About the album bundle:
Commemorating the 25th anniversary of Passion and Warfare comes a special 2CD edition of the album which includes the first-ever release of Vai's Modern Primitive songs and recordings. Based on song sketches and works-in-progress penned, and recorded, by Vai following the release of Flex-Able, the artist's debut album, in January 1984, the music on Modern Primitive has been completed by Steve for release as a full album bonus disc in the Passion and Warfare 25th Anniversary Edition.

I can spend entire days watching this stuff. Please Mr Vai I need more!!
yes more footage!
Took the words right out of my mouth friend, thanks! We NEED more Vai-ness
Exactly! He needs to release a full length video of this entire recording session :) or better yet...every recording session he has done on video! lol
Scott McClure Hey Scott, by the way, Mr. Vai signed my 1990 Universe ;)
Electric Sitar
One of the greatest instrumental albums of all time (period).
it is... have you checked out Modern Primitive?? Super rad. I dig it. "No Pockets" is such a great groove, and "pink and blows over", is odd and amazingly beautiful.. Those are my current favs on that one.
This and Alien Love Secrets
Other than me at the skin flute!!!!
not one of...the greatest.
I put this up there with Liquid Tension 1
Never seen Vai with a bit of beard before.
Check out the videoclip for "For The Love of God". He sports some stubble there as well.
I will, cheers!
its a good look
chocolate milk stains
and so damn exhausted!!
This album will still be played in 2981
absoluttchamp even better: 2990
Even better 1036597
that's steve vai....what a nice little boy!
I hope he finds some friends this year
You’re getting too loud!!!!!
WOWOWOWOWWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOWOWWOWOWOWOWOW
Eh.. Shattap
...He used to cut the grass.
ua-cam.com/video/3Zle40cehlc/v-deo.html
he is 29 here..FML
I know right!!!!! I was about to comment that. 29 years old - pretty much an accomplished artist, married and with a kid. I mean DAAAAAMN!!.
damn, i'm 20 and the hardest thing i can play on guitar is "bohemian rhapsody solo" and "More than a feeling solo", i wish i could play like him, i practice every week.
Practice slow, force yourself to relax while playing, if a note feels hard, change the angle of the finger, or hand until it doesn't feel hard. If it feels hard, u are forcing yourself in a bad habbit. All notes must feel "easy".
and he's also a very good engineer
His greatest album and one of the best rock instrumental albums ever created.
When I first listened to Passion and Warfare it scared and amazed me, i couldn’t believe how creative and interesting it was with things played on guitar that where unconceivable.. I’ll die a fan of this album...
I remember when I bought this on cassette. I was 20. I'm 45 now. it is still one of my favorite albums ever.
I'm 53 and remember getting it on cassette and meeting him on Long Island at the listening party. I still break it out sometime and the record is timeless.
I remember picking this up out of a box of tapes my uncle had in a shed. I picked it out based on the cover. I was 13 then and it changed me. 43 now and still listening.
I got this in CD in 1990. Playing it heavily for over 20 years.. This is VAIs Dark side of the moon. The impact on the guitar players was stellar. How there isn't a VH1 documentary is beyond me.
It’s definitely Vai’s Dark Side of The Moon, a truly incredible piece of work, and since then his records have never disappointed.
Steve is the prove that aliens walk among us
Alien Love Secrets
I still think this is one of the best electric guitar albums ever made.
I was about 11 or 12 when I bought this album and it just flew over my head. I couldn't grasp the complexity and eclectic nature of this brilliant work. Coming off the more conventional satriani, vai was unlike anyone I'd ever heard. Of course, over the years, my appreciation for this has grown in leaps and bounds. Still my fav vai album ever.
thank you for this awesome footage!

FANTASTIC STEVE!!!
Still one of my all time favorite albums! Timeless music. Thank you 🙏 Mr. Vai.
Passion and warfare and flying in a blue dream . There best work imo !
+Ibanezguitars also love vinnie Moore . 80's were great
Passion and Warfare 100% but for Satch it's Crystal Planet for me.
+TheRockstarnumber1 crystal planet was rock but flying was more versatile blues rock funk it had had everything
Just loved the song writing on Crystal Planet. House Full of Bullets is blues rock though bro. You cant get a much bluesier riff than that. And I don't think Flying in a Blue Dream has a ballad on it that quite matches the passion of Love Thing. Love Thing is a stunning song. Plus I'm not slating him for trying but I'm not a fan of his singing so I prefer his Instrumental stuff, Flying is still a class album though but for me it's no better that The Extremist and it's no Crystal Planet JMO.
Flying In A Blue Dream. Wow, I remember it like it was yesterday :)
Still remember the feeling of hearing this album for the first time ! It sounded like magic then and still sounds like magic🎸🌟.
