokuma had to execute something that is not a student If he would have wanted to get rid of her, junko/monokuma could have just broke it without execution

He knew about alter ego all along and just let them keep for a while since it wasn't hindering him much (probably to give them hope only to crush them with despair next too). Once naegi hooked alter ego up to the schools network, it would most likely give them clues on the mastermind who wasn't having that so monokuma decided to get rid of alter ego before they could get info and to make up for there not being a traditional punishment this time
Also, seeing how they grew pretty attached to Alter Ego, it would have still caused them despair, which was something Monokuma wanted since they seemed so hopeful after the trial. He needed to keep them in check
*SPOILERS FOR DR 1, 2, V3* Out of all the trials across the 3 main games, i think this was the only one where someone tried to get everyone killed out of pure and absolute hatred. Not even Nagito, in all his madness did what he did out of hate, but because ''muh hope''. To see Hina, who is always so caring and empathetic, driven to such actions simply because she could, and not because she had to, is honestly terrifying. If someone like her can be driven to such hatred, then just about anyone can as well.
Ditto. At least Nagito's gambit did have (in its own way) good intentions. The plan may had resulted in the "traitor" getting killed, but the remaining participants managed to shut down Junko's AI and escape. Which then leads to the Future arc anime.
Yeah, and even then Nagito didn’t want EVERYONE to get killed, he only wanted the traitor to survive because the rest of them, even himself were ultimate despairs. Sure it disgusted him, but at least he did it for the sake of hope. Which yeah..isn’t much better but doing something like this for the sake of pure hatred just..says a lot.

However, since the truth was revealed and there was no one to executed (you can't execute an already-dead suicide victim), Alter-Ego was executed instead, since Alter -Ego was never a student and thus didn't fall under Monokoma's bear-times-one rule. It was a good opportunity for Monokuma to get rid of that pesky AI that was spying on him and helping the students find an exit.

No, no, it's much more complex. CHAPTER 4 SPOILERS FOLLOW! Sakura committed suicide because she no longer wanted to be a mole for Monokuma. The Mastermind had leverage over her and blackmailed her into telling Monokuma all the group's secrets, such as their work with Alter-Ego. The only way out for Sakura was to commit suicide, since she no longer wanted to give in to Monokuma's blackmail, but also didn't want her dojo to suffer as a result of not complying. Combined with the shame of betraying the group for so long, suicide was the only way out for her.
Byakuya's shit-eating smirk in the first page while Toko and Hagakure are sweating bullets always make me laugh. On another note: The absence of the "scream"-like sound in melody that plays when Sakura's body is found is surprisingly uneasy at first but when you finish this chapter and realize she's smiling it's kind of bittersweet, it's less of "a heinous murder happened" jingle and more of "a last act of defiance".

Alter ego laptop was destroyed in this scene, but before that he had implanted a virus on the Mastermind network. That virus is what sabotaged Makoto execution that happened later. Spoilers: In the bad ending which happens depending on a certain choice you have to make Alter ego vírus wont be able to save the person that will be executed.
Alter-Ego was never a student and therefore didn't fall under Monokuma's rules - that also meant Monokuma could basically destroy it whenever he wanted, unlike the other students whom he can't touch directly.

this was a fun trial. from the start of the chapter it started to feel like sakura will take her life. and unless a hidden door popped up, the locked room meant sakura mustve killed herself already. yet 3 different people claimed to be the killer as thats what the situation seemed.
it’s strange how Hagakure wasn’t immediately hated and feared of by everyone there, like, he attacked Sakura then pinned it on Toko, and ran, and same w Toko, other than the fact that Toko is already feared a little due to her second personality, also this case was really confusing for me, so much was happening, so many people were involved in her death, etc. at first i thought it was Togami, then Hagakure, then Toko, then Asahina, but it just turned out Sakura killed herself. it was SO confusing.
That's was the whole point, Hina wanted everyone to die because she claimed "we killed her and we don't deserve to live" that was honestly one the most painful parts in the trial. We "killed" Sakura without even noticing it. And we (who played the game) felt guilty when we saw the whole crime again. That's just horrible Sakura deserved so much love and appreciation.

Monokuma felt that connecting Alter Ego to the network was too far so he decided to execute Alter Ego. Cracking the files on the laptop was fine, but connecting to the network was pushing it.

this was a fun trial. from the start of the chapter it started to feel like sakura will take her life. and unless a hidden door popped up, the locked room meant sakura mustve killed herself already. yet 3 different people claimed to be the killer as thats what the situation seemed.
it’s strange how Hagakure wasn’t immediately hated and feared of by everyone there, like, he attacked Sakura then pinned it on Toko, and ran, and same w Toko, other than the fact that Toko is already feared a little due to her second personality, also this case was really confusing for me, so much was happening, so many people were involved in her death, etc. at first i thought it was Togami, then Hagakure, then Toko, then Asahina, but it just turned out Sakura killed herself. it was SO confusing.

That's was the whole point, Hina wanted everyone to die because she claimed "we killed her and we don't deserve to live" that was honestly one the most painful parts in the trial. We "killed" Sakura without even noticing it. And we (who played the game) felt guilty when we saw the whole crime again. That's just horrible Sakura deserved so much love and appreciation.