When 'Passion and Warfare' finally dropped in Apartheid South Africa I was an isolated teenage guitarist trying to figure shit out. You could just as well had me be kidnapped by an alien...it was life changing. I could not wrap my head around the mastery of Steve's work and it felt impossible. The most valuable lesson I got from that album was that I needed to sound like me and become a great composer. This album will remain one of the most influential albums in rock instrumental history.
It’s too bad there hasn’t been a documentary released of the making of this album. That album will remain a treasure for years and years to come.
That album was my guiding light when I was a teenager.
Same.
Absolutely. Hearing this record for the first time is a definite spot in my memory where I see there being a clear before:after in terms of my thinking, focus, and perception of “possible.” Where music is concerned, at least.
I’d kill to watch a feature doc on P&W. Clearly, I’m not the only one.
A spiritual record unmatched
This CD is still a pearl in my collection. What a masterpiece!
An absolute masterpiece of an album.
A life changing album, just perfect. Thank you for that Mr. Steve Vai
This cassette tape changed my life !
I still have this on cassette, but nothing to play it on. :)
+Devil Average We have a few tape players still working here along with VHS players
It did for all of us lol. The perfect lead sound. Imagination splattered to Tape. Perfection
thomas g . mine to.
lol cassette here too. The plastic for the tape cover completely covered in scratches, the tape hiss ridiculously noticeable. That's how you knew it was a great album - you wore it out! :)
Steve Vai one of THE most creative and still relevant guitar players today!
Thank you thank you thank you Steve!! 25 years of pure joy!! Blessings
I borrowed this album on cassette (young people, ask your parents about them) from my Sgt during Desert Storm so often that when it was over, he gave it to me. Thank you Kalen and thank you Steve Vai. This album started a love affair with the guitar that has lasted all of these years. A truly gifted and spiritual man who I had the honor to see in Salt Lake City some years ago. Simply Brilliant.
Still blows my mind today.
a true classic that endure the test of time!
and for many years to come.
Nostalgic…..👌🙏🙏🙏
this album is "the dark side of the moon" of the guitars. so creative.
Many would say that “Dark Side Of The Moon” is the Dark Side of The Moon of guitar, but I agree.
One of the best albums ever ❤️
The only time this album isn't playing in my car is when I give Alien Love Secrets a turn!
Gênio 🧞♂️
my precious❤❤
Unbelievable Album....took “The Guitar” to a whole new world/level....
One of my all time favorite albums of all time ever!! Haha
Thanks Steve✌
I love when Steve says this philosophical things !!! =)
Thank you Steve Vai! God bless you, much love and respect.
This video made my day :) God bless you Steve Vai
1 of my fave albums of ALL TIMES!👏👏👏👍😉🎸🎵🎼Thank U Mr. Vai!
Стив Вай супер всегда был есть и будет гитарист высочайшем уровне исполнение профессионально просто огонь от души и сердца. Добра здоровья счастья и уважения тебе Стив и всем твоим близким людям каждый день. 👏👏👏👍👍👍💥💥💥💥💥💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
There better be a 200 hour tape of 80s Steve working in the studio shot for VR... wait a minute.
Play it before bed each night
In the history of the instrument, there has never been a guitar album as good as this. There are a lot of extremely good guitar players but this album is the equivalent of watching Avatar in an Imax theatre. In decades I have heard nothing like it.
Surfing with the alien is good too
@@johnnycage9841 Yes, Mr Satriani is outrageously good and a pioneer of the guitar. Surfing was an amazing album.
Changed my life! 🙏🏽
The thing I love about Steve is that he is so unique, not just in his playing but in his mastery of tone and effects. The complete rock guitarist.
We want more!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Give us more music please!
Never stop!
So beautiful
I have read many comments: ..."changed my life"...(of course mine too)
Changed life of many people, professionals and guitar fans.
Changed the history and concept of guitar, of jazz and rock and roll. Changed the history of music ...for better.
God bless Steve Vai!
Sr. Lo admiro, es un músico excepcional.
inspirador¡¡¡
So blessed to be alive at the same time he is…….. 😊
Imagine that this guy was once Satch' s student...
Yeah, he didn't even know how to string his guitar, so turned up for his first lesson with a guitar and a pack of strings.
Holy shit. Thanks so much for share this..
Thanks Steve!!!
This is what you get when you make music for love not for money. A timeless masterpiece.
So cool scenes ..... 80's & 90's was so much better in all aspects ..... passion&warfare always gonna be one of my top favorites .... so many ideas , phrases and stuff to grasp :-) ....
There's nothing close to the 70's, the peak of human race... but yeah, 80's was great either.
You'll get nothing but agreement from me! 80s 'n 90s, shred guitar was alive and well and radio rock music was pretty glorious. Indie/Slacker Rock lacks in both writing and musicanship (on the whole) ..
The Carpenters, Bread, Yes, Rush, Genesis .. I think the 70s helped to usher in the 80s which in turn inspired the 90s. I don't think we'll ever see this kind of greatness again ..
The Carpenters, Bread, Yes, Rush, Genesis .. I think the 70s helped to usher in the 80s which in turn inspired the 90s. I don't think we'll ever see this kind of greatness again ..
i just want to go into a TIME MACHINE .... and go back to 1988 ..... when the 80's was at the peak and the 90's was going to come ...... BEST TIMES EVER ... i mean from the making of mankind !! It was not just the music .... it was everything in everyday life ......the colours .. ... the clothes ..... the games.... no internet and selfphones ......+++++ many other stuff ... anyway if someone is 35 years old at least can understand what im saying :-)
O cara é um gênio, uma lenda☝️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I used to play this full volume in my bedroom to drown out my annoying neighbors that made too much noise, so I could get my sleep. I used to love sleeping in till whenever! Worked like a charm.
Had passion and warfare since its release one of the greatest albums of all time so underrated it gets a weekly listen to this day
Underrated ?? Really ?
Dear Steve, I have been a fan of your music since your time with Frank and all points in between then and now. Passion is one of my favorite recordings ever. I really think Flexible, Sex and Religion, and Fire Garden are also at the top of that list. I just wanted to say thank so much for your gift and for sharing it with all of us. I am humbled and inspired by you as a guitarist, a composer and most of all, as a human being. Peace & Love Steve. May your internal light shine eternally
christians have bible, guitar players have Passion and Warfare!
I have both
The difference is that the guitar is actually useful for something other than brainwashing gullible people.
altemu that depends on which [guitar] god you praise.
unless guitar is a polytheist religion
I think in that last line of the video Vail basically called himself a God like composer. While being humble about it.
Steve should remaster and rerelease this album. It would do well with all the prog kiddoes these days who listen to stuff like Plini and Chon, but have no idea about the guys who paved the way before them.
Actually what he should do is give a couple of the songs to 3 of the top mix engineers to remix and they should all have to do so while taping it so they could put it on UA-cam.
And then all the subscribers could vote for the best one.
What a genius. This album changed my life.
This album somehow allows access to pure emotion, it essentially enters via a back door in perception and connects with you and allows emotions to exit. So deep and intuitive, and mysterious, even to this day.
MOAR, Steve. Please.
We need more footage of that era.
The only "shredder" I fully like from start to finish, and it still sounds just as fresh today
Love Album and the guitars.
Live this music ,go Steve👍
Best video I have seen on youtube for a long time! love it!
One of the most inspiring musicians ive ever listened to. So glad to be alive while we are graced with his creations. Hope to see him one day
Passion and Warfare was Steve’s lifetime masterpiece! I remember how blown away I was the day I bought it! It was like Frank Zappa on steroids! Incredible solo Album that will never be surpassed. Even Steve himself hasn’t out done it!
Great Mr. Vai
Amazing to see that!!! Thank you. The creation of a pure masterpiece... Pure genius!!
maestro!
The album is a masterpiece
My top favorite instrumental album ever!
That was wonderful. Sublime. Thank you for sharing Steve!
❤❤❤
Those specs are actually back in fashion.
Man, this is gold... We need more!
This album is still F ing epic !!!!!!
o primeiro album que comprei na vida.
Thank you, Mr. Vai, for this amazing album!!!
an incredible album, I remember when it came out & it was a a big influence.
Man, I’ll never forget VAI teaching me that the guitar doesn’t have to sound like a guitar. 💯
Thank you Steve ❤
I absolutely devoured this album when it came out, must have listened to it a hundred times. Absolutely incredible
Thanks for producing the best album in the century!
one of the best album ever !!!!....
Image being Steve´s intern on the greatest album of all time...
Jakob Strand the dude is Pascal Fillet. Interesting interview of him with « guitar xtreme » 😊about his experience on this album (in French)
Ladies and gentlemen. . . my hero.
i want more something like this, its awesome..
This album is the biggest single influence on me as a musician. Thank you Steve.
Thanks Steve. I'm grateful you got this all on tape. And on video. It's gold.
This in essence was what the 'ungodly stupid hours' was all about, when ably described within the pages of the tab book in question. Great to not see any cigarettes or cocaine in sight too.
Clean living, dirty guitar...where appropriate. Clean guitar, designer stubble when needs must. Never listen to the said work in quite the same way again. And believe you me, there's no higher compliment.
wow that was so amazing...thank you for sharing Steve!
One of my favorite albums of all time.
